The Hoss is a great truck. I’ve had mine for 2 1/2 months now (though it doesn’t seem like that long) and I’ve ran it in all kinds of conditions (Hot, sunny days, rainy days, etc) and it’s held up great. I’ve taken it to skateparks, jumped it out of my ditch near my house, hooned it around in dirt, and raced it against my brother’s Slash. It’s taken hard hits for a truck its size (I once accidentally launched it 20+ feet straight up and it came down hard on concrete) with minimal damage (a bent shock shaft, and mildly cracked front left steering & caster blocks). One thing I feel it does lack in is speed. It just doesn’t feel as fast as it should in a lot of situations (though not on the racetrack, where I never went more than half throttle). I was thinking of selling the VXL-3S and getting a 4S esc for it, but after watching this video, I think I’m just going to get the Maxx’s heat sink & fan for it and gear it up, although I may have to give it 1-mil fluid in the center diff if I do. Other upgrades I’m planning to do are putting in the Traxxas Extreme Heavy-Duty Kit, which strengthens a lot of aspects of the truck, including Maxx-duty driveshafts. I’m also going to put the GTR shocks on it, and maybe get the 17mm hex adapter to run the Maxx’s rims (since 17mm is a lot more durable than 12mm). I might also get the LED light kit for running in the dark.
Love how you made full circle with the Hoss! But your setup is beast & completely perfect imo! Congrats on the build an enjoying where the Hoss flourishes!!
No way it pulled the front wheels at 60mph. My 4S Hoss tops out at 56 mph with 18/50 gearing. Edit: And running belted duratrax hatchet tires Edit 2: I take that back. I hit 63+ mph today (Garmin) after replacing the center diff fluid with new 1M. I really had to ease into it up to about 75% throttle. Definitely rips on 4S and 18/50 gearing.
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs really appreciate your video on gen ace 8000 batteries quick question please recommend a charger I can buy to charge multiple brands of batteries, only have traxxas twin charger for now with arrma connectors
@@Tylerrodriguez20This is probably too late, but here goes: If you want to get the best 3s truck on a budget, the Granite is probably the one to go with, since it’s $100 cheaper than the Hoss. However, the Hoss has a 4s-capable, higher torque motor, a center differential with a steel spur (the Granite has a slipper clutch), and clipless body mounting (which is much more convenient than the body clips on the Granite).
I guess u r enjoying hoss more than any other vehicles of urs after that 18T. Btw whats ur opinion m going to buy my first RC should i go for hoss or HPI savage XL flux? I m 38 year guy will do bit of jumps some high speeding and may be will do some torque stuff by changing ratio which one do u recommend budget is from 250 to 650 $
The drivetrain on that sounds so smooth my Hoss brand new out the box has the normal wine but different like it sounded like it was getting tight almost and I found out that the spur gear is out of round I contacted Traxxas told them trucks brand-new they sent me new rear control arms cuz one of those was stripped and the screw was hanging out I got front Castor blocks because those were stripped the spur gear killed the bearings in the motor they wouldn't send me new bearings I called them back and was like yeah the bearings are bad in the motor to cuz it's got side-to-side play in-and-outs normal side-to-side no so I went and bought a new kit so they go so far and then they won't send you anything like this truck out of the box is brand new even the the servo is bad I had to go buy a new servo I bought the metal one so Traxxas is good but they're not great I'm kind of annoyed to be honest
Hey Jason can u do a video Up date on the Losi 5ive b and any future plans u have in mind for it and do u have any most do mods for it I just got one and I’m going to do a exact set up as you have so I was wondering if you ran into any problems
If you get the actual Traxxas heat sink and put a good fan on it that motor won't get that hot that's the same motor that comes in the max the 2400KV so it is 4s capable I went and bought a Traxxas Maxx ESC that I'm putting in my Hoss
Did you change the stock spur gear should be 54 tooth? I just put 17t/54 only thing I change is 17 from the 14 tooth and my motor was smoking it says in manual it can handle 18/54 tooth why not 17/54 I wonder
Yup seems like they do have QC issues. My got a Hoss and on the first day he broke 2 drive shafts. I went and got one as well and broke the lower control arm during my first run. Other than that the Hoss are a beast!!
Guarda, il mio hoss con 17T e 3S dopo una scarica di batteria è molto caldo. Ora giro a 4s con 14T, scalda un po' meno ma è una bestia. Il tutto senza l'ausilio di una ventolina, che a breve monterò

😳😳😳 wheely at 61mph??? THAT'S CRAZY 👍👍👍

Wow! I was not expecting to be impressed by the Hoss, bit I am. This is the best I have ever seen this truck look. Nice when an RC surprises you 👍
I am definitely starting to enjoy the truck now. I would really like to pick up a Granite to compare.
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs Great hoss video comparison between 3s and 4s sir! You prefer which, 3s or 4s on the Hoss?

That's nice collection like your shop not sure if my collection is big or not
I wish you pushed the run a little bit longer I think you could’ve gotten 53-54 out of it for the 3s but the vid is good
Is that the best ESC and motor to put in from Castle? They have so many options
awesome rc and run

It look so small next to XMAXX😀
What’s that wheelie bar wheels??? I really like them
if i were to switch to an 18 tooth pinion do i have to change the spur gear aswell?

The biggest thing I need to do is upgrade to 12s. I am not sure if you wanted the running video but I wasn't having a lot of fun with it.
Great video. One question what charger do you use
The one you see in this video is a Hitec X2 700.
what are the upgrade that you did to the hoss??

Good morning. Is that 18t pinion direct fit on the truck? Or the motor needs adjustment to make room
Where did you get that motor fan?
I hit 58 on 20 tooth with stock motor and esc 3s
What’s your gearing combo? 18t pinion and what’s spur?
Broke 3 driveshafts in 2 charges all stock 3S. ... Seems they have a QC issue or something

What kv is the motor?
Nice run man. Hot day tho eh 😓
That it was. I went out early this morning so it wasn't to bad. But once I got home I spent most of the day indoors.
