    The most often heard reason that i have heard of people being discouraged by cruising is due to the nervous feeling that they get with nothing but ocean all around them. Paranoia takes over and that they will experience panic attacks being all alone on the ocean will ruin the vacation. They feel much more comfortable having pavement under their feet. I respect their feelings.

      One of the worse ways to travel.....driving/riding in a car. You have more of a chance to get into a car accident on your way to/from the airport/cruise terminal than you do getting in a plane/cruise ship accident. If Karen and Joe Blow don't want to go on a cruise, well, that leaves room for someone/people who do.

      No, we did not get to take the Amazon cruise this year and we are booked for a Asia cruise come late Oct that we are still on fence over. W booked a Baltic cruise for 2021 and rebooked the Amazon. Cruising is our only hobby that time and infirmity have not taken from us. I am a published author so I write a great deal on new ideas. We will not cruise again till it is SAFER. As old dogs with a few health problems we must protect ourselves and others. I still spend time daily on cruise info Stay safe! Linda

      The anxiety is only false fear which you see is false once you get on the cruise ship and start interacting with tons of people, and it's a good therapy isn't it? :) Basically everybody minds their business on the whole ship EXCEPT for the buffet watchers.. you're trying to eat and there's this table close by with at least one person who simply cannot quit staring at you eating. UGH!! And when you're trying to eat an ice cream cone properly and you look around slowly you always see this one person staring at you, so you hold off on licking the cone and I just wanna throw the cone at them :)

      @@goldenagex Lmao at the buffet watchers! But the anxiety part was so real. I almost got off of the ship before we left, I was so glad later that afternoon that I didn't! You get into it and start having fun really quickly!!

    I tried to use some of these excuses when my friends tried to convince me to take my first cruise.
    * I don't like sun
    * I don't know how to swim
    * I don't like crowds
    * I hate lying around on beaches
    * etc. etc. etc
    End result: I was convinced to go and I didn't want to get off the ship at the end of the week. One trip and I was hooked

    Great video and subject, Tony. We have seven cruises under our belts and really look forward to the next. About that communication thing, when we were in Bermuda (Celebrity Summit) in 2017, we found out about an emergency back home and staff on the ship were very gracious in allowing us to use their shipboard communications when we told them our cell service had issues. Thanks to Celebrity, everything worked out and we did eventually get cell service back to normal. The good times cruising far outweigh the bad !👍👍👍

    When I cruise and we have a sea day, I find shady spots and lounge in comfort. When in port, I use sunblock as well as on the ship. You are not forced to eat anything you don’t want to eat. Plenty of healthy food to eat. Also, there is a gym on the ship if you like to exercise. We never experienced a cruise ship with any kind of problems at all. We never experienced any kind of crime, always be aware of your surroundings. Never experienced unruly passengers. As far as getting the flu or norovirius on a cruise ship, wash your often and use sanitizer, never had a problem.🌞🚢⚓️

    I'm trying to get a family cruise together and my cousin has what might be a legit objection. He's claustrophobic and concerned about surviving a week in a small cabin. A balcony would help, but the bathroom is still tiny. I suggested a suite, but that's expensive.

    I have an actual valid one...(Having to eat with strangers in MDR)..I have a work around that one though...I board early enough to go to the maitre D's office and request a table for two..(just me and my wife) and since I have late dining I have gotten a table for two every time...Now that doesn't mean there isn't a couple like the next table to us...But It gives me the space I need to enjoy the dinner with my wife and not feel obligated to carry on a conversation with someone whom I really don't know and will have to deal with for 4 or 5 or 7 or even 8 dinners.
    I also am an introvert! Much love to ya Tony! Enjoy your videos!

    The most common reasons that my husband and I hear is that cruising is for "old" people. We are a couple in our early 40s and have been cruising for the last 10 years. That is not a valid reason for us, so we are going on another cruise in 7 days :) .

    Ha! I thought that you were going to say something like:
    15) You don’t like to see places you have never been
    14) You like to stay in one spot for your entire vacation
    13) You don’t like to stay in a 4 or 5 star hotel
    12) You like being served bad food
    11) You don’t like to wake up in a new spot without driving through the night
    10) You like to fight through crows with your luggage everyday to get to the next location
    9) You don’t like excursions that can show you other cultures
    8) You like flight delays which make you miss you connections
    7) You don’t like staterooms that the stewards make towel animals
    6) You like the fasten your seatbelts belt signs during that long flight
    5) You don’t like breathing clean sea air
    4) You like the big guy that takes up more than one seat falling asleep on your shoulder every flight
    3) You don’t like all you can eat
    2) You like the kids asking are we there yet all seven days of your traveling vacation
    1) You don’t like eating high quality food at every meal
    But, hey, I was wrong
    This list came to me the first 30 seconds of your video.

    I'd like to take a different look at communications. Important announcements such as port disembarking instructions, weather warnings and schedule changes are only made in the public areas of the ship. If you are in your cabin you have to open the door and stick your head out to hear them. In the main public areas it is too noisy to hear them. A text copy of all such announcements should be available on the ships cell phone APP. Or there should be a switch in your cabin that you can turn on to hear announcements. I see this issue raised many times on Facebook and no cruise line has taken action on it.

    What I have found talking to folks is you either love cruising or you hate it. There is generally no in between. I happen to love cruising. Stuff happens in everyday life so it stands to reason stuff will happen on cruise ships. If folks are unsure, I recommend they take a sort 3 or 4 day cruise. It will provide an idea of what cruising is like without being stuck on the ship for a longer time is you find you absolutely hate it.

    My only opinion is ships with 6000 people are too big for some ports. A small port can be overwhelmed with ships that size.
    We cruised AK on a ship with 2400 people, just the right size for the ports and cruising fjords.

    I’m surprised a few good reasons not on list.
    - Sickness from being too old or too young. This is especially true since many retired people go cruising. Kids can get sick for any reason. Ship doctors are not very good and they charge a lot for a visit. You likely need to leave and find own way home if the sickness can’t be overcome.
    - Ship authorities can falsely accuse passengers of doing things. This happened in several cases where passengers are identified as doing things and get thrown off.
    - Ship rules are strict like muster drills. If you’re not a rules following type person, it’s not an excuse if you don’t want to go.
    - Nickel and diming. They charge for many more things separately like specialty dining, gratuities, room service, photos. It’s true that there’s enough complimentary items in a cruise, but an increasing amount is separate charge. Then you need to go to cruise port and pay for transfers. It adds up.
    - Lack of Cellular Service is an increasing problem since many have smartphones. Cruise ships really need to solve this problem. Paying extra for wifi is ridiculous for what I think should be complementary.

    We are cruising for the first time in a couple of months, and I am equally looking forward to it and wondering if it will be our sort of holiday. We have never been on a package tour but always travelled solo to some very remote areas where we don't speak the local language and spent time in the desert, mountains or taiga. How are we going to cope with being surrounded by thousands of loud tourists, not having to think for ourselves at any time of the day or night and most likely not being able to interact with local people and culture in the ports we visit (apart from people employed in the tourism industry)? Oh, well. I will go with an open mind 🙈😄

    Weird things will happen no matter where or how you travel. I take a lot of road trips and have had many odd things happen. I almost ran over a tortoise in the road in New York. I saw a billboard explode from a lightning strike in Oklahoma. I got stuck in a 4-hour traffic delay in New Mexico because of an overturned manure truck. I saw a dead horse in a ditch in Utah. I will still take road trips as I find the driving therapeutic and the journey as exciting as the destination. I am taking my first cruise next year and can't wait. Almost all of the stuff on that list can happen anywhere. Avoiding them would mean never leaving the house and that's ridiculous.

    I plan on sailing on the QM2 across the Atlantic in 2021. For me, some of these "risks" you mentioned are half the allure of a transatlantic crossing. Call me crazy, but I love risks and danger. I also agree with you that, while a possibility that should be considered, the odds of being incolved in a major disaster at sea are worse than your odds of winning the Powerball.

  • @smithwayne2866
    @smithwayne2866 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Tony just had to comment on this. You can't make decisions about what could happen. And when they do, it is surprising how resilient people are. Also modern ships and crews are multiple times better than say they were 20 or more years ago. Having experienced almost everything on this list can offer the following
    A) Along time ago, hitting a container ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The moment of the jolt when the bows hit and we stopped (not drifted) was frightening, but once the container ship disappeared on the horizon (it never stopped), most people just carried on as if nothing happened (it was a very surreal experience). Though each port stop and seeing the 4 foot dent in the bow did affect some people.
    B) Storms - which are not really on your list, do affect people. The worst one was not the storm itself, it took out part of the electrical system on a top deck - locking the doors to the outer decks to open position. Causing for over 12 hours water and rain to fill the bar/ lounge areas. Mentally being on a ship with the bar area under a few inches of water is tough. Quite a few people got off at next stop to fly home.
    C) Most unpleasant - 6 days (34 day cruise) of waking up and opening the cabin door to the smell of vomit filled pillows, towels and sheets in the corridors. The Laundry giving up after 3 days. Mainly because you started to feel tomorrow was just going to be the same as today.
    But people who cruise, shift mentally into another world when cruising and leave yesterday behind. Even if that yesterday was on a cruise ship having a bad day. People who enjoy cruising, just have the right attitude. Looking forward to a cruise is looking forward to all the goods things you can experience. You live for tomorrow (not worry about avoiding it)

    On my first cruise, on the MSC Divina there was an issue with bedbugs. Not in the main bed, but in the sofa/guest bed. We told our butler, and when we came back in 2 hours, the bedbugs were just gone. I don't know if he replaced the sofa, or what happened, but not a single bedbug after we reported it. Although the bedbugs weren't in my bed, I don't think the experience dissuaded any of us ion our cabin from cruising again.

    I think those 15 reasons are a bit flimsy at best. I think the number one reason not to get on a cruise ship is if you haven't passed kindergarten and don't know how to form a line in order to get your food from the buffet and you like the cut in line please don't go on a cruise.

    Well, I was a little timid to cruise for the first time as I heard of all kinds of ships (not just cruise ships) having issues and sometimes sinking. We saw a documentary of the Oasis of the Seas and decided to give it a try. Our curiosity got the better of us. Ok, so after we go on the cruise, I decided I didn't like cruising due to my husband's behavior. He would hardly talk. Then, if I found a lady to chat with about whatever because I needed to talk to someone, he seemed to get grumpy that I talked to someone. I don't know, perhaps he was just in a grumpy place in life at the time. We didn't cruise for a bit of years after that because I didn't want to be in a place where I could talk to anyone. We took a few land holidays where I could just leave him at the B & B and go for a walk and talk with whomever I might meet. We have both changed. He is a little more talkative. I really don't care if I spend time secluded in the cabin on a sea day not having a conversation with anyone!

    I respect everyone that does not like cruising but just saying some stupid and untrue "reasons" trying to fool other people. Everyone should go on holidy how he wants and just live their lives how they want it. Its our freedom in the modern world to be free. Never let someone else ruin your passion.

    Oh what you said I never thought of before I went on a cruise. But it really never happened to us. So we decided instead of going to a resort we try out a cruise, we both grew up fishing use in a rowboat so give it a try we loved it! Especially my husband he has us going on cruises up to 2020 and is now thinking about 2021. And whenever we can we talk to other people to give it a try. Well thanks Tony you have great videos out there that always keeps me thinking I should say us thinking and we love watching them especially when your theme music comes on. LOL tell #TeamJennyHiFromUsAndHiToYouTakeCare!! 😊👍🏼💖🛳⚓️🌺🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️

    From 2013 to 2016 I went on 6 cruises. After each one the same guy at work would ask me how the cruise went. Each time I would tell him how much I enjoyed it. Each time he would then say he will never go on a cruise for one or more reasons. Each time I walked away without telling him I could not give a ff what he thought about cruising...

    I don't think there is any reason to never go on a cruise. I think there are reasons not to go on a cruise but I would never say never. The one reason I don't like cruises is I like to have a bit more control over my itinerary and generally like to spend several days in one place than have to come and go on someone else's schedule. Then again, if I do that I only see one or two places in a general vicinity. Everything is a tradeoff. There's a time and a place for everything.

    I love your cruise videos so much, BUT I am one of those people who would NEVER go on a cruise. The main reasons are the " Food" yuk, garbage , Unless you pay $$$ for fancy dining ( which I do not like) Then would would be the PEOPLE...Everywhere, looking for that dream cruise trip... And finally the most annoying thing is theres seems to be a " Time Schedule" for EVERYTHING. Gotta be here by blah blah blah, gotta get back to be there at blah blah blah, then gotta be back and get ready to be at blah blah blah... I fly to Aruba, Sit on my Secluded beach and watch the cruise ships go by. Please dont hate me folks ;o)

    on a serious note the too much sun can actually be a serious situation (i am taking a cruise shortly) but i do have minor melonoma and am legit alergic to the sun, with that knoledge i come prepared with spf 100 sunblokc a sun hat and plent of well covered clothing. but the too much sun can be a legit issue....myself for instance without proper attire and sunscreen 30 minute in direct sun and i turn into a boiled lobster

    This was obviously pre COVID, but that is well taken care of now by the great cruise lines! Besides that, our parents try to guilt us into not cruising because they say they can't reach us in case of an emergency. It doesn't matter how many ways we tell them that they actually CAN reach us it's always their same story. We always buy unlimited internet so they can email and WhatsApp. Also they can call the ship directly and they would quickly find us. Sometimes an old video of yours still has a lot to offer!

    The only people who should not cruise are those who can't be arsed to get off the ship to experience the joy of travel and contribute to the local communities. Sit on a ship by all means in your own country preferably without the ship moving. Then you aren't increasing your carbon footprint, polluting the seas and running over wildlife. You can then all gorge on the local buffet and swill in the pool filled with people juice to your heart's content. To everyone else -- experience different cruise lines, go to new places, have an absolute blast and be grateful that you can.

    So when it comes to communication, if it’s an emergency they will make it happen. When we are being disembarked in Saint Thomas carnival ate the cost of my calling back to the doctor at home to get my dad‘s insurance information because my dad lost his insurance card somewhere on the cruise. They called down to medical to confirm my story and then patched my call through to my family doctor in central Florida.

    #1 live in a small town and never meet anyone new (we personally love meeting ppl and made some friends last cruise and are going to their wedding in November last cruise)
    #2 motion sickness? you’re on a boat...most don’t list but we love the rocking if it even happens...most cruises we’ve been on don’t.
    #3 Sun? We stay on the Lido lol
    #4 Food? Don’t eat the mayonnaise sitting in the sun lol
    #5 meh food...you are going to probably gain some weight
    #6 collisions!?!????!!!! I got nothing...you won’t be between the dock and a ship(hopefully?)
    #7 bedbugs? I don’t live in NYC
    #8 crime? never seen it on a cruise. Seen and met plenty of ppl on the cruise that are marks that are totally safe
    # 9 stuck? Whatevs... you get cool reimbursement for that but minimal discomfort
    #10 non issue
    #11 most 3rd parties will lose their ability to book excursions if they can’t make the port again. Several of those we have used are super reliable
    #12 cruise ship excursions are more expensive but yeah they will hold the ship. Never had a problem with 3rd parties
    #13 stop using the internet? You are on a freaking cruise + vacation! Why don’t you want to disconnect?!??!
    #14 dangerous passengers? Puhlease. Paid$2000 to get arrested? I think not.
    #15 Norovirus? Whatevs.

    Had the capt of the Titanic heeded the warnings he was given, that whole disaster could have been avoided. I was on a cruise recently and stopped in Aruba. I was on a small ship. However, at least 4 huge ships were also disgorging 1000s of passengers. It was really crowded around the port. I've also been on one of the ships with the outbreak. I did not get sick. It was still a PITA. Still, I love cruising and don't plan to stop in this lifetime.

    i think the number one reason people don't cruise, is because of "fear" being on the water for several days, and they feel they can't get off. this is the reason why people say they don't want to cruise, They are just fearful of being on water, just say that these reasons are really not true. I will keep cruising, it is my best way to vacation and relax, keep up the videos i enjoy !!!!!!

    Great video! Some of these things are just bizarre some are obnoxious. Seasickness that can't be alleviated is a good reason not to go. Most of the others are everyday risks encountered all the time. Sounds like the article author was just stirring the pot. As you say, being in a car us more dangerous!
