I'd just get a Nordland ODR-C. That is the boutique take on the vintage ODR1 from the original creator. High-end components, extra mid knob, bass cut and a drive compression control. Hand-built by the man himself.
@helloitsmeAG have you played this noble screamer yet? I dig the nordland but I'm always looking for something new. Does this keeley have the feel of the original
@@helloitsmeAG How so? And even if that's true, having the ability to dial in the amount of bass and mids and the amount of compression, is sure handy.
I sold my Klon for $325. I paid $289. Nordland makes an ODR-C by the same engineer of the Nobels and it does the TS thing because it has a mid knob. And it makes less noise.
You are absolutely correct that the vintage nobels sound different from one another. I have a vintage one that sounds killer. I decided to spend way too much on Reverb for another one, because I wanted a backup. It sounded nothing like my other one. There was a weird overtone.
I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. It has to be matched by ear, not just knobs. It sounded absolutely identical. At first, I had seen the video with Tom where for some reason the noble screamer sounded grainy and fuzzy, and sadly I didn’t like it. But this one sounds identical to the original when you were ABing. So I’m impressed now. Great and thorough video as always
Buk plays 50 thousand noballs pedals before he finds the one he likes. Maybe he finds the ones out of spec. His ears are dialed in to the nobles sound 100%.
Thanks for the great review Corey! It's so cool to see the Loop Switcher in action. Craighton Hale came up with that to help us get around the less-than-ideal buffer in those old units. Ain't Aaron Pierce the best for dialing in sounds?!?! Not only did we have many of the great 'ears' in Nashville such as yourself listen to the NS during development, but we made heavy use of the APx515B Audio Analyzer to make sure we had the tone and feel right at every stage in the device, in areas you normally can't drop in and listen to... Another great point you made about the older orginials, sometimes they might have component values that are off or swapped, so buying one could be a little bit of a gamble, although they can all be corrected.
The more gain you add the more they sound alike imo. That being said I own the new version of the ODR-1 and it’s good enough to me, in fact my favorite drive along with the blues driver.
Yes I have 4 original Nobels and they all are a bit different. I never use mine for lots of gain but just to add a bit of crunch and hit the front of the amp harder. There’s a thing about the touch sensitivity that is great. And it sounds great with a KOT stacked on top. I did have a chance to AB with the Keely today and I have to say it’s really close and much closer than the Nordland. Best I’ve heard. If you don’t already have an old ODR-1 save the money as the Keely sounded really good. And I also love the Wampler Belle but for different reasons.
The Noble Screamer is awesome. Does the ODR thing as well or better than any of the boutique copies. Running it with the ODR overdrive circuit snd Tubescreamer tone stack is a game changer.
Always preferred the sd1 to any screamer. The noble was showing up everywhere so I bought one. Nope , the boss SD1 still beats it. I don’t know why it’s so underrated, maybe because it’s cheap, but the sd1 is the king.
Because no one whose “cool” or “hip” is pushing it. I agree with you and honestly see very little reason to not have 3 or 4 boss pedals on a board and call it a day.
Ssssshhhhhhhh don’t freaking tell anybody about how cool those old Dano pedals actually were… I’m not paying 800 bucks for pedals that went for 30 new 😂

Using the switcher was a brilliant move to compare the two but why not go a step further and run a loop of your playing using the switcher to eliminate any differences in your playing?
Great video! Speaking of Bukovac and the Nobles. He did a video a good long while back, now, where he kinda landed on the Nobles Mini in comparing different Nobles, if I remember correctly. I'm playing my Jr. with a single Reilander P90 more and more than my SSS Strat and LP lately. I think it's the perfect Pup for a wide range of music. Especially if you work the tone and jump from fingers to pick you can get tele tones to LP grit.
