    I'd just get a Nordland ODR-C. That is the boutique take on the vintage ODR1 from the original creator. High-end components, extra mid knob, bass cut and a drive compression control. Hand-built by the man himself.

    I sold my Klon for $325.
    I paid $289.
    Nordland makes an ODR-C by the same engineer of the Nobels and it does the TS thing because it has a mid knob. And it makes less noise.

    You are absolutely correct that the vintage nobels sound different from one another. I have a vintage one that sounds killer. I decided to spend way too much on Reverb for another one, because I wanted a backup. It sounded nothing like my other one. There was a weird overtone.

    I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. It has to be matched by ear, not just knobs. It sounded absolutely identical. At first, I had seen the video with Tom where for some reason the noble screamer sounded grainy and fuzzy, and sadly I didn’t like it. But this one sounds identical to the original when you were ABing. So I’m impressed now. Great and thorough video as always

  • @RobertKeeleyTV
    @RobertKeeleyTV ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Thanks for the great review Corey! It's so cool to see the Loop Switcher in action. Craighton Hale came up with that to help us get around the less-than-ideal buffer in those old units. Ain't Aaron Pierce the best for dialing in sounds?!?! Not only did we have many of the great 'ears' in Nashville such as yourself listen to the NS during development, but we made heavy use of the APx515B Audio Analyzer to make sure we had the tone and feel right at every stage in the device, in areas you normally can't drop in and listen to... Another great point you made about the older orginials, sometimes they might have component values that are off or swapped, so buying one could be a little bit of a gamble, although they can all be corrected.

  • @chrisleuzinger5477
    @chrisleuzinger5477 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yes I have 4 original Nobels and they all are a bit different. I never use mine for lots of gain but just to add a bit of crunch and hit the front of the amp harder. There’s a thing about the touch sensitivity that is great. And it sounds great with a KOT stacked on top. I did have a chance to AB with the Keely today and I have to say it’s really close and much closer than the Nordland. Best I’ve heard. If you don’t already have an old ODR-1 save the money as the Keely sounded really good. And I also love the Wampler Belle but for different reasons.

    Speaking of Bukovac and the Nobles. He did a video a good long while back, now, where he kinda landed on the Nobles Mini in comparing different Nobles, if I remember correctly. In the process he talked about, exactly, the feel. The feel is there in the original, the Mini and the Screamer iteration. No one, not even a Bukovac can sense any sort of difference. If you own (or can still afford) an original and can have it rehoused with a better switch, etc. - That's the way to go. And even though players are touting these new, improved, "better" pedals, there's a reason the originals remain on their boards.

I really like Keeley effects but I'd rather see people buy tons of Halo delays than noble screamers. The price of the original Nobels is so (SO) ridiculous.
    You buy 3 or 4 Vemuram that put Nobels in a slipper! 😂

    Nobles pedal look like they should be $50 pedals and have like $10 worth of parts. Looks like a joyo or Behringer plastic job.
    Leave it to drama club guitar players to hype up something so much that they’d pay $2k - logic circuit not included. Get a soldering iron and build your own for $50 including the iron. Then make a klon and a king of tone and you just saved all kinds of money.

    There isn’t anything special about the odr-1, it’s literally just a dark flat sounding overdrive, Lots of modded tubescreamers and timmies blues breaker clones can do that

      Actually, the tone control is unlike either of those pedals. So are the diodes!

    The Nobles still has that little something special to it. But at this point, the Keeley is the way to go.

      Agreed. Like those comparos of the UAX Dream 65 vs a real vintage Deluxe Reverb amp. The amp has some special quality that the Dream 65 doesn't, but the pedal is very, very good.

    Funny how guitar guys are religious about pedals. They are *all* a bunch of 0.01$ simple parts. A bit more mid, more bass, etc.
    Look into "where tone come from" serie on youtube to see the insanity of it.
