Arena doesnt randomly pair you. It bases your pairings on your deck score. Thats why you didnt see mono red. Not because its gone from being everywhere.
That Red Black deck game two was probably hoping to draw the fling creature to flip the bone guy and do like 16 damage to face, old deck pre rotation with less toys now Also the fabled passage stuff about deck thinning really only works in theory if you're only running basic lands, see only 3 or whatever when you fetch makes you think the odds are stacked against drawing another but it doesnt show you the 12 non basic lands you still have in your deck.
it doesn't matter what kind of lands you're running, you're still searching for a single land out of your 22-23 leftover lands in the deck, so you "thin" the deck but it's a very small persentage. CGB was joking, that no matter how many lands you draw from your deck with ramp and passages, if the shuffler wants to screw you, you'd still draw nothing but lands anyway
The second opponent was waiting for a fling effect to hit you with the bonebrute, then throw it at your face and leverage the death trigger.
