I've been dreaming of going to Antarctica for the past 6 years thinking I must spend at least 15k... This makes it seem so much more realistic than it ever has been, thank you!
I'm going in March. I booked 15 months in advance and got a shared cabin to keep costs low(er). I also added several days in Argentina, Uruguay and Chile on the way down and my total for the entire 3 weeks will be around $15k. Another cost not mentioned in the video is gear. Not everybody has the kind of cold weather gear needed for this trip so you either have to rent or buy it. Because of covid, my cruise company consolidated ships and I got bumped to an itinerary that's 2 days longer and goes deeper into the Antarctic circle. On top of that, I got a free upgrade to a suite that would have cost $25k if I had booked it originally. In the end, I know it will be worth every penny.
@@christianrichardson8956 Because of covid, my trip from last year was rescheduled for this year so I just got off the ship 2 days ago. It was absolutely incredible! Antarctica is unlike anywhere else in the world. I had a great time!!
@@gordongraham7 that’s so cool! Im going on a cruise to the Bahamas in may, I definitely wanna save up for Antarctica though, looks very neat? You run into any Leopard Seals? How’s the wildlife out there, they bothered by humans at all? Do they bother you?
@@christianrichardson8956 we saw several leopard seals. Though I didn't see it, several saw two leopard seals hunt and catch penguins, including a dive team who saw the whole thing from underwater. The wildlife was great, but I would recommend not going in March. By now, a lot of the penguins were already out at sea so we didn't see as many as I expected. Penguins weren't bothered by us at all. Some of the fur seals would get a bit upset if you got too close, but most of the other seals didn't care at all. Lots of birds. We saw over 200 fin whales and many humpbacks. We also saw several orca pods, including one that was hunting penguins and another pod that was only a few feet away from our zodiac. It's definitely worth saving up to go!
Hello Linda, You are right, cost to go Antártica are huge any way, but there is an opción maybe you don,t know yet. There is a possibility, to fly from Punta Arenas, Chile to the Antártica península avoing the Drake pass ( often very shaking and anoid) . There you pick for about 5 days on a little ship, ( very convinian ), to the most interesting part of Antártica shore. Finally You take the fly an return to P. Arenas. All about from around US 5000. More information you can find at the net. Sorry about My English..!!
I don't know how I came to your channel, but your presentation is really distinct and special. It's a Shame that the channel didn't boom like it should.
New subscriber. I love your video list. I’ll find time to watch them all. I recently became financially independent and plan to travel the world as much as I can. 😍
Life by Linda I’m grateful for the reply 😊😊😊 excited actually... have been on 7 trips so far. Looking forward to an Europe tour this year and some Asian countries after the outbreak
First appreciate for share info. And like for video bcoz u r hardcore traveler, it touch when you said about your house. Wish you Happy traveling for yr next adventure.
Hello, I want to ask is the OCT's lasted tichet cheaper than MAR's lasted ticket? I want to wait the ticket in Ushuaia but scheduling whict month to travel. please give me some advise THX
No stupid questions :) I think based on the nature of the tours and them being more expeditions, I'd say that's probably accurate. Although I don't really know fore sure... I like the idea of being expeditioners instead of tourists though, makes it sounds more adventures and filled with learning and stuff :)
Hi Linda! Thank you so much for sharing these videos about Argentina and the Antártica, they are fantastic, very well done! I have one question for you… from all the wonderful places in the world, why Argentina? I’m very curious to know, why people from other parts of the world decided to come to Argentina
The link for the company I booked with is in the description. Get in touch with them and they will send you the notifications. In the end the tour provider I went with was cheeseman's ecology safaris. Hope that helps :)
I believe there are a couple of bases where you can work, but I think it's usually for 4 month terms or so. I'd have to look into it more but, not going to lie, I've thought about it haha
We booked our tickets to Ushuaia in January but what are our chances of getting on a cruise for a discounted rate? How days in Ushuaia do we need to be there to find a boat? (We already booked her airfare back also)
I would say from my experience there are good chances since there are usually a few options coming up each week. The more flexible you are the better obviously. However, I am not sure how covid-19 might have affected the amount of ships sailing/ tours operating. I would recommend getting in touch with the con pool any I used maybe a month or two in advance and stay on top of the offers and what's available. Hope that helps, and enjoy your trip!
Hello Linda thanks for your tips. As mentioned it’s a costly trip. I have chosen to book 2 yrs in advance to help with cost. One thing I just learned about within past 3 wks as I recently made a deposit for my booking was travel insurance. I was told it’s mandatory, I was interested in hearing from you if this was an associated cost you dealt with given your trip was last minute

A couple I knew went to Antarctica and loved it. You were so blessed to get there. Good video advice. Have fun and success always.

Very nice and useful information.. really worth to see
Selling your house is such a hard decision to make, i have a lot of respect for you for doing that
Great tips on making Antartica a more realistic destination!!
Yes! It's still a once in a lifetime thing, but absolutely worth it!
this is extremely helpful, thank you!
I booked my trip but they are asking me to get travel insurance, it's a requirement why?

I found cheap cruises BUT flights were prohibitively expensive - some were $45k
Namaste from Kolkata 🙏 India ☺️. Are all tourists to Antarctica called Expeditioners? Stupid question. Sorry

I guess you also have to include the costs for your special clothing, boots etc. you will need in Antarctica. What's the budget for this?
6:35 holy crap 🤕.
"and thats what she said" lmao

There must be a cheaper way I'm willing to go on the most decrepit ship.
