I feel you on wanting to join all the readathons! I just discovered you through Shelly's video! I'm Mexican but have been living in the US since I was 11 and I was so excited about this list being centered on Mexican historical fiction. Love finding more Mexican books/authors. I'm definitely adding a bunch of these to my tbr! I will definitely at least get to Cartucho this month because (1) I'm from the north and (2) my birthday is November 20 and my family likes to say my twin sister and I were revolutionary babies lol. I'm so looking forward to hearing if you're able to suppress your discomfort with the problematic things in The Heart of Jade and finish it this time!

Yay! I’m glad you found my channel! Let me know what you think of Cartucho! I’m very interested in that one. ❤️ I’m glad to meet a fellow Mexican Booktube fan 🤓

There's a reissue of News from the Empire I really can't wait for.
Also Yuri Herrera's Season of the Swamp, an imagined story about the 18 months Benito Juárez spent in New Orleans.

"Pedro Paramo" is one of Emma's (from *Emmie Reads*) favourite Latin American novels. We had to read "Los de abajo" in uni, which is what I'm more familiar with.🧡

I've also never read Los de abajo jaja... I need to fill many holes in my Mexican lit reading

I read Como agua para chocolate a couple of years ago. It was OK, but I liked Esquivel's Malinche better, though it's been a very long time since I read that. When I took Spanish at uni we read Los de abajo by Mariano Azuela.

Haha I also haven't read Los de abajo! I need to read all those Mexican lit classics that my school-self always avoided
