James, my daughter got an invitation to join the Victorian State Children’s Choir and the Australian Children’s Choir in the same week. She told me to tell them she was busy at school and I was a bit disappointed but it was always her choice. She already belonged to The Australian Broadway Chorus world touring group in Triple Threat. She wouldn’t go with them either. She did perform with them in Australia. She was such a serious soul who always put school first. I wish she had taught the others to be like her. If I had been asked as child to sing and travel I would have gone but I can’t sing. Your daughter was lucky to have that experience.

@@karenstrong8887 Ur daughter sounds like an extremely mature young lady. I coach/mentor kids between the ages of 12-18 for their national umpiring badges in my association on the NSW Centy Coast. I tell each & everyone of them that joins my program that
#1 school is most important & always comes first
      #2 work always comes next
      #3 umpiring comes last.
Umpiring will always be around & there's no set age limit to get ur national badge, whether ur 12 or 112 years old, school won't be & work is important for social skills but also for a little bit of money. They always think they let me down when they ring me to say they are unavailable at a certain time & apologise profusely, i never allow them to apologise, it's just netball, a social fun comp every Saturday (altho some teams play like they are playing for Straya 🙄). In saying that, the advice i give the kids in year 10, year 11 & year 12 with their HSC studies is that they just can't study 24/7, they need an outlet otherwise the stress will become to enormous on their little shoulders. Ur daughters outlet for singing is perfect as she has something else to concentrate on at that time & not worrying about missing out on studying

Yeah . My dad took me on a once in a lifetime trip to Rome 🏟⚔️🍝 , having stayed with him for most of my holiday in Norway and Sweden ( with his side of the family ) before heading back to Sydney🇦🇺 . I'm sure we're 💯% in agreement that the late great Peter Allen ( who was the songwriter for this song ) was an excellent songwriter . IF every country on earth had their national anthem ( this isn't officially Australia's national anthem sadly by the way ) written by somebody as talented in songwriting as him - then we'd ALL emphasise with each-other's culture and people . Second best option for Australia to get a new anthem with this feeling when it becomes a Republic is it written by singer songwriter John Farnham . ♑️✍️

I think it pulls us all together regardless of our origins, and is the true source of our "Aussie Spirit." In 1993, the International Year of the World's Indigenous People, I attended an International Midwives Conference in Adelaide. Two aboriginal women travelled from near the Alice to share with the females at the conference some of their women's business relating to birth. It was one of the most empowering moments of my life. I still feel tearful and honoured that they shared part of their story with us as midwives.

The first time I heard this living here in the US (I'm from Sydney) it really choked me up. I miss Australia a lot but I'm here in California now. I met my now wife way back in 2002, online. We remained friends for 10 years and I visited the US in 2012. We really clicked not long after meeting and fell in love and got married. As of today the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is 101 years old making it the second oldest Air Force in the world after the Royal Air Force (RAF). So today holds a lot of significance for The Australian aviation community. It was nice to see some snippets of that history in this video as Qantas has many historical links with the RAAF. I’m an Aussie and I always tear up when I hear this song. I have just finished my last trip around Australia I’m 70 so for my birthday I did the only part I hadn’t seen. My sister and I drove, the only way to go in my opinion, did the trip from Sydney to Rockhampton, then across to Darwin. So much to see and explore. Check out our beautiful country before going OS. So now I have to decide what to do about my next birthday. Done Aussie where next 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve been watching a series of videos from a lovely American couple called the One Pack Wanderers. They’ve driven right around Australia over about 4 months. Magnificent videos and they’ve done it with such flair and so genuine. They posted the last video just this weekend at the end of the trip - 13,000 miles. Finished with a quote from the famous poem by Dorethea Mackellar - a Sunburnt Country. “
    I love a sunburnt country,
    A land of sweeping plains,
    Of ragged mountain ranges,
    Of droughts and flooding rains.
    I love her far horizons,
    I love her jewel-sea,
    Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!

Gidday Ian. I still get emotional when I hear that song, it never gets old.
I have flown overseas with QANTAS three times. First, to Papua New Guinea as a child, the last two times was to the USA and my connecting flights were with American Airlines. QANTAS outshines AA by a long shot. Aussie crews are very nice and helpful, the American crews were impolite and standoffish.
I have fond memories of conversations with customs officers at LAX. Very nice and professional people.

It's really hard not to get a lump in my throat when I hear this song but I think anyone can relate to it no matter what part of the world they grew up. It's more about home is where the heart is and the sentimentality of the song that pulls at the heartstrings.

You really have to react to "I am Australian" by Judith Durham and The Seekers now... There's barely an Aussie around who doesn't connect and resonate with it. I'm a proud Aussie of indigenous and Scottish/Irish blood... the latter arriving in the late 1840s. When anyone sets foot on this sacred land they don't just arrive... they belong to it... it takes a piece of everyone... and everyone takes a piece with them should they ever leave. This is a deeply spiritual land.... and you'll feel it coursing through your veins from your first breath of eucalyptus filled Southern air.

@Google are International criminals - Not entirely true... Adelaide was never a penal colony... Only free settlers arrived in Adelaide... Former convicts were relocated to Adelaide after serving their sentences and allowed to be free settlers though... Same with Perth and I believe Brisbane too... Only Sydney and Melbourne were penal colonies.

You will not regret experiencing this amazing song, composed by Bruce Woodley, the lead male singer in the group. It is sung to perfection by this enduring and iconic Australian group.
Sadly Judith Durham, the female vocalist, passed away last year.

What a beautiful reaction Ian😊 your reaction is exactly how us Aussies feel about our beautiful country. Gets you right in the feels. Thank you for sharins this EPIC video. I have lived in Western Australia for the past 35 years.
The words of that song are so powerful.
The Australian community shows a fantastic "spirit of community" especially when times are hard for people. Whether it be flood, drought, or bushfire, Australians will rally to help those who have been affected.
Another thing I can comment on is a fundraising weekend full of entertainment variety. It's know as TELETHON, and primarily, it raises funds for the TELETHON INSTITUTE in Perth, Western Australia. They research childhood illness and find cures.
I have seen over the 35 years I've been here in WA, the money they raise annually, go from $20,000 + to last year, in 2022, the final total was $71,000.
They do a tremendous job raising this money. As soon as one weekend finishes, they are already working on the following year.

I'm Aussie, my wife is American. We met on TH-cam of all places!
She loves her new home but always misses the States - which is understandable.
Just after COVID, QANTAS put out an ad. It was very emotional. About folks going to their friends and families abroad.
QANTAS is our national carrier and can be useless most of the time - but - it's very hard, as an Australian, not to tear up when I see that tail of the aircraft with it's kangaroo insignia. It means home.

I was born in Australia of immigrant parents and only really felt the pull of home when I lived in the UK for six months. I acutely missed the land itself. The smells, sights, sounds and feel of the land itself. The sounds of the bush, the cicadas, the big noisy birds, the freaky insects, the intensity of the sun on my skin which one just doesn’t feel in the UK. Flying home I remember waiting for the moment I could lift the window shield on the plane and see land. Flying over the rugged landscape of the central desert at dawn was truly a sight for sore eyes. I think if I lived anywhere else in the world again I will always call Australia home.

This would have to be at the top of my list as far as a commercial for a company can go. If you don't choke or hold back the tears, you aren't a true blue Aussie. It epitomises how much Australians miss this wonderful country once they leave... it's unforgettable ! Qantas Airline has been a part of Australia since the beginning. If ever there was a song to pull at the heart strings, this is it. This isn't just an advertisement, it's the word's on every Australians lips who have had the privilege of being born here, lived here for whatever reason and are proud to call Australia their Home ! ❤🇦🇺

This song by Peter Allen is ages old as is Qantas using it in it's ads. It was first used by Qantas all the way back in the late 90's and it was just as epic. This is tough to listen to if you're away from Australia because Australia is the best country in the world. Another great song is "White wine in the sun" by Tim Minchin.
