Good video. Thank for sharing. I am currently building an N-Scale layout but you have me thinking of an extra 1'x6.5' Hollow Core Door in my basement and a bunch of HO-scale equipment I have packed away. Very tempted to build something similar to yours
maurice grimes I plan to take down my 5x10 foot layout which is why I’m building this one, so I have somewhere to run equipment and a place to repurpose some of the structures (in a heavily kit-bashed form).
Hey this is great! Do you have a supply list and layout plans for this? I have a hollow core door that I'd like to do this on. Super new to the hobby though... thanks in advance.
No not really since I didn't plan it out in advance that much. I'll eventually get a layout track plan and list of stuff up and a wrap up video on the project.
I have Kadee couplers on everything except the locomotive (which I will change out soon). The Kadee couplers, in my experience, always work a lot more reliably, especially if using uncoupling magnets.
Why make the pencil markings if you're only going to paint over them before laying track. Why not paint first, then make markings since ballast will hide them..OR, why not lay in track the way you do, but submerge the track in 'concrete' to just see railhead in it /weather it and add divisions and cracks in it and a semi-truck /auto or two on it.
PS. This is all too fine-furniture-like for a MRR..I would not frame the sky backdrop, too. Whole thing could have been built using two 8' 2"x3" stringers and cross members.. Foam board could have gone right on top or first using 1/2" 5-ply plywood 2 x 8.. Either way, no spackling (none existent dips) would be needed. Since ballast was in the plans, why hide wires like that if ballast will cover them anyway ? And best way to do this is to pre-solder wire to bottoms of rail joiners...Entire unit mounted on either metal wall brackets or diagonal legs front on unit to wall at floor... The ME track is a good call for sure. But........
It's in the garage now but will be going in my office at some point when it is done so I originally made it to match some of the furniture and fit a specific space over one of the desks in between some other shelf units.
Always learn a lot watching your videos, keep them coming...Tony
Nice little HO scale layout you are building, Steve. Keep up the good work! I have built a small N scale Inglenook layout that is only four feet long.
Great tutorial video, Steve. - Drew

nice clean job... thanks for sharing.. vinny
What size turnouts did you use. I’m collecting 50ft boxcars for mine, so I need a larger turnout than for 40ft cars.
I used #6 turnouts which is fine for most rolling stock.

What couplers do you see with the magnets

Yeah I didn't do things in the right order but I often change my mind on what I want to do and just didn't want to look at the unpainted foam.

I do also like wood working and have built a few furniture pieces for people. So a lot of my layouts get nice frames and such.
