  • Learn the Russian alphabet one letter at a time. Listen to 3 examples for each letter of the alphabet. Each example is spoken by a male and a female voice.
    amzn.to/2EVtU5K - Our recommended book for self-learning Russian.
    The voice-over is recorded by Oleg and Nadya. They are from Moscow. The speech is a little slower than the 1 voice version of this video. Each letter is introduced with 3 examples. Try saying each word after you hear it. The second time you watch the video you should pause on each letter of the alphabet and try reading each word.
    Be sure to subscribe to our channel. Visit our website if you are looking for detailed, and free, information to help you learn Russian. We have a detailed lesson about the Russian alphabet. The letters are grouped together for easy learning.

      @Умом Россию не понять Because Spanish is easier, hence you should learn the hardest language first as a kid and then move out to things you can easily comprehend even with the cognitive decline operating as soon as mid 20's. Russian is beautiful, everything shouldn't be a matter of convenience.

      @ThatAlabamaDude I supposed if I lived in Alabama, I might think that was the most important word to learn, too;)
      But I just had an awful thought: hearing that word pronounced with a US Southern accent would be painful indeed! After all: on top of stumbling badly over the 2 out of 3 consonants in that word that don't exist in English, you would add insult to injury by turning that beautiful, pure Russian vowel into a Southerner's diphthong or worse yet, triphthong!

    I've always wanted to learn another language. I'm not sure which one, but I definitely want to learn one or more languages. Russian would definitely be one of them. But yeah, I've always wondered how the Russian alphabet was said, read and pronounced so thank you for making this video for us. It was pretty interesting and very educational to see. I definitely have to watch it a hundred more times in order to get it and pick up on it and understand/ memorize it. But again, thank you for making and sharing this video with us. This was so interesting to learn.

    • @russianlessons
      @russianlessons  7 ปีที่แล้ว +142

      This vowel changes pronunciation when it's syllable is stressed. "o" is stressed. "a" is unstressed. Every word has one syllable that is stressed, the rest of the syllables are not stressed. It's best to learn it by listening to words. It's the only letter in Russian where the stress is very important.

      Ну вот так вот сложилось, что в русском языке стихийно появилась редукция "о". Долгое время произношение "о" сохранялось в северных диалектах, к которым редукция "подкралась" только в 20-м веке с распространением радио и телевидения, но теперь и их нет.
      Вот в южнославянских языках редукции "о" не произошло.

Or perhaps I should start my own neo-imperialist movement?! Whatever, it will be done to the sound of Russian hardbass!!! :D

    • @russianlessons

      Yes, we are planning to... For now...This exercise has helped English speakers...
      -Try making the "m" sound as normal.
      -Now put your tongue on the roof of your mouth, as if you going to say "ch", but instead say "m"
      That's the difference between unpalatalized and palatalized consonants. (hard and soft). It's simply the tongue position that is different. In English, we don't make this distinction so our brain is not trained to hear it.
      Most consonants can be pronounced hard or soft. (all except ж, ц, ч, ш, щ)
      So when do you pronounce hard or soft? It depends on the vowel that follows....
      Ы, Э, О, У, А - Pronounce the previous consonant hard.
      И, Е, Ё, Ю, Я - Pronounce the previous consonant soft.
      The hard and soft sign change this default behaviour....
      ь - pronounce the previous consonant soft, regardless of the vowel (if any) that follows.
      ъ - pronounce the previous consonant hard, regardless of the vowel that follows. (This is the default, so you don't need it at the end of words).

      @BOBER-OPPORTUNIST 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      "ъ" has its origin from very short "о" or even "ы"
      "ь" has its origin from very short "и" or "е"
