The 358 Peterbilt was built from 1968 onwards. Very stable vehicle and learned to drive on a copy of the Soviet Union made in the Ukraine, the Kraz, in the military. G5, Kraz and Ural were the vehicles we used back then. Laugh, you can see where you bought one. In 1976, I drove a longer 358 Peterbilt myself, after I had changed and crossed the border. My boss at the time had one as a replacement vehicle. Normally we drove the MAN Büssing, the Scania and quite honestly the Scania 140 was the best truck I ever drove. Good luck Rick, take good care of the truck, it will always serve you well. Stay healthy and stay the way you are. Greetings from Grankfurt. Gerold
IFA G5 mit Werkstattkoffer A Baujahr 1964 TH-cam · Militär- und Landtechnik Klaus Schröder 07.05.2023 by TH-cam Rick the old Peterbilt, was a great truck. No power steering, transmission, you learned to shift gears, always pay attention to the revs so that the machine didn't run away. It wasn't for nothing that he became a driver. Smile, only with strong arms could you drive in the mountains, with lots of bends and backwards, always looking in the mirror, or something was in the way.
Hey Wrecker Rick, just want to say me and my dad love your videos. We even watched this one twice(lol). He's been down lately after a series of health problems but every time a new video drops he just lights up again! Much appreciate you & Mrs. Wrecker Rick and the Wrecker Rick crew!
@@trail-wolf4x4 best to the you and Ole Man….times like this is hard for both son and father….I pray that you both fare well and fight like Hell to keep on keeping ON👊🇺🇸👊
Glass is not a problem for that truck, anyone with real flat glass experience will have no problem cutting all new glass for the truck. when I was in high school my friends father owned a glass business and I worked for them for two years doing flat glass. We did a ton of glass on heavy equipment usually on job sites where the equipment was left and vandalized.
Great video of ole Eddie I got my CDL in an ole International 8V71. Better put a drip pan under Eddie they leak oil like crazy. They make noise but no power . God love em . Thank you for sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍
You should call him "Special Ed". I love all the added metal they've put on the truck thru the years. That truck has personality & so much history. Will be cool to see it when done. Love your channel!
Everyone knows "Eddies" are a different breed altogether. They are a little squirky, a little funny and a whole lot of useless information. But as my brother Eddie says , " I might be a tool , but at least I'm a useful tool ! Love the beginning, looking forward to thre build
I was in the ready mix industry for 50 years. I learned how to drive with a 5 and A4 I think it was a Diamond Rio C180 8yard ready mix truck. I also drove an old half cab with A6V71 Detroit hooked up to an Allison transmission. I can remember laying in bed at night and my ears were just screaming. Love your channel Stay classy!
Screamin Demon. Those engines were insanely loud. Knew a guy who next to one on a drill rig all day - no ear protection - damn near stone cold deaf after 5 years and could barely sleep due to severe Tinnitus. Those engines were a menace.
For goodness sake tell Danaro not to pick his nose on camera. I’m sitting in the hospital waiting on my wife. She’s having some test done. But anyway I’m laughing out loud at Wrecker Rick, driving that old truck around and the cat insert when the guys ran away from the truck. You’re awesome Rick!
Ran a 74 Astro for a friend of mine hauling grain was turned abut a bit you shifted at around 2400 to 2500 318 13 speed when you haul out the field heavy you don’t make any money at 4 miles per gallon
What is up Ranger Rick? Good to see another one of your videos up so fast. I can watch your videos for hours. You guys are the best. God Bless you and your family!
I’m early in the video. Not sure if you’re going to paint the truck? Paint, or match the tanks with the same paint or patina with stainless straps on the fuel tanks! Just saying! Ronnie East, Tennessee
Seriously ? It's starts running away and everybody runs away from the truck. I have never seen anyone do that before. Most people are prepared for it and try to shut it down... The term run away is for the engine, not the people working on it . This video was almost painful to watch between the engine running away, ignoring the locked up brake, and then the "drive". I drove truck for over 40 years, and the first truck I drove was a Kenworth W-900 with an 8V-71. They are gutless, make a lot of noise, leak a lot of oil, and the jakes aren't great either. Ether is your friend with a 318 in cold weather. I did drive a 358 Pete log truck that also had a 318. Fortunately the engine in that truck had some work done to it, so it ran decent back in the day. I absolutely loved that truck... I'm looking forward to seeing the changes. I was a little surprised that you are changing the frame.
The new shop is looking amazing and I can’t wait to see it filled with jobs in need of being done !!! It’s looking like there’s going to be living quarters over the office space in the future, not sure if it’s for storage but it looks like a large spot for future use!!!! Can’t wait to see the place finished and wondering how the outside is looking and if the pumps are in yet!!???
@ A live update on the news of the progress would be amazing!!! And I loved the girls getting dressed up like you it put a big fat smile on my face those girls are amazing!!!
I’ve never commented on a video before. I was a diesel mechanic when I was younger. I’ve worked a lot on the old two stroke engines. They are constantly dripping oil from the blower drain box. The 892 was very popular especially the silver version. The 871 was your everyday get the job done motor. The trick with them is each injector was controlled with the rack bar and if the rack bar was out of adjustment they would run away until they grenade. Pound for pound they were an amazing motor but they had their drawbacks. Don’t ever start one without the emergency shutdown installed. When they grenade they send parts everywhere. There’s no rpm limit. Just fyi.
Back in the day the 892 Silver TTA was the competition for the big CATs on the hills mentioned in all the old country songs that involved truck driving. I have a soft spot for the two strokes. I spent lots of time working on them. And the second most popular was the 855 series Cummins.
Keep doing what you want to do Wrecker Rick!!! I kinda like what @Mr Thang33 said He should be Called "Special ED"!!! I do believe that truck will kick all kinds of ass when you replace frames and give Ole ED a special tune/updates LOL God Bless and keep up the great videos!!!

ol2stroker here on youtube can probably help you with any questions or finding parts. Love the truck and looking foreword to seeing what you do with it.
The 871 actually gets its name from the number of cylinders and cubic inch displacement per cylinder. So it’s 8 cylinders and 71 cubic inches per cylinder
Well 8 cylinders @ 71 cubic inches displacement, very similar to the GM 16-645 16 cylinders @ 645 cubic inches displacement, when these big boys run away 1500 RPM it's no big deal they're inside a locomotive, you can stand right next to them.

You failed to take the fuel lines loose and spray some PB blaster or some kind in the injectors and it wouldn’t of run away

It was hitting my temporary fuel lines, and bent one of the rods. It does have a switch in the cab, but only works if it has air going to it
Yes cab overs have a jack on them to assist
