Sacred Cats doesn't give enough of an increase in food to lower the animations needed to reach 30 food at a lot of the tiers of farming. That's why it doesn't seem to give anything, but working as intended. It is same with Adze of Wepwawet and Hand axe.
Also if you want help with these hit me up. A lot of the testing had been done in text form so I'm sure it'll be easier for you to have all the resources :p

I absolutely love this channel. It's like SpiritOfTheLaw but for Age of Mythology and it's my favourite rts game by far. I've watched every video like three times and I keep learning stuff. What an amazing find of a channel, I hope you keep pumping out AoM content.

great video! How do the Atlanteans stack up? They seem to collect food very quickly from farms but I don't have the numbers
They dont move to drop things off so they will be the best combination for any gather method
@@bohdistavagarcia3355 True, but since their Citizens cost about 3 times as much as a regular villager from other cultures, the question would be: do they actually collect food from farm 3 times as quickly as anyone else?
91 food/min on a farm no upgrades
if divided by 3, that's 30 food/min, which is fair as they cost around as much as 2.5 villagers + 25 wood.
Atlanteans seem like an absolute beast in the economic department. I accumulate a ton of resources every time I play as them.
@@akiraigarashi2874 well, they have no travel time and don´t need a lumbermill/mill or miningcamp. also gaia is pretty good in economy. but they take up 3 pop, are very costly and get beaten by the same pop of normal villagers
I find your and SotL's videos not only informative for players, but for game makers as well. I only approach game design as a hobby but holy shit these would be very helpful for game developers, as you dissect the game mechanics deeper. Good work, thanks

But wait your graph doesn't have Domesticated Animal food as one of its lines: is food from pigs/sheep ect. gathered at the same speed as wild animals? That's not the case right? What about the domestication boost?

Thank you Protoxx, very informational video. I always found it weird how berry bushes have no upgrades. I could see them "fatten" like herd animals. Well, regardless of speed, they are a safe and most importantly free way of getting grub.
And also, for animal-lovers, the way of starting your economy without any guilty conscience. I always hate when starting food source of map is either docile huntables or chicken/ducks (though I found a way to cheat that feel of guilt with wild boars, where they at least have a way to defend themselves, and fishing ships, where I at least dont see that act per se. I know it sounds a bit hypocritical, but come on, how would I be able to play and enjoy AoM otherwise?) and when enemy godpower in Mythic Age kills majority or even all of my precious herdable pets (f**king Fimbulwinter!). So yeah, not a kind of competitive player at all xD
@@mausolus8466 That's a pretty unique perspective though, I like it. Sometimes I feel bad killing the piggies for meat... much better if I know they was soldiers before some Greek pulled a curse of hogs on them.
@@sipofsunscorchedsarsaparil6052 Especially if they were soldiers raiding your town and you used that Curse on them (Im still baffled about calvary in this aspect though. How does it works? Does it imprison both psyches in one body? Does it send mount painlessly into afterlife while turning the rider or vice versa?). I love this aspect of poetic justice most in case of Atlantean god power Spider Lair. As an arachnophobe, I find a death by being eaten by giant spider very grim. But in case of those batards that keep raiding my town, I mock them with satisfaction. A bit sadistic? Yes. But they should think twice before trying to turn my carefully build domain into pile of burning debris.

@@sipofsunscorchedsarsaparil6052 Well, if I play Atlanteans, I always choose Oceanus in Classical Age (As Caladrias are de facto only primal source universal of healing for Atlanteans), but when I played demo as kid, and the only playable god was Cronos, I just couldnt resist giving my enemies a sample of my own nightmares (although, in case of calvary, I always pittied the poor mount that was draged along). I guess we could give a try of game, but I have to warn you, I really suck at it (I'm definetely a roleplayer in RTS games, rather than competitive player) xD

can you make a which unit is best at siege in all ages, including myth siege-based units?
I recall pharaohs of Set can summon wild animals as units for the player that can be hunted for food, at the cost of divine favor.
Can't wait until AOE IV comes out. AOM is my all time favorite but i'll definitely be playing AOE IV.

Pig Sticker is great because it helps gathers and dwarves kill boars and other dangerous animals quickly and safely
archaic age: wildberries/hunting/fishing (Egyptian only:farms)
classic age: hunting/farming/fishing
heroic age:farm/fishing/herds
mythic age: farm/fishing
any age: ship of fingernails relic, and/or black lotus relic

I dont like Micro Managing all the food sources and then running out of things to hunt so I usually just instantly start with Farms, especially with Atlanteans I just get a constant stream of food no hassle
Hunting is much more fast than farming, especially in the first 1-2 ages
Yeah, I usually just kill off the Goats and Chickens and Deer that are nearby immediately then focus on other things, I've played AOM for awhile but im not great at it, especially not at flipping myself across the map constantly
You forgot chickens, don't they gather slower than other hunt and herdables?

How about collecting chickens? Is is the same as hunting since it says " This animal can be hunted "
I think they count as herdable, like sheep and pigs and cows, rather than wild game, so the benefit more from husbandry tech than hunting dogs
@@eliaswewel3899 Nope. They are defined as huntable prey in the proto file. Therefore hunting dogs is the technology, that will make you collect from them faster
@@fifaisscripted Nope. Hunting dogs does not work on chickens. He was right when he said husbandry is the applicable tech. This is because husbandry increases the amount of food you can hold. So less walking time because more time spent gathering.

Husbandry does not work on chickens because they are missing the unit type "Huntable" to which the technology is referring. However this doesn't make sense, since chickens are still defined as prey and hunted resource in the proto file. I think they either forgot to give them the unit type "huntable" or left it out in purpose.
I think I will correct this in my mods, because to me, it doesn't make sense that a hunted animal is not counted as huntable
@@fifaisscripted It's intentional for balance. Chickens are there on low hunt maps where food is meant to be more scarce, or they are in the base while better things to hunt are not as safe and outside of the base. Changing that in a mod would fundamentally change build orders when it doesn't need to be.
I myself prefer to play Norse (Loki), I also prefer Farms for my end, I tend to have about 14 - 15 Farms around the Town Center.
Farms are nice because they don't require you to macro/move villagers a lot
Is sacred cats broken?
Not exactly. The issue is that gathering is tied to animation cycles in addition to all bonuses. The increase from Sacred Cats is too low to reduce gathering by an additional "tick". Same goes for the wood upgrade but it has the side benefit of knocking down the trees faster.

What game is this ?
The greatest game of all time Age of Mythology! If you like RTS games and Egyptian, Greek, Norse time period. It's an old one but still the best imo. Better than the Age of empire series because of god powers and myth units. Besides that they're kind of similar.

Why are berries the worst food source when they have 35/min rate? Fishing ships have 34/min and farms have 34/min. I am talking about the archaic age. Nobody is going to use berries later.
Because with ships and farms you're already getting the infrastructure required to use them at a later point in the game? Just a guess.
well they are "okay" early game given that they are close to your town , but what Baluar said, if its a map with water you'll be building up ur ships for late game.
I love this game, sadly the steam version is completely unplayable on multiplayer.
