      Lol, if you listen to the locals then these systems are grimiest on earth! Maybe that's why they're so clean. Everyone around here keeps complaining that everything is dirty, but I honestly just can't see it. It's just another quirk of SF. Everyone is constantly complaining about things that are clearly not even happening or if they are happening nearly as bad as they make it out to be

    SMART would be worth adding, they have a new ferry-train combo ticket too. Gotta check out the new Van Ness "BRT", its awesome... open busway for the Muni 49 and a handful of GGT buses. Its just infrastructure for a key portion of these routes, its not a BRT operation.

    My favorites are the Muni Metro and the Bart Subway. Last time I visited they still had the Boeing LRVs including some inherited from Boston

    • @amfm889
      @amfm889 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True: the MBTA had so many problems with their Boeing cars they refused the final shipment, and MUNI took them instead.

    • @sfmike711
      @sfmike711 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Edward Miessner : Muni originally ordered 100 Boeings to replace 100 PCCs, the thought being the larger cars would suffice. Muni was wrong as the Meto became an instant hit. Muni eventually realized that extremely crowded Boeings would no longer cut it. Boston decided not to exercise the option they had for 40 cars so Muni immediately jumped in and picked them up. Those 40 cars were not inherited but, rather, purchased when the opportunity arose. Those Boeings were eventually replaced by a fleet by Breda and the Bredas are now being replaced by Siemens.

    • @melbaker9495
      @melbaker9495 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Boeings were hated by us locals. They were too small and broke down constantlu. All the the historic electric trolleys on the F line are from all over the world, different U.S. cities, the UK and even Milan, Italy. They offered the unit that maintains those lines some Boeings for historical purposes and they said they weren't interested. When you get dissed by the preservationist guys, you know you aren't wanted!

    • @sfmike711
      @sfmike711 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@melbaker9495 : The Boeings weren't "too small" as all three modern streetcars used by the City are basically the same size. Configuration of seats and space on the inside would allow variations on how many passengers could cram inside. And, yes, they indeed were a maintenance nightmare. Also, it's true that Market Street Railway and Muni weren't very interested in a Boeing for the historic roster.
      As for the PCCs in use today, most of them originally ran in the City, having been purchased outright from the car builder or second hand from Saint Louis surplus. A handful later came from Toronto to help out during the final years of the Metro system construction. After the F-line took flight, more PCCs were needed and New Jersey Transit was selling off the old rolling stock which Muni bought. All the PCCs have been refurbished and rebuilt.
      The Milan trams are all surplus after they were replaced by new rolling stock. The other cars used (usually for special events or days) are either historic SF cars or cars from foreign cities.
      By the way, I actually liked the Boeings.

    Is there another city in the US with more modes than SF? I can’t think of one. It has Bus, Trolleybus, Cable Car, Streetcar/Light rail, Rapid Transit, Ferry and Commuter Rail. Even within the modes there is such diversity. Muni Metro has portions of street running streetcar, light rail in median and underground metro style service. Within the bus category there is almost every type: both standard and articulated hybrid bus and trolley bus, AC Transit runs double decker buses into the city and Golden Gate Transit runs high floor coach buses. Now with the recent reopening of Van Ness there is even BRT

      Seattle too but swap Cable Cars (which they had until 1940) with another novelty... monorail. Seattle has a huge range of transit types, obviously lots of ferries but also a wide range of buses. LRT comes in all types of operation: street running streetcars and typical LRT with underground.

    I love SF public transit!!! There are all transport modes in the city - buses, trackless trolleys, streetcars, subways, commuter trains, people movers and ferries. But as I know they open BRT but still doesn't return trolleybus operation in 49, do you know why is it so? Trolleybuses was in open ceremony of BRT corridor, but now there are bus operation, only...
    Also, I'm waiting for central subway extension, because it can improve people mobility and expand LRT network with high speed average in comparison with ground level speeds.

    • @jonw999999
      @jonw999999 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They need to do some route changes. The 47 went away during COVID service reductions (and never returned) and it had a 5 block tail into eastern Fishermans Wharf along North Point that has no wire (east of Columbus). The 49 picked up that Fisherman's Wharf leg. Don't know why they don't run it off-wire (they run a much longer off wire extension to Crissy Field on the 30), anyhow its understood that the 28 will pick up this Fisherman's Wharf leg, the 49 will go back to terminating at the foot of Van Ness and then will go back to trolley.

    Only thing about the Muni light rail that I hate is how the trains all have high floors despite most of the stations having low platforms. It's because the subway tunnels were all built with high platforms but I hope someday that they can be modified for low platforms instead.

    • @TohaBgood2
      @TohaBgood2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're actually upgrading the low-platform stations to level boarding instead of the other way around. This was always the plan from the very beginning, but they never had the funds to do all the stations at once. The Muni Metro is envisioned as a mixed metro rather than a streetcar/European-style tram. They are also planning on separating the light-rail vehicles from traffic and speeding up the operations to a more subway-like service pattern. All the new lines are more tram-train than streetcar in keeping with this conception and the old lines are gradually getting upgraded.
      There is a separate streetcar network that is run with vehicles that are more similar to a streetcar. Those are supposed to run in more mixed traffic and could conceivably become low-floor vehicles in the future. At the moment those are all run with restored vintage vehicles from all around the world. It's basically a rolling museum or streetcars/trams.

    Το πρόβλημα δεν είναι τα διαφορετικά είδη μετακίνησης (light rail, metro, subway, trolleys, buses (diesel engines) και cable cars). Καθένα από αυτά επιτελεί άλλο είδος μετακίνησης, λ.χ. το light rail είναι πιο "αστικό", το metro βγαίνει και προς τα προάστια, ο προαστιακός κατευθύνεται πέρα από τα προάστια, στις κοντινότερες πόλεις, τα λεωφορεία και τα trolleys να συνδέουν τις ενδιάμεσες περιοχές με τα μέσα "σταθερής τροχιάς" και το cable car έχει μείνει για τις... ανηφόρες και τους τουρίστες. Το πρόβλημα είναι αν όλα αυτά τα μέσα έχουν α. ενιαίο εισιτήριο και β. αν οι κάτοικοι του San Francisco επιλέγουν για τις μετακινήσεις τους όλα αυτά τα μέσα ή αυτά κινούνται... άδεια!
