Not a political party problem or situation. The poverty filled a vacuum. COVID changed the world and our way of working by moving us out of buildings, commuting, lunch time at the cafe, bus needs, taxi needs, and shopping all stopped. We found new ways of doing the same business without needing the buildings, sales force on site, and transportation. Because it stopped, it may not start again. Start thinking about a different way of doing business. And comparing Tokyo and the Japanese with us is apples and clothing. So far away from the United States and so far from whatever culture we think we have. Japan is an island is so many ways.

I see a small light at the end of the tunnel now that Oakland residents are threatening a recall election against DA Pamela Price who enables criminals to go back out in the streets. The thing about crime is that most of them are committed by the same small group of people. There was a study in Manhattan that over 90% of reported property crimes/thefts were being committed by the same 60+ people who just kept getting a slap in the wrist and free to go back and do it all over again. You can’t be nice to criminals they will take advantage of it.

As a native born San Franciscan it’s sad to see how far it’s declined. I was born there in 1949.
Moved to other parts of the Bay Area in 1968, but still visited family in SF until 2019.
This started with newsome and harris during their watch. Undeniable, so please don’t give any excuses for them. Willie brown and Ed Lee tried but the damage was already done.
So now what? ‘Hoping’ that it will fix itself? Doubtful. If you’re a newbie from the past 10-20 years..and you truly care and love the City… please please.. stop voting identity politics. SF desperately needs much better leadership. Desperately. Especially at what you’re paying in taxes for their ridiculous salaries. You’re getting screwed and you deserve better. So does the former jewel of the west coast. This isn’t what SF should be.
    Please WU.
I’m not involved anymore. I got tired of the insane fees and regulations for property owners.
I feel blessed to have sold and moved to a better place. If you’re still living there, please understand what I’m saying. I still love my hometown SF. It’s heartbreaking to know what it once was and to see this rapidly expanding decay.
It’s on you now. Don’t let it be on your karma for the destruction it’s currently going through.

KPIX posted a vid several hours ago titled "Companies depart downtown offices for San Francisco Presidio." DTSF is wheezing while the Presidio, per KPIX, is doing well. The CEO of Hamilton Zanse, a management business based in the Presidio, is interviewed & he said that the future again will be DTSF ("hopefully very soon").
As for SD, the fact it's near Tijuana, where I've seen parking lots with prison-type barbed wire around them (& gut-wrenching poverty), shows that as with DTSF vs the Presidio, areas very close to each other are affected by politics, culture/economics, demographics. I'd consider living & working in SD, whereas I wouldn't want to live or work in Tijuana---Mexico's political scene has been largely left-leaning for generations & is full of corruption.

1:44 - that is false, the transit center is fully usable now. it was closed for around 7 months when they discovered the crack.
1:57 - the salesforce transit center is literally in the financial district. the financial district will be empty on weekends, holidays, and midday. does street view tell you what time it is? no. but having visited the transit center just a couple weeks ago on a weekday at rush hour, i will tell you it is really busy. it is NOT that empty on weekends
3:13 - the central subway is quite empty sometimes because it barely goes anywhere. that said, i have seen it really busy sometimes. that video was DEFINITELY not rush hour
5:23 - *Fisherman's Wharf is PACKED* on weekends. I went to the Ferry Building and the Embarcadero a couple weeks ago and it was really busy. "Fisherman's Wharf is empty" and proceeds to not show a street view of Fisherman's Wharf.
San Francisco has its problems and the downtown are is really empty, I will admit that. Tenderloin is (and has always been) a pretty bad area. But the most popular areas like Fisherman's Wharf and Golden Gate Park are NOT empty at all. San Francisco's crime rate is not much higher than any other major US city.

If you’ve ever visited the transit center you know the action is all on the rooftop park. It can get busy during the day and the cafe Andytown has lines out the door. The seating is usually taken with people grabbing a bear or slice of pizza. Also the center was designed for trains to run to the unbuilt train which will more than 10x the current amount of people entering the area. That project is 75% funded and will break ground next year. As of now it services a very limited number of bus routes from the east bay.

I do feel sorry for the small business owners.... I myself, a small business owner for 30 years left SF area in 2017 when they began ignoring crime and letting criminals go without punishment. I saw what was coming and am glad I did: Leaving was the best thing I did in my life. This IS exactly what the voters want and should be happy with now they have it. I really never imagined anyone would want to have homeless on their doorsteps, crime as their daily routine all their stores disappear and shopping for items behind security doors/ plexiglass sheets, but hey... whatever floats their boat. The word of the day... "Progressive".

The Muni station is kind of inaccurate. I went to that specific station a couple times. There was a decent amount of people there. Never empty. Also, the Powell section of Chinatown isn’t really the main part of Chinatown. Stockton is the main “street” of Chinatown.

Their are some things important to remember. First SF had the highest office occupancy rate of any city in the US pre pandemic. It was due for an adjustment in the future as the rents were only going up. Second the Salesforce transit center is not full due to the fact that it’s designed train station isn’t built yet but the building above is. Also the bus deck was significantly overbuilt to accommodate future demand via dedicated bus lanes across the bay bridge. It’s hard to say weather or not any of those concepts are going to be built in the near future due to the current situation surrounding the occupancy of offices. San Francisco has been trending in the right direction over the last 2 years but it will take some time for it to be perfect.

@rollinrat4850 compared to 2021 or 2022 SF is improving. Yea businesses are still leaving but the city’s decline has slowed which shows it could soon be on the up again. I don’t see the city going back to 2017-19 levels of tourism and business again as than the city had 97% office occupancy. The issues in San Francisco are grossly exaggerated due to political agendas. The left will try to convince everyone that Florida is living hell when the right wants to portray that image of California and SF due to it being strongly associated with progressives. San Francisco is a city that has been through way more ups and downs than any other. The city still has a bright future and a lot of wealth still resides in the city as shown by its housing prices.

More like Asia than America with them sprawling mall like spaces and no people. They didn't plan for the population drop from abortion. In the future it'll be small immigrant groups and no locals left. In my generation born in 78 there was already only maybe ten thousand students in my old state of Wisconsin in my year. It's been really depressing never finding a mate or anyone I can relate with similar to myself.

SF is worse, much worse than many cities in Asia! Go to Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Ho Chi Min City, Bangkok, etc.see if you will find people shooting needles into their vein, or defecating on the street in their downtown areas, see how clean the shopping malls of Asia are. Then look at how pathetic SF is by comparison. Everything in SF even the food stores reek of filthiness and disease!
