- Fiame Naomi Mataafa, Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Independent State of Samoa, addresses the general debate of the 78th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 19 - 26 September 2023).

The Prime Minister of Samoa, Fiamē Naomi Mata'afa, said, “targeted solutions must be complemented by ensuring climate finance for frontline countries and utilizing the best available science and technology.”
Mata'afa stressed, “scientists have warned of imminent, more frequent and many more extreme weather events, resulting in more lives lost and costlier, less resilient infrastructure.”
She continued, “June 2023 is remembered for the warmest ever recorded global average temperatures up by more than 1.2°C compared to pre-industrial levels.”
The Prime Minister also said, “We live in a highly contested region that is attracting intensified geostrategic interest.”
She added, “for small island countries in the Pacific like Samoa, security is more than geostrategic power.”
Mata'afa explained, “an expanded definition of security for the region reflects our desire to nuance our priorities and the demand for climate resilient and environmentally conscious infrastructure rather than simply viewing them through a lens of strategic competition. In this way can we ensure living in peace.”
She concluded, “as a small nation with no military force, we continue to highlight the importance of multilateral platforms and the UN in conflict resolution and governance.”

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.

Money, money, money…. who will work for who free? 8Billion people who all want to flourish….on someone else’s dime. There are not enough slaves to do this amount of free labor. And only a capitalist country comes up with new technology. Taxpayers have to subsidize that technology, capitalists get it to market. If 8B think 150M can support every aspect of 8Billion flourishing…. they are looking thru rose colored spectacles. Every sovereign nation must stand on their own 2 feet. They are getting the technology free, but they must pay for everything else.
