As a kid, the close by SD-10 used to scare me when it was tested. Then, I did a report in high school on J. N. Hedberg, who made sirens here in San Jose. Some years later, about 1999, I found the siren board.
Quick thing about that Model 5 that fell over (in case you haven’t heard already) that siren is actually being (cosmetically) restored and will be put back up in its original spot (without the pole ofc) as a display.
I'm really glad to hear that, I'm not surprised that it will be pretty much gutted, I know for sure the rotor and stator probably didn't survive that fall.
Yeah same for me, I think I'll be doing a video after I get the new series out that goes over all that we know about the L.A. system. Including all the oddities.
Great video man. Glad to see more people are interested in viewing and preserving these sirens here in Los Angeles. Also great to see a Fedelcode and 500 up close. Also, FYI, most of the sirens still have the phone lines connected. Just no power.
@@connorcruz6249 I have a question about the sirens in Los Angeles imagine if they were still active especially the SD 10s 500s model 5Ts that would scare the living hell out of you
I’ve watched this before and I’m rewatching the video but as you guys talked about how you got into siren lemme say how I did. It’s short but at my elementary school there was a 2001 outside and I’ve always thought how cool it sounded when they tested but not until like 2 to 3 years ago I started to get more into them then I ever have been but that’s my story on how I got into them
44:01 mine started in 2018 when I was watching a popular fan enthusiast by the name of Dan neuman and the sirens in his area tested, thought it sounded nice and I looked up about them and became an enthusiast that same hour, and that making the first siren test video I watched was of the p50 next to the Hudson water tower in Hudson Wisconsin
32:03 How can turning on a siren make the lights go out? It's just like when I turn on my air conditioner in the summer. Is it an electricity overload?
I couldn't see any back in October 2022 when I went on vacation because I was at Disney Land which is quite far from any LA siren :/ I've flown over the sirens though lol
Aw hell naw you're doing siren vlogs now :O Was neat of you to show Edaan's mini siren stuff too. You'll never guess who printed that Cylclone stator at 35:00 😁
No shot, thats yours!? Big RIP my guy😂 . And yeee I just wanted to try somethin a little different than what most siren vlogs consist of, where they don't offer much more information than what you could get from Google street view 😶
Love this video! Even though I'm late to comment lol. I got earblasted by a vortex during a tornado warning when I was 6 and that's what kickstarted my interest.
@@Gvacshaha yes. The Whelens aren’t the loudest but they’re still unpleasant to get blasted with. Also, in many cases they’re louder than you would think.
Nah, Edaan's heath was in someone else's collection before he got a hold of it, and I'm not certain where it originally came from but I know for a fact that it's not the pleasanton one.
My city 200 miles north of LA has the same brand of air raid sirens. They were installed in the 1950s during the Cold War and tested monthly. Last time they were tested was in the 1960s. These sirens are still used today in the Midwest as tornado sirens. I think the copper thieves have stripped the wiring out of ours. I think you are an "Aspie", Asperger's Syndrome.
I was thinking the same, one of the biggest downsides of them not being tested for such a long time is that they would need some considerable work to get them operable again now
It angers me that LA just abandoned their system and just replace it with the EAS, what if you're phone is dead and you don't see a huge tornado behind you?
Glad to see that the LA Sirens are still being talked about today :)

You should go climb one of the debated sirens. The cut-down ones. Would be nice to actually have some clearance as to what they are.
I already have, I did it quite awhile ago now, they're federal electric Mach 7's and are 9/12 port. I know it's pretty weird
