As a retired multi coded welder from North Sea in Scotland, my worse nightmare was purging stainless steel on pipe work, sometimes 1 inch in diameter. 3 repairs, and oil companies sent you off for a retest. Some welders wouldn’t fire up, until scaffolders had harped them in, with no wind what so ever, as wind would blow argon away from inside pipe. We would light a match, and if if flickered , then it wasn’t wise to start welding your butt. Only trade to get tested for oil rigs, that’s why we were gods out there. Especially a Babcock n Wilcox welder, who were the cream of welders.🥳🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍

I would be great if somebody could explain how the "SPOT" works on EXT machines. Thank you for the videos.

      Oh that's an easy one.
      1. Think about the way you would want the function to work.
      2. Assume it's the opposite of that.
      3. So sorry.

Awesome video thanks Jesse. So that was two nice shiny plates close together upside down, which I can do but what about a corrosion hole in 1/4 inch aluminium plate ground out to say 1/4 inch and clean. How do you fill that? I always seem to end up with a nice pad on the outside(underside) with minimal penetration and filling of the hole. It usually looks terrible from the top side, do you have any secrets to get to the top of the hole?

My 1/8" thoriated tungsten tends to fall apart pretty rapidly while welding 1/4-3/8" aluminum. Maybe it's my settings? What tungsten would you use to weld AC at 250-300 amps? I recently picked up some 5/32" purple tungsten and consumables, but It would be great to see a video about this since I'm not having much luck on TH-cam. Looking forward to more of this welding school progress as well!

Can someone please explain the pulse function when you go below 1.0hz on the pulse frequency?
I can't figure out why it's doing what it's doing in that range.

What I find funny is you always set your machine with a "1", never 170 amps but 171 amps. So what's the deal with always ending with a one in the amperage setting? A little OCD, Superstition or is there a method to your madness. lol I've been meaning to ask.

It’s pure superstition on my part…. Balance on 0’s or 5’s, amps and freq on 1’s.
      I absolutely can’t explain it
