    I actually repotted 5 of my plants but you only see 2 of them here. The others I did as an arrangement & that’s coming in a future post & video. I call this project the “Snake Plant switcheroo” because I swapped out containers & locations they were in. Sansevieria, also known as Mother In Law Tongue, handle dry air & lower light conditions like champions!
    After the repotting was finished, I moved them to a shady place in the garden. I let them settle in for a day and then gave them both a thorough watering before moving them to their spots in the house. Anyone else as crazy about Snake Plants as I am?!

Thank you for your instructions ,I wasn’t sure about the type of soil mix to use for this cute plant . Bless you and your family, have a wonderful day I wish you more luck then you’ll need ( from a Jimmy Buffet song) and now to work making my little Sansevierias happy ! .......... if I sound a little ditzy .. that’s because I am ! 🤠

    So happy I found you. You work with your plants as I do. Lay paper down... easy clean up, same tools & I believe you are the 1st gardener I've seen on TH-cam who wears gloves. I love plants but for many years I have thought my townhome was too dark. After watching many videos I can now look around & see all the wasted spots I've missed. I have recently given homes to 6 plants & have found I can bring 12 more in, perhaps more? Wish me luck. I'll be watching you. Thanks.

    I have over 30 of these beautiful plants my tallest is about 4 1/2 feet tall and over 30 years old. It's a blooming momma that's been past down. We call her the big mamma, she grows like wildfire in my apartment. She loves being in the corner in low light and water 1 time a month. I have had to separate her 3 times. I finally put her in a giant pot . Once you divide it they will grow like crazy.

    Hi Nell, that's a great video. I "inherited" a snake plant from my mom. When I got it, it was in this small pot and had fungus flies in it. I dried and aerated the soil. Over the course of two weeks, they died off. The plant started taking off after I got rid of the pests. She had it in a pot that I felt was way too small, so I bought a bigger pot with a reservoir at the bottom. I transplanted it into potting soil with feed and after that, under the same conditions, new shoots disappeared in literally days. It's still a healthy plant, as the new shoots are still growing. It has three "leaners" and I'm glad you addressed that in your video; I thought something else was wrong.
    I was thinking of getting some root stimulator with potassium, as when I transplanted it, the root system wasn't that vast. Any ideas, please? Again, thank you for the great videos!

    My snake plant rots the same time of year now two years in a row. The first it was my boyfriend overwatering it so much that the wood floor was even sporting a rot ring! I took it outside, dried it out and let it grow outdoors for the rest of the summer. Removed all the squishy rot roots and replanted the good. It grew back lovely all through fall and winter and then in spring the rot came back. Probably because my boyfriend and that damn watering can! So now I've got about one good piece left. What size pot should i use for it?

    I have a medium size one that is really growing well. It is not shooting up new stalks. Am I doing something wrong? Your's seem to have a lot if new growth.

    Hi Nell. what would cause a snake plant leaf to bend and turn yellow? I really don't bother it much since it's low maintenance so I don't what could be the matter. Any ideas or tips would be much appreciated. thanks

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi - As you saw in the video, the outer leaves of a Snake Plant will sometimes bend over. This I believe is due to weight & the fact it doesn't have the inner leaves to hold it up. Yellowing leaves on a SP is due to too much water, too little water or too much sun. Nell

    Hi I have one like your dark green "mother-in-law tongue" and it actually bloomed this spring! Have you ever had one bloom? I've had this plant almost 20 years and this is the first time! I was so neat to watch it. Just thought I'd see what your experience was with blooming. My plant is inside all year - 6b zone - wouldn't do so well during the winter outside :( Would like to hear your thoughts. Very nice yellow color and pots. Thanks for the video.

    Hi Nell, Just curious what kind of compost you use for indoor plants? A lot of people say no no no to that so I was wondering what your perspective is on that (altho you and another person I also highly regard as knowing what they're doing with plants also uses indoor compost). Maybe this would make a good video. Thanks!

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It would make a good video - thanks for the suggestion! I use a local, organic compost - here's their link: tanksgreenstuff.com/ I've used compost when repotting my houseplants for years with fine results. My thinking is that all these plants grow outdoors in their native environs, so they're just outdoor plants brought indoors. However, as I said in the video, I only use 1/4 the amount that I would with plants growing outdoors. That would be way too much of a good thing. And, I top my houseplants with a thin layer of worm compost every spring. That's their natural feeding! Nell

    Hey Nell... love your videos!! I’m new to house plants... so far my Peace Lily & Golden Pothos are thriving. I just repotted them because they were root bound in the 4in pots that I purchased them in. I recently bought 3 baby snake plants in 4 in pots from Home Depot. One has a baby plant growing from the bottom. I want to repot it in a 6 in pot. I currently have Miracle Gro Moisture Control potting mix. Can I just use this or do I have to mix in a cactus/succulent mix as well? The Miracle Gro Moisture Control potting mix has perlite in it but is that enough?? Please help

    How to make short and bushy type of snake plants

    I just bought a huge one and I need advice, if I should repot i as I would any other normal house plant upon purchase and home going. Can any of you plant experts guide me please. It is BIG and I think it has been at the store for a while. It is green and beautiful and healthy, but a couple leaves of like 5 groupings of the plants together, look as if they have been a little abused. Other wise, they look really nice and healthy. It is just so BIG.
    Help. What do I do? Repot or leave alone. The internet says leave it alone.
