I promise you there is nothing more startling than hearing voices and activity inside of an abandoned building. My urban explorations took me to the abandoned former American Motors Corporation headquarters on 14250 Plymouth Road in Detroit, Michigan.

From Detroit Metro myself, and I'm pretty sure the Homeless are up in there all the time. You wouldn't catch me in there without some sort of self-defense item.

I worked for a construction contractor when American Morors sold in 1987. (I think...maybe 88). We were tasked in building large interior walls in that building. We were there for well over a year when we got the news it sold. Kind of strange to put up that kind of money when you know it's going to be sold. Nice seeing the inside of the building. Take care, be safe.

WOW! Thank you Anton!! This was where it all started for me. I worked here from 1987 until 1994. It's strange seeing this once beautiful building and once well manicured grounds in such terrible conditions, but it is bittersweet seeing my old facility again. A man purchased it a couple years ago for $500.00, but it had hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes owed. He lost it to tax foreclosure not even one year after purchasing it from the city. I'm sure that it will be demolished soon. So very sad.

Hey, Anton, like your channel, love what you're doing. I grew up on Harlem and I love architecture, and old buildings. So it's great to see a brother like yourself exploring some of the history of the Detroit area.
When I travel through what is now called the rust belt, those abandoned factories and plants seem to talk. It's easy to imagine all of the people who use to work at these places, the lives and the stories that happened there.
    Keep up the good work!

You gotta believe that any sizable abandoned place you explore, there's got to be at least ONE person in there with you. Especially Pontiac Silverdome and this place, no way you can have that big of a place that wide open without someone else being there - or knowing that you're there. Pretty brave, super enjoyable content.

I worked in the blueprint department (I don't recall what it was really called), operating the blueprint machines. I was hired by Irv Stalker who was a friend of my dad, who worked at Industrial, Experimental, and Manufacturing Company, which made all the experimental parts for the Big 3, and for American Motors. I worked there around 67-68 and was trained by Carl Smoekel, who always had a cigar either between two fingers or in his mouth. He gave the impression of being rather gruff, but he was a very kind man. I first learned how to either roll prints or to fold them properly. The originals were placed in files in my department. Carl trained me on the machines that made the copies which were a variety of sizes. The machines used ammonia as part of the process. I learned how to safely change out the tanks of ammonia. I worked there until I had to enter the U.S. Navy. I had learned it so well that Carl told me that when I return home in four years, I could have my job back. He planned to retire soon after that and said that if I was working there when he retired, he would place me in charge of that department. That did not happen as I moved to Florida when I got out of the Navy. On a side note, I was working there at the time of the Detroit riots. Some of us went up onto the roof to watch buildings burning in the distance. I wish I could find information about Carl and Irv but have had no luck doing so.

I have walked through here about 5 times on separate occasions, and i dont know why, but i do love coming here, the history this building has is an entire course of history on its own, from Nash, to Nash-Kelvinator, to the inception of AMC in 1954, and its eventual death in 1988. Id love to see this building preserved or made into an AMC museum, but in the location itd never make money. AMC did the best it could with many left over GM, Ford, and mostly Chrysler parts in its hay day, and they built some amazing cars, the history here is a sad tale of the death of automotive giant with visionary concepts, fierce competition, and bringing new ideas to the table. RIP to an underdog, American Motors Corporation.

Anton Man, I was watching just on my phone and I got scared! Totally freaky. When that noise started I was saying I hope the brother is packing Heavy! Funny thing from my perspective was that I have been in that building before, before it was abandoned. When I first started contracting for Chrysler around 1999 or 2000 Chrysler still used the building for some of it's engineering work. Can't believe what the place looks like now. I remember remarking to myself about the wrought iron stairs you walked down about how you don't see that kind of workmanship anymore. Surprised some scavenger didn't make off with them years ago. Thanks for the video. And thanks for your guts in bringing it to us! Stay cool...and safe.

@@AntonDaniels Yeah, it sure is. When I was there last, the building was only partially used, a little run down, but still quite serviceable. Can't say that now unfortunately. I was quite impressed with some of the burners you photographed, as graffiti artists have their calling too. Thanks again for the fantastic video. You really went above and beyond on that one my brother! Peace and stay cool.

Also these industrial buildings are works of art, perfectly combining practicality, usability, longevity with beauty. Albert Kahn is the architect I think, he did a lot of detroit factories.

I enjoyed the video sir but I would like to make a couple of recommendations. Get a large Mag light flashlight, the ones that use D-Cell batteries. Not only will it help you see where you are going but they can also be used for self defense. Have a small backpack in which you carry a first aid kit and some water. Exploring these places can be dangerous, if something were to go wrong it is better to be prepared. I subscribed and wish you luck in your future videos. Stay safe out there.

Love this channel, really well done. I hate when outsiders go to Detroit and make those obnoxious videos of their entitled selves stomping all over your architectural treasures just because they’re not secured. And then mangle the history because they can’t even plagiarize Wikipedia properly. Detroit is a very unique and interesting city who’s story should be told by people who are actually from there and you are doing an excellent job.

Being part of Generation X myself, all these wonderful buildings were closed during my lifetime. I remember watching "Roger and Me" in highschool after GM pulled out of Flint, MI. The Steel Mills then began to close near Gary, Indiana. I remember when being a female bank teller was a distinguished position prior to first ATM's. Now, bank tellers are no different than fast food workers for the most part. Those ladies really dressed to the 9's back in the day and we're usually married to one of the wealthy businessmen in town. So much has changed. It makes me sick that people in this country buy Honda's, Toyota's, and the like while our great country falls apart. And, they are proud of the fact that they own a foreign car. Who cares if it was built in the USA, the profits go overseas. In my family you were banished if you owned a foreign car. To this day I still own nothing but USA made vehicles from the 80's and 90's (not Mexican or Canadian GM). Mayor Daley sold a whole city block to the Chinese in Chicago, with amnesty, right before he left office. And nobody says a word. It is literally a Chinese owned country within our own borders. It's all about obscene profits for the companies and individuals which the world economy now forces them to do so. These buildings are the remnants of what once was, filled with office workers and secretaries, most working healthy 9-to-5 jobs. The only hope is that avenues such as TH-cam and the Internet will, at some point in the future, allow an average Joe to be elected into office.

TrakSpock1 The anger you have toward foreign car owners should be directed towards the management of the big three, beginning in the 70's they chose profit over quality and longtime brand loyalty, I take good care of my cars but still never got more than 100,000 miles out of one without a major engine or transmission repair/ replacement, my 95 Grand Prix needed a new motor at 80,00 but foolish me still bought a Pontiac G5 and it turned out to have a design flaw ( which GM knew about but didn't recall) that caused the timing chain to slip at around 50,000 which destroyed the engine. After all this and knowing people who were getting 200,000 + miles out of their Japanese cars I gave up and bought one.

Boat Axe, the Big Three AND their supporters have turned such a blind eye towards competition that they haven't even realized the Europeans have caught up big time. They laughed if you bought a Euro brand, saying, "It'll just turn out to be a very expensive mess." That was THIRTY years ago. Now, they've closed the gap. First European car I owned was a MINI Cooper. Poured 60,000 miles onto it and it had almost no issues. Currently driving a VW Golf and it has had no issues either. I notice that more and more of the OLDER cars in my city are European. So I went online and asked around: is your 6 or 7-year-old (insert European brand) car giving you expensive repair issues? NOPE say almost everyone who responded. My dad's Chevy Avalanche in just two years, had a door handle fail! It broke right off. I couldn't believe it but when I got home from work, I saw it. All he did was tug on it and it popped out of the hinge section! GM, you still have a long way to go. And my mom's GMC Yukon had all kinds of issues with its rear tail lights and the trunk door locks.
