This is part of the Motown era & they had a lot of hits in the 60's-80's such as "My Girl", "I Wish It Would Rain", "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)", "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone", "I Can't Get Next To You", "Treat Her Like A Lady" etc. They were known for their harmonies, choreography & dress style.
The Temptations are definitely considered arguably the greatest group of all time. Them, along with Jackson 5, New Edition, etc. Endless major, timeless classic hits they had that you guys likely heard for sure with some of them. They were at the top in the era of the best music, Classic Soul and Motown Records, which was behind all of the top Black Classic Soul acts from the 60’s like The Tempts, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, The Jackson 5, etc.
He was a great singer, not so great a human being, a little too full of himself, too much cocaine and he beat up his girl friend Tammy Terrell. The Temptation mini series is quite good and tell the story of their band, Much success, but also much tragedy
This is more of a r&b vocal group than a boy band, however, every r&b vocal group and boy band that came after the temptations till this day have patterned themselves after the temptations, so good observation
