This band is head & shoulders above any other band & is rightly considered to be the greatest rock band ever, and particularly do for their live performances. The vocals are shared with the higher notes coming from the bassist Glen Hughes, who is still (some 50 years on) still hitting these notes!
This is the Mark III version of Deep Purple. A very young David Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes on bass/vocals. I think this was California Jam from 1974. My favorite song by this version of DP is the title track from the same album: Burn. Check out the live version from this same show! Great reaction ladies!! By the way, it has been a few years since I have seen the Goodyear blimp. It might still be a thing, but I'm not 100% sure!
Yeah, its from California jam in 1974, the performance of Burn from the same show is really over the top, amazing, seen it many times, highly recommended if they havent already done it.
Deep Purple was one of my favorite bands in high school. I graduated 50 years ago in 74 so you know how long ago that was. This was one of guitarist Richie Blackmore's favorite songs to play live. He played it with his next band Rainhow. Saw them perform this song with Ronnie James Dio singing it. They say Mistreated refers to Richie's guitar because he used to destroy a guitar on-stage at the end on their shows.
Seen Deep Purple in concert n the mid 80’s … they are Awesome! The lead guitar Richie Blackmore is one of the greatest guitarist ever! Thanks for sharing! You guys rock!
You must learned that the Mark III era of Deep Purple were David Coverdale as lead vocalist (later he formed his own band called WHITESNAKE) Ritchie Blackmore on guitar (later he formed his own band called RAINBOW), Glenn Hughes on the bass and vocals, Jon Lord on keyboards, and Ian Paice on drums. But what you don't know is that the high notes on the voice part you listened in this song were made by GLENN HUGHES who plays the bass and also put the support vocals on most of the songs, putting those incredible high pitches, even when no camera was filming him. David Coverdale was mostly a baritone singer, so he made the lead vocals on every song and Hughes made the higher notes.
When I lived down in Huntington Beach, a few years back, they were still flying it. We would see it several times a year, flying over along the coastline.
Hello from New Zealand! I'm a 66 year old geriatric rocker and was brought up on the Purp's legendary music as a teenager. I've really enjoyed your reaction (Go Nana you good thing!). At one time DP were in the Guinness Book of World Records as the loudest rock band in the world, back in the 70's I believe. Can I suggest another great song from the same concert: 'Might just take your life'. BTW, I love the Southern accent.
You girls really should check out Whitesnake, but the original version. After Deep Purple split David Coverdale formed Whitesnake in 1978. Jon Lord, keyboardist, and Ian Paice, drummer, were David’s band mates in Deep Purple and joined him in Whitesnake. Neil Murray on bass, Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden on guitars and you had the BEST version of Whitesnake. It was a Blues Based sound like was the norm at the time. David Coverdale and Bernie Marsden co-wrote most of Whitesnake’s best songs. Whitesnake’s later Hairband lineup’s biggest hits were re-recorded songs from Whitesnake’s earlier albums, most of those written by David and Bernie.
Many thanks for reviewing this song from the California Jam it was a brilliant reaction I know everything revolves around LuLu but Nanna you float my boat so carry on streaming
A Goodyear Blimp flew over my school once, the only time I've ever seen one. There was a Goodyear factory in a nearby town. This is one of my favourite live performances of all time, but everything from this show is worth watching.
I love all the lineups of Deep Purple from 1968 to 1974. Each one has its own quirks and richness. I sugest a reaction video of the 1974 show for the performance of "Space Truckin'", where a furious Ritchie Blackmore literally set fire to the stage. This became one of the most epic events in Rock history and consequently, in Deep Purple's history.
The mark3 lineup. ❤❤❤❤❤. No matter what they always delivered and still do. They have a new album forthcoming Donna! Get down ladies! How i wish you could have seen them back then Lulu!
In May 2011, Goodyear announced it was replacing its fleet of non-rigid airships with three semi-rigid airships built by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin.[5][6] Wikipedia.
Child in Time from Deep Purple, the best rock song ever made in history thus far. Especially the album version Deep Purple in Rock. Ladies, another suggestion, listen to Di-rect and Kensington, De Vrienden van Amstel, amazing live version with orchestra and choir.
Hi ladies! I just found you, thought I'd hang out a bit and see how it goes. In my opinion (no, it ain't very humble) This is the Best line-up of Deep Purple of all the crew changes and this is Possibly the most heartfelt of their blues material. I love this song. You can hear it in his voice and SEE it on his face, he's FEELIN' it.

Love this song. Also recorded live by Whitesnake and Rainbow (Ritchie Bkackmore's band after Deep Purple). Ritchie Blackmore in my opinion is the best guitarist out of the well known players. That includes Jimmy Page.
You guys are great! And Deep Purple are my favourite band of all time. Do something with Biffy Clyro. Being Scottish. If you need a link, then let me know. All the best ladies 🏴xx
Check out Deep Purple - Burn Live at the California Jam 1974. Has David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes on the vocals. If you want to check out very early and more bluesy Whitesnake I suggest Love Hunter, Walking In The Shadows Of The Blues and Mean Business. Also take a look at Gillan - Mr. Universe and Fighting Man.
Same night Ritchie Smashed ABC7 Camera who got in his face!! during Space Truckin blew up some cabinets, and blew off Ian Paice glasses and Threw Ritchie about 10 feet.. 🤣🤣.
Love ir ' run right back to him ' you are minx Donna . A great Purple song sung mostly by David Coverdale who replaced Ian Gillan the original Purple vocalist. You need to get Gillan on the great classic Purple tracks.
Best version is by Rainbow (started by Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore) and the legendary Ronnie James Dio. There is wonderful footage of them performing Mistreated live in 1977. Check ot out. It's a vocal masterclass.
Seen them do it live in 78 I think. They opened the show for Foghat. Foghat was great but it's tough to top Richie Blackmore smashing a guitar on stage at the end of their set.
I disagree. Deep Purple's versions are miles better in my opinion. Especially this one from California Jam '74. Coverdale sings great here and it fits the song so well but star is Blackmore! What a tone, what a choice of notes and what a master to play almost the whole song with an out-of-tune guitar! 👍
I recommend the version with rainbow from the same song Dio was absolutely amazing at this performance in my opinion it’s the best version you must definitely check that out it will not disappoint you catch the rainbow is also great song from that same concert
This was a great performance, but awful camera work. Jon Lord, and Glen Hughes (who was the one singing those high notes) were virtually ignored, while drummer Ian Paice was only shown briefly for a few seconds. And the camera person was in love with (guitarist) Ritchie Blackmore’s back! Nevertheless, a great performance by the band, and a great reaction from you ladies! Thank you!🙂
David coverdale was still green in this performance.i think u need to watch whitesnake version when David absolutely nail this song with better range.please watch the 1983 at donnington park live version.
My mother used "Aqua Net" hairspray for about 45 years. Tease and squeeze was her motto! She could hit herself in the head and not feel it! j\k of course but you get the idea! Also they still use the "Goodyear" blimp for military and sports events! Great reaction!
Ritchie Blackmore, the guitarist, left Deep Purple in 1975 and formed Rainbow. There is a version of this song on YT live from Germany in 1977 by Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio on vocals. It’s a better version for me.
Great reaction to a great band, I suggest you try out UFO "Rock Bottom" especially the live version from the album Strangers In The Night or "Love To Love" from the same album.

@@eddhardy1054 👍Correct! Deep Purple couldn't have played ‘Lady Double Dealer’ at the California Jam because the song hadn't yet been written in April 1974 on the Burn tour. It was done four months later on the Stormbringer album released at the end of the year, and played on the following tour from November 1974 to April 1975.
Great song and love this version, but there is a cover by the guitarist's next band called Rainbow. The great Ronnie James Dio was on vocals and took it to another level. Check out Rainbow's 1977 Munich concert doing "Mistreated" and judge for yourself. Both versions are great, one is more bluesy and the other just a great vocal performance.
Even better than on the Made in Europe album (which came from the following tour and was not filmed), "You Fool No One / The Mule" were also played live at the 1974 California Jam, which was filmed in its entirety!😉
California jam.1974 Blackmore told.the cameraman not to come close to him because he needed a space Cameraman of ABC just ignored Blackmore finally smashed his guitar to the camera lens and burned the stage 😂

The great David Coverdale. Later of Whitesnake. He took over from the great Ian Gillan on vocals. Deep Purple are absolute monsters of rock.
Ian Gillian also sang for Black Sabbath after Dio left
