    Being able too zoom in/out and navigate quickly and easily, is perhaps the most important function in any DAW. Thanks for enlightening us, Greg! :-)

      Absolutely true... It could very well be the difference between feeling like giving up on music production and becoming a successful producer.

    Yes, Zoom Tool! Works almost exactly like Logic. Just what I was looking for as a recent Cubase convert.

  • @lowpie1
    @lowpie1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you for good video.
    Cubase nailed zooming almost perfectly.
    The only things I am missing is zooming vertically with mouse wheel and being able to have (temporarily) zoom tool while holding modifier keys, like in Logic or Studio One.

    • @gerhardbinkele3753
      @gerhardbinkele3753 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use the F and G-key to zoom vertically. And the scroll wheel for horizontal zooming. So I have all motions right under my fingertips with one hand at the keyboard and the other on my mouse .
      (shift + scrolling-wheel for scrolling along the project would also belong to this context ...)
      Another thing I've changed is the undo-function. I use only the Z-key for it. WHY NOT? This works perfectly fine!

    • @felixdandrea8553
      @felixdandrea8553 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Z key... I think im gonna try that. Thanks!

    • @lowpie1
      @lowpie1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I personally use Z key to zoom to selected and Shift+Z to undo zoom to previous state. It would be also nice if Zoom to selected has "toggle" state so we can use only Z, like Logic or Studio One has ability, but I am comfortable with Z Shift+Z by now.
      Cheers :)

    Vertical zoom with mouse wheel has been suggested 5 years ago. Alt + mouse wheel is still unassigned. Still waiting, Cubase! Look at Reaper.
    I also bought MX Master 2s yesterday to use side wheel function. Works really clumsy with Cubase :/

    • @kallethunell6486
      @kallethunell6486 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hear hear! I have the MX Master as well - I'm not sure it's that mouse, but I find the scroll sensitivity to be incredibly bad. Like it just takes me to the respective end of the projects. Have you found a workaround for that?

    Informative and clear -- thank you. My issue is, when I uncheck the box for horizontal only, it zooms too far in, almost to the sample level for audio; and once there, empty space is often not readily visible to double-click in. I've tried to find an alternate way to zoom back out, but often resort to using Shift+F. Any advice is appreciated! :)

    QUESTION:
    Cubase has the Ctrl + Mouse Scroll Wheel for HORIZONTAL zoom,
    but does it have a mouse behaviour setting for VERTICAL zoom
    let's say Ctrl + Shift + Mouse Scroll Wheel?

  • @skipstream2
    @skipstream2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Greg, great video, quick question . I noticed that you were vertically scrolling, probably with a mouse wheel, and it wa smooth scrolling in that each scroll movement only moved the tracks up and down a little. When I scroll with my mouse wheel (rather than the sliders) each scroll increment on the wheel makes it scroll in jumps of say 5 track heights which is jarring to the eye and means you easily lose your place in a session. It’s not a mouse setting as cubase is the only app that behaves this way with this mouse. Any ideas? On a Mac like yourself by the way. Many thanks

    Thanks Greg, I was give this video from Steinberg to help solve my Media Management issue, I forgot to SAVE AS so I had the CPR missing - so my files were not connected with the file (audio Folder), So I will try this and see if it collects all my information so I can successfully work on my project and have all the files in the correct location. I'm lucky as the recording session was with my new iMac and everything is not too far, I can also see everything in the POOL which I assume I can recover the files from that point also??? Not too sure on how to do it successfully but will try your example "Back Up Project" fingers are crossed. Thanks again for all you valuable information. Cheers Bruce

    @Cubase it seems that there are multiple comments about vertical zoom with the mouse wheel. Please reduce the uncertainty by letting it be known the comments have been acknowledged. Thanks.

    Can you talk about Cubase9.5 and Touchscreen fonctionality in the future episode ?

  • @shane_taylor
    @shane_taylor ปีที่แล้ว

    I keep coming to Cubase videos hoping to learn how to do things all my other DAWs do with ease, and in very similar fashion. Like having the pointer tool be multifunction simply by pressing a modifier to have it change to, say, the pencil tool (that could be user defined behavior as well). Or using the scroll wheel to zoom track height, like everyone is doing with soundflow on the Mac. For example, why can't we just grab and drag one end of the horizontal scroll bar to change its length and zoom the project that way. Or perhaps make the Navigator bar at the very top usable, like the one in Adobe's Audition, where you can also grab one end to zoom the window of visibility. There are so many little things that could improve the UX in Cubase. As a new user, I'm really struggling. Everything seems so non-intuitive.

    so kinda related question... i had a session where i recorded for hours... the horizontal area became so huge it got unwieldy, especially when using the zooms and horizontal scroll tab to click and drag, i click and drag it a inch back and it would go back like to areas not even close to where i want... so i did a save as and started saved as session/project so that all my input settings and what not all stayed. then i deleted out the waveforms and whatnot. but still that horizontal still has all that time/space/bars/beats in place on the horizontal and i got the same prob still. without just starting a new session so i dont have to redo all my inputs and outputs and levels... how can i reset that horizontal to only be as big as the waveforms that are in the project? oh btw i have really old cubase 5.

  • @matt_canon
    @matt_canon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel that there could be a Preferences check box named: "Enable Vertical (and Horizontal) Zoom with Mouse Scroll Wheel"
    Same command (control) modifier.
    This way, its win/win for those who prefer the default 'horizontal-only' mouse zooming.

  • @thiagopsampaio
    @thiagopsampaio 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Greg, is it possible to change mouse scroll function sensitivity inside Cubase? I use a Magic Mouse and unfortunately is totally unbearable. The zoom speeds up and I either zoom in to a complete frame, or zoom out so much that the whole session becomes so small I can barely see it. Or even remove that function?? Sometimes I press CMD to select several events, and it zooms in or out. I've reduced the magic mouse sensitivity to the lowest parameter in the mac preferences, but it's still over sensitive.

    Excuse me, can I somehow zoom with my mouse in the timeline WITHOUT moving the playback cursor? Every time I do zoom in the timeline during playback it jumps to the point I clicked in the timeline, this is driving me nuts honestly. I work in several DAWs and Cubase is unique in this matter.

    Why Do you think he said to zoom VERTICALLY use shift+G/H and didn't mention how to do it with a mouse wheel??? Because you can't zoom vertically with a mouse wheel which is a huge anchor in a typical workflow.

    pls stop being weird and just add an option with which you can zoom horizontally and vertically using your mouse wheel, both in the playlist and in the piano roll.
    simple as that, every other DAW does it

    Are you deliberately ignoring Mouse Wheel Vertical Zoom requests???
    Vertical Zoom with a Mouse Wheel is an intuitive and convenient feature implemented in every other DAW out there. This feature has been requested for several years as of June 2021. Just saying.
