Great idea. I love my Big Shot but never need to shoot higher than about 75 feet. Once I'm up, I'm climbing. I'm guessing you are climbing some giant Sequoias for research. Thanks for the ideas.
it has been good for some 210' eucalyptus at UC Berkeley, 270' old growth for, equal costal redwoods and some gigantic Ceiba trees in the tropics with first limbs over 160'. love your tree knowledge Glen!

Hi Richard. I love seeing the ingenuity of tree climbers when solving gear related problems. A little bit of frugal ingenuity saves a lot of money...and waste! I was just wondering what the approximate weight is of your modified grade stake weight/throw pod is. Also, I would surmise from your video that you're climbing east coast hardwoods. I've heard that braided spectra line, which works great for hardwoods, can cause a bit of friction and get caught up in the softer wood/bark conifers of the PNW. I think Berkley Fireline is a pretty popular option amongst conifer climbers out west. Can you confirm or deny this through your experience? Thanks!
This was very useful for some old growth Douglas Firs in Oregon lowest Branch was 155 feet also measured some 210-foot eucalyptus at Berkeley and lots of very tall trees in Central and South America. The steel weight worked well at about 6 oz.
+James Hirst I did in the past. Seems I remember it being around 75 pounds of pull force. The question came up about the security of the archery trigger. The trigger is capable of MUCH more than that.
