  • In this video we discussed about the Submandibular or digastric triangle of neck. here we discuss the location, boundaries and contents of digastric triangle.
    Anterior Triangle
    Boundaries
Anterior: Anterior median line of the neck.
Posterior: Anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
Base: Lower border of the body of mandible and a line extending from the angle of mandible to the mastoid process.
Apex: Suprasternal notch at the meeting point between anterior border of sternocleidomastoid and anterior median line.
Anterior triangle has been subdivided, by the digastric muscle and superior belly of omohyoid muscle, into the following 3½ triangles.
    1. Submental triangle (half only).
    2. Digastric (submandibular) triangle.
    3. Carotid triangle.
    4. Muscular triangle.
    Digastric triangle
It is so named because it is located between the two bellies of the digastric muscle and below the base of the mandible.
    Boundaries
    ------------------
    anteroinferiorly: anterior belly of digastric
    posteroinferiorly: posterior belly of digastric
    base: mandible
floor: mylohyoid, hyoglossus and middle pharyngeal constrictor
roof: skin, superficial fascia, platysma and deep fascia
    Contents
    --------------
anterior part of the triangle contains the submandibular gland
posterior part of the triangle contains the lower part of the parotid gland
facial artery is deep to the submandibular gland and the facial vein lies superficial to the gland submandibular lymph nodes are situated near the gland external carotid artery lies deep to the parotid gland before entering it. It is separated from the internal carotid artery by the styloglossus and stylopharyngeus muscles and the glossopharyngeal nerve deep to the external carotid artery are the internal carotid artery, internal jugular vein and the vagus nerve lying on the mylohyoid muscle are the submental and mylohyoid arteries and nerves the hypoglossal and mylohyoid nerves are also found in the digastric triangle
