Tony I just wanted to drop a little encouragement.. I absolutely love your channel and your knowledge is top notch.. Thank you for all of your research and hard work because it obvious you put a ton of research into what you do. Also it is very apparent that you have just as much experience with these bikes as you do learning about them so thank you brother and keep on making bangers

You definitely have an audience in me when it comes to these steel frames YZF’s. I grew up on this era of bikes, particularly 2002 YZ426F. Something about the 98-05 four strokes strikes a chord

The blue steel frame was such a beautiful look miss that era

Man, I've got a 2005 WR250F. I still use it for enduro races. Most of my friends love my bike. Calling a 2003 a classic, You're getting to close for comfort.
I LOVE my 5 valve engine.

I was racing my 04 yz450f in 2016 and getting holeshots regularly. Thing was absolutely gnarly and never any headshake. Very confidence inspiring and capable machine on the track.

Seems like i recall some pf the offroad racers swapping cams from the wr450 to tame it down some along with flywheel weights. Anynody else remember that?

    Awesome video!
    I own the 2000 yz426f 🤘
    EDIT: I now own a 2001 yz426f. Better than the 2000 yz426f.

I just bought a bike with my own money for the first time it was a 05yz450f and I've been researching and learned they put the same motor from the 03 one into all of them till 05 or something and it clicked in my head when you talked about the decompression stuff in the motor because sometimes I'll barely rest my boot on the kick starter and it kicks over

You should do an 06-07 450 shootout recap!

Great review, I have one that I bought 10 years ago and I can compare it to some newer bikes I have rode.
Of course for motocross it's not comparable with new bikes, because has a lot of torque and power, isn't smooth and it feels heavy on air.
First I have some upgrades on it to match my riding style and type of riding, I ride cross-country and Baja with she, for MX it feels heavy on air, but on the ground it feels lightweight, and is really lightweight, I measured and it's 107kg with the gas tank full.
Suspension - low friction bushings and seals, front suspension reduced the highspeed damping on compression and rebound.
Braking brake discs front and rear.
OEM KTM front brake pads with steel line (good combo for strong and progressive feeling, the KTM pads make it more progressive)
    Aluminum low profile bar
Engine mods- reduced exhaust length for reduced torque on mid-range, richer jetting to prevent stalling on low rpm, and to cool down on high revs, it improved even more the top end power. 17:43 17:43
The engine comparing to the Husqvarna FX 450 has more power everywhere, on top are almost similar, but the torque on the 5valve has no match! Forget, not comparable with any other 450 I have rode, but all that torque is simply too much for MX tracks.
But isn't smooth like new bikes, the crankshaft counterweight it was not perfectly balanced to remove all the vibration (2006 and up are more smooth and had less vibration)
The chassis seems that was designed for Baja style races, It never shakes on high speed, it's simply incredible. It's stable and it soaks big bumps and big stuff, it's crazy the way it soaks some big hits, on small hits the newer suspension are more reactive on the front.
For me, this is the best chassis/ engine for Baja.
Because of my riding and the 4 gear I use 14/41 transmission, the speed I don't know, but it's comparable with OEM xc bikes. With less gears😅
I simply love it and I don't plan to sell it for a new one.

Added GYTR flywheel which was the stock weight on 2004 and unhooked the TPS and this tamed the motor out. I unhooked at practice in my second race and never hooked it back up. Won almost every moto that year on that bike

This bike was a beast. I could never get a good start with that four speed gearbox for some reason. monster power, when geared it down a tooth in back it was much better

I just bought the 2004 YZ450F. Holy SH"# I can't believe how brutal this machine is. I thought the Yz426f was the all time beast.. Nope.
