This has got to be one of the best airplane videos in TH-cam. I don't usually like music soundtracks in airplane videos but this one went very well, it was an excellent choice. Thumbs up for the novel idea and first-class video.
This might be one of the most amazing and beautiful videos I’ve ever seen. I had to retrain my brain to see them as planes zipping into the picture instead of birds. It’s so cool to see how the wake turbulence affects the planes... you can tell that the plane coming after the 747 felt it!
They do not wobble just the pilots adjusting their alignment to the runway, the video is also playing at several times its normal speed hence exegerating
They are 3 to 5 miles apart depending on the size of the plane, 3 miles laterally, or 1,000 feet vertically apart, although it dose not seem that way. 5 Mile rule is applied laterally. You can see them backing up. Every 45 Seconds they take off and land at heathrow. 1. Heavy behind heavy- 4 miles. 2. Large/heavy behind B757- 4 miles. 3. Small behind B757- 5 miles. 4. Small/large behind heavy - 5 miles. 1,400 flights take off and land - one every 45 seconds and nearly half a million per year. Nice Video.
Actually Heathrow have a dispensation to go down to 2.5nm longitudinal separation once established on the ILS, subject to wake turbulence criteria, and you can measure it with a micrometer....
Honestly, it's the soundtrack that makes this video what it is. The actual footage is amazing of course, but it's the music that makes me somehow enthralled watching multi-million dollar silver birds falling with style into an airport.
I don't understand how anyone can dislike this, especially if you are an aviation enthusiast! It's like watching birds in a mechanical sense... mans own interpretation of flight! This is outstanding, thank you for sharing :)
Wow, it really makes you appreciate the power of the wind. I didn't realize that airliners were pushed around so much by crosswinds. Was it an especially windy day or did the conditions seem pretty normal to you?
Well done! Always wanted to see this. Love seeing the lower altitude affect of wind and turbulance on the aircraft. Thank you. RWG Denver, Colorado, USA
Stunning! Beautiful! It's like a dance, partly choreographed and partly improvised... an absolute favorite in this household So many of us want to know where the music comes from... to me it sounds French, somewhat reminiscent of Eric Satie. Please enlighten us, Cargospoptter!
Wow! This is my favorite video on youtube! That 747 at 1:30 got blown all over the place! You can see the pitch attitude increase at level-off on that 777 at 2:10 - very cool!
That really is astounding and has a distinctly unreal aspect to it. Very cool, indeed! Also, it does help in that those few UFOs that have touristed this Wash DC area usually attract my eye at night by a seemingly gyroscopically smoothness of flight with the micro deviations of our aircraft. This video shows these constant microdeviations very well, so I appreciate and consider this very valuable whether we agree on the reality of "other" craft from "other" places or not.
I appreciate this video for provideing a steady platform view, where I could decern over a brief time, the invisible electronic horizontal and vertical track on final approach to the runway.(loc and gs). Once I got it, I was able for the first time, to accurately visualize the net effect of the crosswind on the planes, by watching the the clouds passing by. So like these guys, for more than 40 years I've never truely been on track but for the brief moments passing through it. Nice catch... -cap
@@whophd I don't know. He must have gotten nailed with a bunch of turbulent sidewinds or something? Or perhaps it was a sloppy hand-flown visual approach while all the other aircraft were following the ILS (or flying a more accurate hand-flown approach). There is no way to know.
Yeah, he's a little high on the profile, but he gets it sorted by 2:03. Just leave the power at idle for a bit and get those flaps out and you'll get it to drop down onto the proper glidepath... as long as ATC hasn't brought you in WAY too high with a "slam dunk" approach.
OMFG! genius genius genius!!! i absolutelly love this!! great idea and geat camera motion! if only it hadn't those two swipes/interruptions it would be perfect!!! congrats, big up!!
Can't see the difference between speeding up and time lapse when a movie is edited for. The video is just the same between both options, is that right Cargospotter? The 2-hour interval was definitely edited (e.g. for some unexpected gaps between landings) in terms of either accelerating or deleting of some useless frames. True?
If you watch some of his other videos (like the Heathrow go around runway closed video) he tells the viewer that he is speeding a video up by 17x. He then slows it down to normal time.
I still remember, when I was in Phoenix(7 years ago), I used to park the car near end of the runway and wait for flights to descent and was very to eager to see from which side the next flight will come and join on the runway descent queue...old memories
That was REALLY interesting, especially w/speeding up the vid. I must say the music was a bit morbid for my taste, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment. Thx for posting this different perspective...Nate- Pittsburgh ;-)
