    Glad you did a review of this jacket. Everyone I know who was issued one swears by them. Sucks that they don’t issue them a lot unless you’re deploying or in aviation.

    I'm on my second one, thankfully I've been issued them and haven't had to pay for them but for some reason mine wear out quickly, it starts with with stictching coming undone, then the color fades rapidly on the elbows, cuffs and pen pockets. I do wash mine and do follow the manufacturers washing directions but they still fade. Don't get me wrong I love it and being Security Forces and outside nearly all day every day it is a great cold weather jacket to have but they do seem to wear out quickly for me. Probably gonna bother supply for another one again soon.

    I was issued one of these and I'm underwhelmed with it at it's price point. I wasn't aware it was waterproof though, that might change my mind on it. Do you know if it is just a waterproof treatment? Because I've washed mine a few times and the slick, krinkly feeling has lessened significantly.

    • @isaachousley325
      @isaachousley325 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It only cost that much because of the FR rating. If you are trying to compare quality and features at different price points, consider this jacket to be in the 180 to 250 range. As for the waterproofing, supposedly the massif elements is a membrane layered type fabric, but is also claimed to be a softshell. I would say that there probably is some sort of DWR treatment that needs routine reapplication.

    Maybe in Hawaï that fleece from the ecwcs is wearable as an outer layer, wind goes right through that thing!!! Pretty useless as an outer layer.

  • @sillyshrapnel
    @sillyshrapnel ปีที่แล้ว

    Does anyone out there know of a reasonably priced OCP winter coat that's in regs? The fleece option is pretty much just a sweater. I honestly just want something like a simple Carhartt jacket for the winter months but definitely don't need/want a $700 parka lol. I don't care about fire resistant and all that crap, I just want to stay warm. There has to be some kind of middle ground.

      Ecwcs gen iii, all it takes is learning how to use it. The biggest thing is not trying to dress for all conditions and activity levels all with one set up.

      @@RB-xv4siFREE was tested and initially fielded with three outer layers: LWOL, IWOL, AND EWOL (light, intermediate, and extreme respectively). They were roughly equivalent to wind jacket, soft shell, and hard shell. The army ended up dropping the LWOL level from the FREE system, but its still offered commercially by Massif.
