  • Originally i wanted to take you along with making small splits from all the beehives in this apiary, but this hive was that far into swarming mode it needed immediate attention. Nonetheless this is still a video about making small splits to prevent early swarming. I checked the hive today(didn't film it, sorry) and the swarming mode has totally passed.

The bees make more hive by making swarms and rather waiting for the swarm to come, beekeepers often maken artificial swarms also called splits to make more hives 😊

I hope you are able to show your small spits into the even smaller nuc boxes. Would you do the same with the smaller nucs that are only only 2, 3 or 4 frame +feeder? I am interested in keepers opinions on "mini splits" as a way to maximize growth in ones apiary the first season with out overly impacting the foundation colonies growth.

Thinking ahead to the end of the nectar flow...I was thinking about the times I've had finding my robbing screen and my staple gun and installing it in the middle of a full-on robbing scenario, I am always concerned about losing the foragers who didn't have the benefit of learning the new entrance location. I wonder if, when the flow is over and I begin to feed, that maybe I should put the screens on before robing begins and simply leave them on till the beginning of winter. What do you think?

If you are almost sure there will be robbing then i would put the screens on before it starts. I never used robbing screens, i always adjust the size of the entrance to the size of the hive. And try to keep about similar size hives in the apiary after the nectar flow
