I worked for about a year on an explosives crew but they was only the 2 of us. We did high walls in the rock quarry very similar to this and also road construction. I sure learned alot during that time there is alot of skill and experience that goes into doing this work. Hole placement proper charges for the material being shot and most importantly the sequence of placement of delayed caps that trigger the shot. In this video seems a few of these shots was a might overloaded. But I will say if you have wet holes being over loaded is a common occurrence. In a wet hole ANFO can't be used so extra gell sticks and TNT are used to compensate thus giving bigger bang than a hole with ANFO plus the water increases the shock wave.
hey Fred Levine great video by the way this is another one of my all time favorite scenes from the house construction ahead vhs and dvd I loved this growing up as a kid and I still love it today I also loved the music in this scene growing up as a kid to and I still love it today to by the way thanks for uploading this video thanks
I really enjoyed your video, it brought back a lot of good memories with my dad, Ray Simmons, on blast sites, I even had my own little hard hat as a kid.
Wow look at the size of the boosters. Western Australia we would get away with 150grm bosster to set of reoflex slurry . I was a shot firer until I could not blow any more up. Just another job gotta be on the ball
Good video presentation. However as a professional, I will advise the blasting crew to have a complete set of PPE while on duty. The crew were shabbly dressed as if they were working in a cattle ranch.
Hi Ralus. The video is my thing, so thank you! As for what attire or gear the blasting crew wears, I have no say in that, I'm just appreciative that they grant me access for the shoot.
Care to explain what all they should be wearing? I start mining and minerals engineering in the fall. I'm excited. I want to be over the explosives portion one day. Be it lithium mine or aggregates. (These are the two I'm most into. Not coal despite my hometown being connected to coal.)
The safety culture here would not pass muster for a Mine site. MSHA would have a heart attack and then write a million dollars in citations. Shorts? Really? OMG I cant believe the explosives handling or better yet lack of handling. This is making me gasp for air after being in the strict world of mining for 12 years.
Not much control there , a lack of stemming, you would be kicked out of most quarry sites for lack of safety, poor fragmentation, fly rock the list is endless. Otherwise a good video of what not to do.
Hi Alex. Thanks for writing, which initiated me watching the blasting scene in House Construction Ahead, which I enjoyed. Over the years I've received many detailed critical comments on the blasting procedures shown in my movies, but I was a guest on the shooting locations, had absolutely no control over what my hosts did and these were not training videos. My concern was one and only one, being safe and getting great shots, and editing them all together with great music to make a compelling scene for children, and I must say, I believe that absolutely I achieved that goal.
@@LittleHardhats Hi Fred, thanks for your reply. I had the largest blast in Northern Europe, take a look at Bremanger Quarry big blast. No one in industry says "lift off" Why would you use a sound clip from a spaceship launch. That's so lame. Imagine seeing this as a kid, going into the industry and saying "lift off" everyone would laugh at you.
Wow this couldn’t be more 90’s if it tried

Hi Carter, happy to hear that. I used to sell a ton of hard hats for kids. My blasting scenes were very popular.
Thanks for uploading, this is really good animation study reference.

Thank god for the invention of theANFO mixer. Flyrock not a problem here.Must be the USA
ANFO is more likely to produce flyrock then Dynamites. ANFO has very rapid gas expansion.
The music was so fire back then!
