Amazingly strong hands where every single note rings out flawlessly. I'm always moved no matter what the piece.
So true , people don't realise how hard his music is to play until they learn it note for note , Tommy is big on sustain, melody and and technique. Every note has to ring out to sound right.
I just saw an interview on YT where he talked about hand strength, flexible knuckles etc., really interesting. If I had bookmarked it I'd paste the link..

Beautiful. Tommy Emmanuel. No cleaner guitar player, picker, strummer, anywhere, period.
What I always loved about Chet Atkins was that through his fine playing, his personality came out. There is a smile, a passion, and a seriousness all rolled into to one. Tommy Emmanuel exhibits all of this. He is a master craftsman. Above all that, he still finds ways to reach for just the right notes. He finds them, and controls every nuance of them. He pairs them, and has the uncanny ability to play and position them. Each day, a new way.
As a guitarist, and finger picker myself, I can tell you, what he plays is not easy, but Tommy will sure take the time to show you.
Thank you Mr. Emmanuel for reminding us what is good in the world.
I'm a huge Tommy Emmanuel fan, but he isn't unmatched anymore. There is another highly talented guitarist you should check out. Look up Luca Stricagnoli, for another mind bending audio experience. Enjoy.
@@Shepshop1620Thanks! I'm aware of Luca's works, and the many instruments in which he plays and commands such wonderful technique. Still, I stand by my comment. There is no over production with Tommy Emmanuel. Just a condenser microphone, that doesn't hide his dynamics or his fluidity in front of an audience. Sure, there's always some post production processing that takes place with such artists at times. However, Luca Stricagnoli's videos are often so overwhelmingly aided with processed treatment (compressors, exciters,. and limiters). Still, he is quite a talent in his own right. Brilliant. But as clean, and naturally prolific finger picking in front of a mic/live audience? It's not even close ; ) Tommy's control of harmonics is otherworldly. Luca seems to have excellent tapping technique which he exhibits a bit more. Too much tapping tends to get a bit boring. JMO.

I've just learnt this song on guitar. It's the easiest to play out of all of his songs and great for beginners still tough though lol. Took me 2 months to learn it.

I just walked in the door from seeing Tommy live for the first time, and had to turn this on immediately. I've never been to a show that sent me through such a range of emotions, and his story about writing this song was incredibly poignant. Easily the greatest performer I've ever seen. Thank you for sharing your gift Tommy.

The absolute brilliance of this song, is that you can hear 2 guitarists. While one plays the melody, you can another strum chords. Yet it’s just one guy with hands like wings. Years spent listening to this man, yet i still end up surprised at his skill. A song for a rainy day, yet I listen to it on a rare scottish summer day. Thank you for all you ever do tommy.

Honestly I could play JUST as GOOD as Tommy Emmanuel, IF I would just learn to read the music.. Then I would know what tones go with what other tones. We got the same instrumental vibe same type of rythm(s) just he's had alot more practice "obviously" and HE can read music and know what Uncommon notes go with common notes!! Hope as good as you Emmanuel, one day. You inspire me.
He CAN'T read music. He admitted that on tedx.
He is self taught with incredible ear and rhytm sense.
And there is always a physical part - he has flawless coordination and DECADES of practice. He started playing when he was around 5..

Saw him live in Nashville, was aware of who he was, but wasn't ready for the emotions that I felt when he walked onto the stage and began to play. Tears welled up, it was over. Absolute incredible. Blew me completely away
