- Evan Ferguson joined West Ham United on loan during the January transfer window and James Ward-Prowse returned from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest in order to strengthen the squad for Graham Potter but is this a strategy from The Hammers or a failure to sign anyone on a permanent transfer? Geo and Frankie discuss!

The best bit of business we did, this window was sacking J-Lo and replacing him with Potter. Almost overnight, every player in the squad has improved.
💯
It’s about the results at the end of the day, not trying to over criticize Potter but this is the part we need to see changes
Give him time, will come good
If it was about results we would have kept Moyes. I'm happy to be patient if I can see we are improving @@kason2587
@@kason2587 Results from performance.. Particularly in the long term
Frankie is bang on, give Potter the tools and he will deliver. How is it the likes of Fulham and Brentford can get quality players in for a fraction of what West ham pay for average players? if our new management can address that issue we will surely be a steady top six team.
Because they take 10m players and make them 50m players with good management. Something potter has done at Brighton before.
Sullivan running his gob every transfer window..
We do that too.
We take a 50 million pound player and turn him I to a 10 million pound player.
It's a gift from the gods!
That has nothing to do with the management it's our owners. Sullivan interfering in transfers is our biggest issue.
Most of the bids were not realistic bids so I don’t think the club had any intentions of making the signings .
Surprised at the Soucek and Irving criticism- thought they were better than many of the partnerships we have seen all season.
Right?? The worst midfield pairing in recent years?! Did he not watch any west ham last season?
Soucek and Irving both did great. I agree Irving was tiring but no way was that a bad combination. Ward Prowse is not a step up on either.
Did Frankie not see what Soucek provided in that game? Your looking at 3-1 or 4-1 without him on that pitch against Chelsea. He needs to look at some of the other players. He does a solid 90 mins week in and week out and rarely lets us down. Irving and these other youngsters are good to see, but don't expect a 90 mins out of any of them.
Really liked Frankie until that Irving/Soucek comment 😂
Our ”official” West Ham podcast here in Sweden had a guest previous to the last show who played under Potter in Östersund. He gave a really good insight in how Potter is as a coach and as a person. Was a really good listen. Considering its swedish I cant recommend you guys listening to it unless you can get some sort of a translation on it. However he was lyric about Potter both as a coach and person. Got a really good feeling listening to it!
Frankie is right this club has never had a strategy other than moving away from Upton Park. We just lurch from manager to manager and no recuitment consistency.
Kudus “greedy at times” encapsulates my frustrations. Needs to lay off or finish more effectively. But also agree; works hits guts out.
Like everybody else I was disappointed that way, only signed Evan Ferguson, but now I’m really pleased that we’ve got a good first team with a very good striker
I see the straight loan for Ferguson is a win-win. If he breaks down or fails to develop, we are not obligated to buy, but if he shines, yes we may not be able to sign him long-term, but his success will attract more young developing strikers to Potter and West Ham
Probably going to finish between 11th - 17th, optimistic with Potter and Makauley going forward happy to keep our powder dry and save funds for the summer window, injured players to come back the return of JWP and loan of Ferguson who personally would be very risky as an acquisition in the summer with his injury record, Cheers lads ⚒
Ferguson will potentially worry opponent defensive line(similar to Antz)occupy & drag their focus leaving channels for runs and attacks,it’s effective attack strategy that WHU haven’t recently had.
Let's have an FPL update next week Geo & Frankie 🙌💯
Great show as always, Geo, and with the players coming back, Potter will have a headache but in a good way COYI ⚒️
Thanks William and I agree, shame as was looking forward to Summerville but am intrigued as to what he does with Bowen - I want to see him in that right sided number 10 position.
Frankie does such at great job of analyzing things... well done!
What I love about Potter is that I finally feel a connection with the team. Honestly, the last time I felt close to the team was when we won the conference league. The last year of Moyes felt odd and I certainly didn’t feel it under Lopeturgid
The only frustrating thing since potter has come in is these injuries we keep picking up.. it seems one in one out at the moment and its a real shame we havent been able to see what Potter can really do. But so far, so good
Always enjoy yours and Frankies chats
Thanks mate, genuinely appreciate you tuning in as well as taking the time to write a nice comment!
What’s wrong with Kudus is that he holds the ball too much and in the wrong places. I think he’s worked hard since Potter took over
Agreed
Yep, annoys me kudus is looking for the star pass rather than the dimple early lay off
I don’t see any reason to have brought Rodriguez on as a sub for Irving. Not this season. As this is one extended preseason, we need to play the kids and both find out what they can do, and give them exposure to higher opposition. If we don’t do that, then we render the next three months completely meaningless. Guido is going to leave in three months, there’s no need to play him unless we’re short players.
Once we get to 36-40 points and fully avoid relegation, would love to see Potter fully implement his style, and blood fully Casey, Orford and Scarles and maybe someone else from the academy, and start them rather than 10 min or 20 min cameos.
Can see reasons why our window turned out the way it did.
I do think we are strapped for cash but at the same time there are plenty of reasons for taking our time and waiting for the summer. Lots of clubs looking for a forward and very few did much business. Ferguson deal is a good one for us. But proof will be in the summer if this was a window of strategy or necessity.
Ferguson potentially is a fantastic addition but we will still have bugger all to come off the bench to effect games where we need something different
It’ll be interesting to see how well he can bring in our attacking midfielders with his hold up play.
Guilherme?
I’d love to see him given a proper chance. How about you?
@@AndrewStone-x5g Same, I just have a horrible feeling that this level is too much for him at 18/19 - feel sorry for him tbh, not his fault he had the price tag
Absolutely agree. My thinking is that with such an amount as an investment it’s mad to let him rot on the bench with close to no appearances in the U21 either. At his age he needs to be playing, no excuses with PL2 space available, not ideal but better than sitting down.
Astonishing that any fan criticised Kudus for lack of effort. What the hell were they watching?
I like JWP coming back as I really think that Loppy was holding him back..
Geo, did we get any explanation on Alvarez’ absence for the Chelsea game. I thought Gonzo hinted at something but did get say anything in this regard. Thanks.
He got injured in training
@ do we know length of time out?
Love it when Frankie is on ⚒️
I think he's an absolute moron.
Happy with transfer business. Club played well against Chelsea, by 15 th should have Alvarez, pacqueta , Ferguson, ward prowes and maybe Todibo to add to squad. Save our money until summer
Kidus might have worked hard, but nearly every time he tackled and won the ball he wasted it almost immediately.
The last few seasons Liverpool have caused long-term injuries to 4 of our better players
It was an underwhelming window hopefully Ferguson stays healthy and can contribute but I'd rather Potter use what he's got and see who can do a job under him then move on the deadwood over the summer and hopefully have a good amount to spend rather than blowing a good chunk in the winter window when prices go up?
I believe they did it on purpose as we're pretty much safe from relegation but too far away to get into the European places, if we end up inside the top 10 it will pay for the loan and give us a bit more spending money for the summer when we have a big cleanout.
Geo has it in one, the club has purchased time, with Ferguson loan deal. But, if he stays fit and then scores a goal a game, Potter might have a word in Sully's ear.
Thanks, gentlemen thanks
Soon as netto came on you knew he would target Emerson and yet when he did bring scarles on he was able to pretty much contain him maybe a change to match netto would have been quicker scarles is pretty rapid
I think we should go for Ivan Toney.. I'm sure he wants to come back to the Prem
He can’t really. Due to tax it would have severe complications - it’s why Steven Gerrard may have to wait 3 months before returning
I agree Frankie Kudus played very well
Stats suggested Soucek was on form and Irving did well.
JWP not world class...but definitely a premier league player felt he was extremely capable, versatile and hard working last season.....would always be in my match day squad.
Other than a couple of misplaced passes I thought Kudus had a very good game, our most energetic, attacking threat.
I’m calm about it just knowing if we had 3 or 4 of the players that are injured in the squad we would have probably smashed Chelsea .. in the summer we need to replace a load of players but the problem is we need quality depth in the squad.. injuries destroy us and we have a weak bench
Feyenoord’s Santiago Giminez would be my No1 striker target in the summer absolute class.
Moved to AC Milan the day before TDD
@ what a shame☹️
Funny how we won the transfer window by not signing anyone permanently. "Winning" in this case means not spending necessary vast amounts of money that can better be spent in the summer.
Its the january window nothing really happens, deals are difficult as players you want arent available till the summer. Potter wants to see from now and until the end of the season, who he will keep and who he needs to shift. Realistically we are not getting a european spot, its just about implementing Potters style of football and maybe finishing in the top 10 and in front of Everton.
Pleased rhe Guilherme transfer to Porto didn't go through whether by luck (needed to be in Portugal by midnight, was on the pitxh at Chelsea at 10pm!) or design.(Potter wanting to keep him).
Question Bowen to Liverpool your thoughts
David Sulevan has never backed any manager IE coach with the right tools. ,,,,I’m afraid to say,,, he never will,,
How does summerville being injured cause us to sign evan ferguson
Not really what I said though, I suggested it may have encouraged us to agree to a loan without the option to buy, for reasons explained.
@ two different positions we wanted a striker when summerville was still fit
@ I know but I’ve explained why I think it may have impacted it, we will have to agree to disagree
Wasn't andre silva. Successful window!!!
I think potter is calling the shots regarding the transfer strategy. He wants to work with what he’s got but probably said we need a striker. And we got Ferguson! So all good in my book. Summer is when the real signings will come.
I have to say I disagree with your definition of “on the fence”. Cambridge defines it as “not able to decide something” so I would say Frankie was using it correctly
But he hasn’t been able to decide due to lack of evidence or conflicting evidence - it’s very much used against people to suggest they won’t decide and/or staying neutral for sake of it.
I guess the issue is majority of people use it incorrectly in the comments section.
@ I haven’t personally heard it used like that but I’m aware you read quite a few more comments than me 😂😂 so I’ll definitely take your word for it
I'm upbeat geo that we got linked with 2 or 3 big players midfield and upfront. Any other time we would be sixth best option. It looks like potter will only except his standard of players. 🎉
Like I said before my son in law is a Brighton fan and he has told me they have signed a new striker on a pre season for the summer so looks like they are preparing for the worst if Fergie comes in
That striker is fantastic, I wanted him at West Ham, think he will go on to be a top player
@ they just another player today called bishcoff 😂 you couldn’t make it up
This weekend watch the mighty Leyton Orient play Man C
There is never a lot of business done in the January window you only buy in January if you are desperate. If you can you buy in the Summer then you have a lot more time to work with the team
Soucek might be placed on the bench for JWP. Neither have great speed in the middle, but JWP is much better with ball distribution.
and JWP is defensively much worse than Soucek , doesnt read the game well, and poor in the air ..... no way should he replace Soucek, or anyone else in a defensive role
@ ummm, will have to agree with you there. JWP will put tons of pressure on Alvarez.
Same old story - phantom bids……
Very true. It’s just annoying when somebody (Sullivan in this instance) thinks that they’re clever and everyone else is simple. It’s so hard to understand why he thinks his actions are necessary while it is clear to see his behaviour is that of a child.
How are the transfers handled now ? Does anyone know ? Why did kretinsky invest ? Couldn’t he invested more and declined ? Is there a land deal coming up or any motive to build their own stadium? That’s a few ideas for next week if you like 🎉….
The kudus hate at the moment is really bad.
He gives 100% almost every game.
People are worried too much about his G/A
I gnerally agree with frankie but his opinion on irv and tom is bang wrong
Cray wanderers ? Watched them lose to billericay 2-1 last Saturday
Seriously, so many people whinging about the buy clause…who cares???
We just needed a body in, he’s got a bit of form, is cheap as chips and that will do
If he does well, we will be in prime position in the summer to get him and that’s that…we won’t be paying stupid money for him, if he wants to come he can tell Brighton’s only wants to come to us and that puts us in the driving seat
People find stuff to moan about all the time
Ok everyone hear me out, if we were to win 6 out of the next 7 games, would EVERYONE still be saying there is no way we can make Europe? Look at the next 7 games and tell me, it’s not possible. I think if we are healthy and only without Summerville and Fulkrug, Potter can win 6 out of the next 7. Only Arsenal being the loss. God I hope I’m right.
The problem with the Soucek + JWP combination was not Soucek...
Yes well theres a old saying if you can,t take it don,t give it 😅
Question: Have either of you been to Australia? Would you visit here if you haven't yet ? 😂
The window was a joke. So many targets but just got a loan 🤷♂️
No Irn Bru mug for Frankie then
How about a new training ground, new physios and better doctors? Give me those in a window and I’ll do handstands
JWP can cross the ball, and Ferguson can head it...fool proof strategy to me. Just to need to work out what position JWP can occupy to wand the ball into the box....right wing back...ooh not sure about that one, but no doubt that's why im commenting on this video, instead of taking a strategy meeting at Rush Green.
There’s no strategy with Sullivan in charge , Ferguson was given to us by Brighton , no business done , same old crap , you are going to have the same discussion of a non strategy at the beginning of next season
I'm guessing we wanted to get certain players in but wasn't willing to pay the asking price. And in the same respect, maybe some desirable's didn't want to come here (idiots!)
But I'll put my house on the fact that many of the transfer rumors weren't true and some of the 'interests' shown by WHU, were never going to end up as a genuine purchase.
I've never been a lover of mid-term (money-making) transfer windows. I find they can be destructive to a team's moral and just act as another distraction during the festive period.
For instance; we've had managerial change to discuss in depth and Cup & big games to talk about but mostly, we followed the 'Before, During & After' fake transfer news instead!
bit concerned that people dont think we can get dragged into relegation battle. Shambles we were so late to change Head Coach and Technical Director. What a wasted season
Swings and roundabouts, I find it concerning people think we could still get relegated!
@ is it 1 win in 7 or something like that
@ yes but even if we only won 2 games and lost 12, Leicester need 16 points from 14 and that’s not happening.
I know this is a bit of pedantry, but it’s ‘Tosin’, as in to test something gingerly, not ‘Tosin’ as in what you would do with a… let’s say salad.
One finished one injury prone
Soucek and Irving !!!! One game. Rodriguez would not help. Are you mad ? Soucek and JWP were bad all of last season. Neto played 45 mins, you have a habit GEO of stating minutes for players that affect games. 45 minutes is plenty of time to change a game. However like you said Irivng should have come off earlier and that would have given Orford more time to bed in. Potter has been a bit slack in his subs of late, leaving it 10/15 minutes to late.
Blew the cash flow on sacking JLo.
Soucek + JWP was far worse last season than Irving + Soucek vs Chelsea imo. Hopefully Potter improves JWP so they can play together
It’ll be interesting to see how Potter’s tactics get more out of JWP whichever he’s midfielder partner is.
Or not play either…
Either JWP and who?
Chelsea would have been there for the taking if it wasn’t for their 12th man the referee!!
I think West Ham will be in a relegation battle.
Ferguson wants to play. Jwp is an asset
naa naa naa not having that Guido craic Frankie no way haha
God he’s so negative and annoying gunna have to stop watching anything with Frankie
