It could've been a lot cheaper if they'd left off the faces, the trail, and the spaceship. While we're at it, it could've been even cheaper if they'd left off the instructions and the box as well.

I didn't need the wall of heads, but the smoke trail makes the set for me.
I like the set. The rocket is cool. Love the blasting off with the colors and billows of smoke. But I don’t have to be represented. Just give me 2 mini figs to fit in the rocket.

Ironically the only thing I want is the wall of heads. I collect flesh-tone minifigures for creating DnD characters, and it's quite hard to get them because they only come in licensed products and I generally don't want the licensed products (Harry Potter is okay for a fantasy setting but I've got so many bespectacled heads at this point that I could create a continent of scarred, short-sighted children). So just getting a wall of heads by itself would be *perfect* for me.

I'm pretty positive the wall of phriends are Pharrell's actual friends made as Lego heads. I don't think it's meant for people to find a face that looks like them
It can be two things at once. It's definitely meant for people to find faces that look like them. MOC makers are often complaining because Lego makes very few flesh tone heads and even fewer ones representing POC.
I also think the same way about that "Wall of Phriends."
Given that the _Piece by Piece_ biopic has all of these new Minifigure designs based on real world music artists, I wonder if this is The LEGO Group's way of adapting them into physical Minifigure form on a budget; just give us the face prints (the most important part), and let the fans fill in the rest of the Minifigure with their own parts.
@@joevictor53 It really is difficult at times. Especially when you're looking for head prints of different colors that have glasses, or wrinkles, or a mustache, or a beard. The lack of variety starts to become apparent really fast.

I could care less about the rocket, but new flesh-colored Lego heads are perfect for my Lego city. (I prefer the flesh-tones to yellow, yeah I'm weird I know)
I'm inclined to agree. I feel like if I had this displayed in my house, it would be awkward to explain to someone what they were looking at if they were unfamiliar with the set.

It's pretty easy! Just say something like, "That's a space shuttle blasting off to the Outer Space and the exhaust, as you can see, is highly stylized. Some propa artistic sXXt, eh?!" And the people would go, "Hmmm!!" And then you'd add, "Pretty decent display piece, doncha think?" And they'd go again, "Hmmm!! Quality!! ........ BUT!!! ... Can you detach the spacecraft?" And you'd proudly proclaim, "Yeees! Of cooourse!" And you'd proceed to showcase it and.... yaddi-daddi-daaah, the rest is history. 😀

I thought the faces were supposed to be actual friends of Pharrell Williams, it would have been much better if lego just added them to the buildable minifigures in their lego stores
Those varied heads are spectacular for realistic Lego city builders like me.
I can't help but question if that wall of "Phriends" is meant to represent Pharrell Williams' real life friends and collaborators.
His upcoming biopic _Piece By Piece_ has a lot of new Minifigure designs based on real world people, and I question if those new Minifigure designs will ever see the light of day as physical Minifigures.
So is this The LEGO Group's attempt at giving us said Minifigure designs? They are just giving us the heads/face prints (the most important part), and leaving us fans to piece together our own Minifigures based Pharrell Williams' real life "Phriends" using our own Minifigure parts.
For the last time, price set is decided before the design is made, they added the heads as an extra so the price per piece was bigger, it did not raise the price.
I would not thank LEGO for sending me this.
I expected this to be $50, maybe $70 at most... the price is insane.
I'm ashamed at myself for laughing at that first line. lol.

As someone who LOVES making my own figures based on properties LEGO won't chase, the heads with special prints and new flesh tones are a dream.

It's interesting that "multiple colours" is interpreted as "creative and imaginitive", even when applied to a very basic shape such as this rounded cylinder.
Pharrell was recently implicated in the 1MDB fraud case. Kind of interesting that Lego didn't hold back with this release until his involvement was resolved somehow.

I think the rainbow trail is too iconic for the set to remove, but its a missed opportunity with the wall of phriends. They instead could have had let you pick to one out of all of the available heads when you ordered it online

When i first saw the set, i was like " ok, cool spaceship! ". Then i saw the price and though that the spaceship alone and the 2 astronauts would be enough XD

I would have preferred it if the rainbow boost beam (or whatever you wanna call it) was made out of transparent bricks. The structural ones on the inside should have been colorless clear then.

Not sure about the set as a whole, but the blasting off rocket part is a pretty cool design. I'd like to see them use that idea in future sets to create more "active" display pieces
The display of LEGO heads just makes me think of that one robot chicken sketch where some LEGO people discover a very similar looking thing in some guy's house
I do admit that color and linear design of the blast-off smoke is quite striking!

I think the only reason it feels out of place at the moment is because we haven't seen the movie yet. Once the movie comes out, I think we'll be able to both appreciate and critique the set knowing the greater artistic context.

That being said, the ship has a simple sleek design (any details in the cockpit if you wanted a transparent canopy?) Interesting use of pieces to make the smoke at blast off, if they ever needed to make Lego popcorn, now they can.

I really like the aesthetic of the rocket on the display stand as a model only for displaying, and I can really see myself utilizing all those heads for other things
At this point I'm mostly curious how it'll tie into the movie, especially the Phriends wall. As far as tie in sets go, I think it hit the mark. People see the movie, they get interested in Lego, they see this set on a marketing rack at Target, and the $110 price seems close to impulse price.

I heavy disagree on the smoke trail. That makes the set not just an ordinary rocketship where much better ones exist. The smoke trail makes the set unique, a great display, and bring together the set because an all black rocket ship doesn't seem very lego.
Nose is the same as the Boeing 787 (we need more aviation sets)
Most fans who will buy this are coming from a higher bias to LEGO than Pharrell I am guessing. That being said , his collabs in the current fashion world (He is currently the Creative Director at Luis Vuitton) are a value to that market and more niche to the Lego market. That also being said, depending on how many units they sell and or make, should make for a great piece to collect unopened I am guessing. I am considering this a buy (especially at the price point) and hold.
My cousin was a REAL designer and couldn't make it on his own. He was invited by several fashion houses but tried to make it on his own with innovative designs which only made a splash in the Asian market unfortunately. He has now retired from his dream and is designing user interfaces which we all use. Such a talent lost to the world. Meanwhile... some guy with a silver spoon in his ass is revered by the world. Success is a matter of circumstance and luck. 'nuf said...

The thing that makes the set a bit problematic is that it is basically 3 VERY different things in one set.
There's a lot of people that would be interested in the heads, the (simple) space ship and the colorful plume.
But i guess there are not that many who care about all 3.
I was curious how this was going to stand up, seems it's not quite as fall-prone as I was expecting, but probably needs a metal weight in the bottom of the stand for extra stability. And I hope those heads make their way to the secondary market. You can usually only get non-yellow heads depicting specific characters, having yellow-head faces printed on human-colour heads will be huge.
I think this will look really good with the "Tales of the Space Age" set.
That guy was involved with Blurred Lines and can now work with Lego. The other guy on the record got cancelled into oblivion.
If not consider about the price, this set look amazing, especially the fuel bit, plus all wall of minifig head make this set very unique!
I actually love the model, including the “wall” of heads, exactly because it’s so unusual and eye-catching. Perhaps the many printed head pieces contributes to the price?
i think when you know somethings about pharall it's amazing who it feels like him.the colors are spot on. the efford which was put into designing this screams like a hell of ride. it's crazy how much i like this, but it's mainly because you see the love of the designer and so much of pharall in it. price is too much. should just have been 99. oh and love the idea of displaying it in the context of tales of the space age.

I love that metallic gold canopy, I’d like to make an all black version of the Buzz Lightyear XL-15 set and put that gold canopy on it. I also like the Minifigs with those helmets and gold visors.
Well, if there’s one set nobody asked for, it’s this one. But I do like the trail coming from the rocket.
The rocket trail is cool, but if it was smaller it would still look neat and at a cheaper price. The ship looks good too and the gold canopy is sharp looking on the model, but it hides all the detail in the cockpit!
Why??? Just why. Of all people to have a collaboration they chose Pharrell. A person that lost a massive lawsuit because he stole a Marvin Gaye classic and tried to pass it off as his own creation. Also a person who has admitted that he knows nothing about musical literature and cannot write music. Lego stop. You don’t need this.

Definitely agree. Would probably have gotten this set if it was cheaper by not including all those heads, which I'll likely never use. Probably a good thing though, as shelf space is limited here 😅

I couldn't care less about it being related to Pharrell. However, the spaceship as an out-of-context display set is pretty mice.
By the way, that wall of heads is creepy, and if I buy this, I would definitely skip building it

I have a custom lego city/town and this wall of heads will make a brilliant addition by giving me loads of diversity and customisation for the citizens!
Perhaps a niche application, but for that fact I'd say the wall of heads is a great addition and I think I can justify the price - though as lego fans I think we could all justify any price if we wanted it enough! 😅
I buy a lot of sets just for the parts, sometimes multiples of the same set so I have a large catalogue of duplicate minifigures that will benefit from a little mixing and matching to give everyone their own unique look. ✌🏼
$110 for a cheap looking rocket and a wall of faces....what were they thinking on this one?
ok, if they collabed with Pharell - surely we could get an Abbey Road crosswalk with just 4 minifigs... right? We had the Yellow Sub back in the day, I remember.
Otherwise - a highly unlikely collab but the set does look kinda neat!
I love this set and i especially love the cloud of smoke! if i get this set ill probably add the smoke trail to my daily bugle explosion to make it more comic-y. but, for 110 dollars i probably wont. this feels like a 70 dollar set at best, especially for only 900 pieces
lego should rerelease something like this but with an actual space shuttle and recolor the trail with orange red and white and make it for like 70-80 dollars.
Very weird set indeed. The only thing that interests me with this set is the mini fig heads. That by itself is valuable, especially with all the different color tones. I can use them all for my Lego city. Great review though, I totally agree with you.
I think this on a desk with the Space art hanging behind it would look sick.

See, I don't know what the "appeal" of this set is, largely because I don't know whose name is on it. So... Yeah. It looks kinda neat but... Meh.
I love the concept of the rocket flying off at an angle, but nothing else. Who is the target audience for this? I hope they'll build on this idea for a future space release, though.
Take out the wall of faces and the smoke trail, which would have to knock off like $30 to $40 or so, and I'd buy it probably. Maybe if it ever goes on discount.
If this was a lot cheaper it would be a great parts pack for the minifig heads.
With all these heads pieces…for that price it should have come with a ‘bald/stopples’ headpiece.

If I were building a Lego city the heads could be good for a ton of diverse townspeople. I like the gold canopy, the space minifigs, and the rocket trail. But I don’t know where I would put it. Too many Lego sets and no space…
Anyone else excited to see all those heads make there way onto BrickLink? I really want more realistic son toned Minifigures in my Lego city, and that wall of heads looks like a dream to get. Even though I probably won’t get this set, I’m excited to see those heads make their way onto the secondhand market so people like me can get more diversity in our collections.

Im not a big Pharrell fan, but I must admit this set is really cool, the contrast of the dark ship with the bright streaks is very nice. And the variety of minifig heads are appreciative

This is trying to break into the “hype beast” market I feel. Lego trying to make a space in the ridiculous overpriced world of super exclusive products, specifically meant to tailor to ultra rich “style” focused people.

Here’s the thing, I like the idea of different heads. But to be honest…I don’t really care for who it is behind the space helmet. If I ever get a minifig with a helmet or head covering (where you can’t see the face) then it doesn’t matter who is wearing the helmet. Minifig an are just characters. They’re not exactly real to me.
But everyone is different. So great idea from Pharrell and Lego. It’s not exactly my cup of tea though.
This set could have been so much better without the fluff and useless IP. Love the cockpit and the space suits (for whomever does non yellow heads, I presume those heads hold some value) - however hate the set itself. The $20 city space ship is so much better than this ship. I will just have to get a hold of that cockpit to customize one of those city spaceships for the commander guy.
I completely agree. Take away the faces make the tail smaller cut the price in half
