I got to watch him during his career, I can tell you this, he was the closest thing to being unblockable as you could get and he was double teamed on almost every play. He was an amazing athlete for a man his size and frankly is the reason DT's are used the way they are today. He was a pleasure to watch, even if he wasn't on your team.
I saw him play when I was really young. I remember thinking how is it possible for a man that big to move that quickly.

the determination of Walter Payton , the strength of Jackie Slater , and the heart of Reggie White , 3rd overall pick in the 1990 draft to HoF in 2012 , one of the Greats on and off the field , RIP Mr Cortez Kennedy .
This was a MAN! He never got to play on a winning team,but was a Seahawk all the way. The new guys took the old with them and it breaks my heart to think of him dead at such a young age. Bless his family with comfort.
Dude did all of this from the DT position what a monster and a legend. The two great defensive legends of the 90s in the AFC West are gone today in Derrick Thomas (Chiefs) and Cortez Kennedy.

@@ericsigersmith6067 I mean I was referring to just the deceased DTs that played in the AFC West during that era. Kevin Greene is still living and he never played for an AFC West franchise. He played for the Rams, Steelers, Panthers, and finished his career I believe with the 49ers.

I remember that in the 1992 NFL season when Cortez Kennedy won Defensive Player of the Year award on a 2-14 team and he was a beast on a bad team but RIP Cortez Kennedy and this is coming from a Cowboys fan.

The 92 seahawks were such an anomaly. They had a top 5 defense, DPOY Cortéz Kennedy, and an 1,000 yard rusher with over 4.5 yards per carry; but they finished 2-14 because of the worst scoring offense (140 total points) in a 16 game season (For comparison, 16 of the 27 other teams that season scored double of Seattle and all but 2-14 New England scored at least 100 more than the Seahawks).

That right there's my favorite defensive lineman in history. To be honest in the late 80s to '90s the only reason anybody pay attention to Seattle was because Cortez Kennedy.

IMO, Bob Lilly was the best. But blockers couldn't extent their arms back in his day and you didn't see as many quick-pass, west coast type offenses back then. Its difficult to compare across eras for these reasons. Tez, at his best, deserves to be listed up there with any of them.
