    I’ve tried egg shells in my plant pot, but it didn’t do anything to my plant, it only made a mess. A leaf from my plant had a brown spot, so I tried using a rusty nail repeatedly, but the leaf only got worse. Months later, the leaf is still brown, only now it has a bigger and deeper brown spot! They don’t work!

  • @sunandaKdas
    @sunandaKdas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Major mistake everyone makes: we generally don't first check what soil composition is required for which plants. Some plants need acidic soil, others don't. We also club different plants which are not necessarily good for each other in same soil patch.
    Vinegar is acetic acid. And in shops you are most likely to get synthetic vinegar. Why would you spray an acid on to a living thing? Gardeners should use common sense and read some published articles in journals before following TH-camrs blindly.
    Also be mentally prepared for some trial and error. Every soil patch is different and every gardener will get different results even if they do everything the same in terms of watering, fertilizing, seeds etc. Climate, air quality, water quality, pot sizes, compost components, tiny differences ultimately lead to different outcomes.
    Be prepared to lose some plants. Find out what could have happened. Make necessary changes, start again. Only through trial and error we can get to good gardens.
    Plants are living things. They have their own response mechanisms and sensitivity to environment. There is no single magic formula when you are dealing with them. You have to watch and learn from the plant's response.
    Listen to expert advice but work with your plants in your own way to get good outcomes.

    The grenary beside you and on your terrace indicate us how good you were looking after them. Thank you very much for your knowledge. I am a B. PHARMACY GRADUATE, in my entire course there was never a subject or deep syllabus about gardening and soil significance. Except we studied some diseases of plants that's it. There's a subject named PHARMACOGNOSY but it mostly discuss about medicinal uses of plants. My father was complaining of mosquitoes in my home so I am using citronella oil and lemon grass oil to repel mosquitoes but my father suggested for mosquito repellent plants. So ordered some lavender, geranium, lemon grass, mint, marigold and basil seeds and now I need information about potting and its soil preparation and its rejuvenation after a long time. So you covered all my syllabus to move on with planting seeds in my home garden. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.

      Yes, what you are doing is fine. Some gardeners just roughly break up the shells and place them on the soil hence the problems. I am surprised the professor didn't say that decomposition of egg shells to powder or compost will prevent fungus etc.

    I think you are right about the eggshells. They are quite similar to snails or clamshells. I did a little experiment years ago with eggshells where I found intact eggshells that I mixed in the soil a couple of years ago. Last week I found some snail shells unspoiled from the dug-up ground soil which was I guess untouched for at least 100 years. This was alarming and I immediately stopped using eggshells.

    I crush all of my egg shells by hand and add them to a properly prepared compost heap. The heap will be turned at least three times, and it will take around eleven months to mature, so usually there are no signs of egg shells remaining. I am confident that egg shells are not harmful when used in this way. My heaps usually exceed 50 degrees C for two or three weeks, and remain above 30 degrees C for many more weeks.

      Vinegar is acetic acid. In shops you will mostly get synthetic vinegar. There is no guarantee of what is the concentration of acid in it so you can never know how much to dilute. Why spray acid on a living thing? Always check chemical composition of whatever you are using for your plants.

    सर जी आप जैसे जानकारी व पेड़ पौधों तथा गार्डनिंग की बारे में अति उत्तम व विशिष्ट जानकारी आप के हर वीडियो को बड़े ध्यान से देखता हु।मै भी इसमे से अंडे की सेल को अपने अमरूद के पौधे के पत्तियां मुड़ी व सिकुड़ी हो गयी थी स्तेमाल किया था।लेकिन आप की जानकारी के बाद अब कभी नही
