      Yes Dollywood was a bit of a stretch. Was just mentioning some of the big parks in the general area. Parks on the east side of the country are very close to each other with multiple parks trying to bring in the same crowds in some cases. That was the point I was trying to make.

    I agree with you Patrick. Cedar Fair and Six Flags are highly unlikely to build another traditional giga coaster.Sea World Entertainment might. In reality I don't think the numbers make sense for a park to build one as far as return on investment. I think the RMC T Rex is the future. Eventually someone will step up and build one and we"ll see how successful it is.

      Well, Busch gardens Tampa get more visitors then any other amusement park in the USA (outside of Disney, Universal, and the Orlando SeaWorld parks) at 4.1 million a year. Cedar point only gets 3 million, and SF Magic mountain gets 3.3 million. So i honestly agree with Patrick on Busch gardens Tampa getting a giga. @@tylerkriesel8590 Cedar Point draws 3.6 million visitors a year and is only open around 135 days a year. All the other parks you mention are open almost every day of the year. If a seasonal park like KI draws 3.5 million visitors a year and is open less than half the year and they STILL got a Giga, then other seasonal parks could still get one if their attendance was high enough. You would have to make a return on your investment of 30+ million dollars reasonably quick. Most parks don't already have a good enough line up to just add a Giga and expect an attendance boost of 10-20 percent to pay for their new coaster. Six flags are too cheap to spend 30 million for one park when they are spending millions at every park for small rides every year. For Cedar Fair, Knott's is the only park that has enough visitors to warrant a Giga, but they don't have the room to build one.

    I agree with most of what you say, but some of the criteria you list I don’t necessarily agree with. For example, you rule out parks because they have competition in their areas, whereas that could be a reason to rule them in - they feel they have to go big to compete. And also by process of elimination, you settle on Worlds of Fun in the CF chain, whereas they just don’t have a record of that kind of investment.
    I think in general, the era of gigas has largely passed for U.S. amusement chains, and even Orion barely qualifies.
    If I had to bet, I’d say we see no more gigas in the U.S. in the next twenty years. I hope I’m wrong. BUT if I had to pick one place, it might be Magic Mountain. They do have space issues, and yes SF are not spending much (especially if we’re heading into a recession), but SFMM is the chain’s flagship park, and they are in need of a new world-beater, perhaps for their twentieth.

  • @Sabir_DelNorte

    I wouldn’t expect for Cedar Fair to push the giga (B&M models), since they’ve installed the only gigas in all of North America,
    Only two of which are intamin. The west coast parks appear to not be pushing for one as much as the single rail, of the newer types of coasters.
    I agree that six flags would be the least likely given they have yet to install even one from the ground up.
    Pretty much agree with you on the points made. The problem with the smaller CF parks is that the company hasn’t even done a new coaster install, besides a wooden coaster, or some lower height steel coaster.
    I would think that either of the Busch parks would be the next primed to do a new giga. Other than the Busch parks, it’s highly unlikely, we’d see any smaller parks make that kind of investment, other than perhaps Dollywood? Or SDC.

    • @Sabir_DelNorte
      @Sabir_DelNorte 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In fact, i suspect that B&M projects are slowing in the North America markets after the 2020-22 time frame. Since building gigas isn’t a main focus for theme parks as much as the hypers by contrast, i don’t see what else B&M could be developing that is a main need for a coaster based park. Not every park has a dive coaster but is there really a huge demand for new dive coasters in North American parks? The hyper craze appears to also be slowing as many parks, the bigger ones have or will have one in the coming year. Only other two, or three parks I can see wanting a hyper after 2020, but that begs the question as Patrick said, why spend that on a hyper, rather than going full giga? Doubtful six flags will introduce a giga since they have yet to do so at any of their more popular parks, so that leaves the small family owned three -holiday world?, SDC, and Dollywood? Out of them, I suspect Dollywood would be the first of the three to get a hyper, or jump right to a giga if they go with taller, faster coasters of the B&M/Intamin stock. Maybe they’ll do a single rail T-Rex to distance themselves completely from the other parks having a giga

    • @CoasterFanatics
      @CoasterFanatics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. I could easily see them doing a TREX. They are known for being the fist for several coasters. Wild Eagle and Lighting Rod for example. Also you can look at outlaw run and Time Traveler at SDC as well.

    • @Sabir_DelNorte
      @Sabir_DelNorte 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CoasterFanatics agreed!! I think it makes the most business sense to invest in a major giga / trex coaster to solidify the park as having a rounded coaster collection. Dollywood seems to be the most primed, but I would imagine the other two also have more land that is available to build a larger coaster structure. Each park already has iconic coasters, introducing the trex or some form of a giga would definitely be a next logical step in terms of a major attraction that isn’t a new shopping/dinning/family fun center of sorts.

    As far as Holiday World goes, I think a hyper coaster would be a cool addition but the Voyage almost looks like a hyper coaster as you're driving by the park, even though it isn't. I'm not sure if they would do that but maybe down the road and knowing them, they would invest in a great coaster that would get a lot of attention since they're all about quality. However I think the most likely candidate for a new coaster there would be a GCI and I honestly can't think of a better addition for that park. I agree with what you said, Holiday World is a wooden coaster park and the idea of a more modern coaster design from GCI coming to that park in the future excites me!
    As far as a Giga, I agree with the 4 parks you picked out as likely candidates. I'm not sure the next time I'll get to Kings Island but I really hope Orion surprises me because the POVs don't get me as excited as I wish they did. The length of it is the biggest problem I have, it's too short. Like you said in your other video I don't like the name at all either, especially compared to the other coasters in their park. They could remove Black Widdow for the station, have it go over Exterminator, and utilise the property where those houses currently are for most of it. It would likely turn around in the parking lot which would mean an exciting return trip being that it would be downhill like Voyage. I don't think it's likely to happen but I wouldn't rule it out. California's Great America may be landlocked, but one thing possibly in their favor in regards to space issues is that they removed their perimeter scenic railway. This leaves a mile long corridor running around the park's perimeter which could be utilized if needed. It has been infringed upon in a few locations (waterpark and Gold Striker) but a giga coaster has the luxury of going over things rather than through them. While I think a huge drop followed by several other larger than normal airtime hills will always have it's place, I think Steel Vengeance's dynamic post mcbr has turned the industries attention in a different direction. Alan Shilke has alluded to the possibility of a mid gauge single rail that could support trains with side-by-side seating and fill the gap between the raptor and t-rex track. Perhaps, Chance rides could design a coaster with giga heights pre-mcbr and a hyper gt-x layout post mcbr and at an affordable price.
    Also, I think Dorney's proximity to Great Adventure and Hershey Park would be a reason CF would want to start heavily investing in it.

    I'm going to say I disagree with a lot of your reasoning here. I highly, highly doubt Worlds of Fun will get a giga. It's a smaller park which doesn't get major investments, and doesn't need major investments to stay competitive. Ruling out parks due to "too much competition" also is a pretty bad strategy, since building better things is how you beat your competition.
    So I will definitely agree that Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, and Busch Gardens Tampa are good candidates for the next American Giga. I do think you ruled out Holiday World too quickly, since they have shown they want to expand into steel coasters with Thunderbird. Likewise with HersheyPark, who shows unpredictable construction practices and are a larger park with a larger population to draw from. They're a pretty good fit to receive one maybe in the next 10 years. Same with Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Seaworld Orlando, both large parks which could work with one. They'll need to get new additions a few years down the line, and I'd think they'd both be candidates for gigas in the next decade as well.
    Now I do think you're right about Disney and Universal. They won't be building any giga coasters. Upon some reflection I think you're right about Cedar Fair not building any more gigas, at least, not lift-hill-based non-T-Rex ones in parks which already have one (or are getting one). Worlds of Fun not being likely to get one rules out Valleyfair immediately, given Worlds of Fun has a greater population to draw from, and Knotts is too land-locked. California's Great America probably could squeeze one in currently, but if they're getting a hyper next then that's going to take up space, and I feel like RMC Grizzly would come after that, giving them 2 coasters which would probably be all they'd get for awhile. They're a bad candidate for the next decade, although maybe going into 2 decades they could start looking like a decent candidate. By process of elimination, that would actually leave Dorney Park as the most likely to get one, given that they're in an area with competition and population. I don't think this is likely, but maybe possible. Honestly I do think they lack the space to do it though.
    But I do think you ruled out Six Flags too quickly. Sure, I think they're bad candidates for the next 5 years, but once you start looking to 10 or 15 they do start looking a bit better. They did go bankrupt in the past, which harmed their additions for awhile, but it seems like they're slowly recovering and beginning to work on gradually larger projects. If you give them a few more years to get back on their feet, and maybe introduce the T-Rex giga, they might want to build one. I think realistically only 3 parks are candidates: Magic Mountain, Great Adventure, and Great America. All 3 have the population and attendance to allow for such a thing, and the first 2 definitely have the land for such a thing. Great America would have more problems, but if they removed their raft ride and ran the Giga along the train tracks, tangling with Maxx Force a bit, or if they removed both their raft ride and their flume, they could perhaps squeeze one in.
    So, with this I would say that I think it's unlikely we'll see another park (which doesn't already have a giga) receive a giga in North America within the next 5 years, maybe a 50/50 chance we'll see one within 10 years, and pretty likely we'll see one within 15-20 years.
    EDIT: Hersheypark is a bad candidate due to airport-related height restrictions (Like Kentucky Kingdom). Magic Mountain may also be more landlocked than it appeared to me, thus making a giga there more difficult. This was gathered from comments.

Don't know much about Great America, but Great Adventure would definitely be the perfect candidate to receive one outta the three, with all that daggone room they have to expand; that IS if Six Flags was in a better position with their financial tactics which would allow them to build one.

Carowinds is 4 hours from the Atlanta metro with SFOG and 3 hours from Dollywood. It has the rapidly growing Greenville-Spartanburg and Raleigh-Durham metros closeby.
