Metalica asked them to do this for the Blacklist album (30th Anniversary of Black album). Them and Alessia Cara came up with this, and recorded AND submitted it in one week!! Its the first track on the Black List Album.

No they did NOT. Metallica asked Alessia Cara, NOT The Warning. She was stuck and didn't know what direction to go. This project wasn't really in her wheelhouse. She and The Warning share the same management company . Her people talked to The Warning's people, obviously they jumped at the idea. Management proposed the collaboration to Metallica and they approved. I do believe it was The Warning that asked to do Enter Sandman though. They took about a day and half to come up with the rearrangement. Spent I think it was two days in the studio laying down instrumental tracks, and a day doing vocals. Could be the other way around. It's been a minute since I watched the "Dany Day" video where she explains it all. Because they joined the project late, they only had about a week to do. They came in well under the deadline. I believe the Official Music Video was shot in the same week after the studio work was complete.

Chris Smith of 21 Entertainment Group suggested the collaboration to Alessia with TW. Metallica invited Alessia to submit a song from the Black album for the Blacklist album. She told Chris she didn't even know a single song from the Black album, so she liked the idea of the collaboration. Metallica also liked the idea and approved the collaboration. That is how this re-arrangement came about. Chris Smith is their International Booking Agent with 21 Entertainment Group out of Toronto.

@@ZWQ945 What a ridiculous story. A pop singer who doesn't even know Metallica is given the honor of contributing to their album. She has no idea what to do, so her management is like "I know some people" and calls three sisters in Mexico.
The sisters are like: "We're geniuses, so the time crunch is no problem, and doing Enter Sandman will complete a circle for us that will satisfy the Rock Gods and bring balance to the universe. We'll completely rearrange this iconic song, and call you back after lunch when we're done."
The fact that Metallica never contacted The Warning direct is so strange. It just made sense that they would have, given the 2014 cover, and then Alessia was brought in as the extra due to record company shenanigans. What a backwards world.

Legend has it that they were given a week's notice to submit the song for inclusion on the album, and in that week they rearranged the whole song, recorded it, collaborated with Alessia for her parts, and then mixed and mastered it. The song wound up opening the whole Blacklist album.
Imagine the cajones to rework - and soften up - one of the most iconc songs in all of metal, for inclusion on an album that would be marketed directly to Metallica's biggest fans. Fearless.

They became Dany Hetfield-Hammett, Pau Ulrich and Ale Newstedt for this. I'm not a big Metallica fan either (at least not since Master of Puppets & Black Album, which is where everything really worthwhile is), but turning an iconic song like this around in such a way that it doesn't lose its essence and still sounds new is within the reach of very few.
But of course, The Warning's talent is beyond question.

Metallica asked Canadian singer ,Alessia Cara , to contribute to the Blacklist album (30th anniversary of the Black album). This is track #1 on that album. Alessia and The Warning share someone in the business side, and decided to collaborate.
They had 10 days to get it done (7 days of actual recording time). Done during quarantine, Alessia recorded in Canada, TW in Mexico. Metallica told them to rearrange it, told them they don't care if you turn it upside down or play it backwards, just don't change the lyrics. You hear Alessia's voice on backing track in this live version. Pau did the prayer in the music video, as you see Dany does it here.
I've been a Metallica fan for decades, seen them on multiple tours playing this song. And I love this reimagined version.

I'm not a big Metallica fan either (especially after hearing this song probably a thousand times on the radio after it came out)🤪 But these young ladies, in conjunction with Canadian pop singer, Alessia Cara, turned it into a veritable masterpiece in a little over a week! They truly gave it a whole different feel from the original, and yet retained most of the elements of the original, albeit, in a different order. The music video is definitely worth a watch in your spare time, if you haven't seen it already!😄👍👍

They took just over a week (10 days?) I believe from start to finish (reimagining, rehearsing and final recording), as there was a deadline. It was a collaboration with a Canadian singer called Alessia Cara, done during lockdown at Metallica's request. It is the first track on "The Black List" album. A tribute to 30 years since the release of the Black album. They were asked to reimagine it any way they wanted "just DON'T change the lyrics" were the instructions! In the live version you just listened to, the "Aaaaaaaaaah" part between chorus, verses is a sample of Alessia Cara triggered by Pau via foot pedal (laptop running Ableton Live next to the drum kit), all other music, vocals, harmonies are The Warning. Like yourself, I prefer this version over the original to be honest.

Metallica stipulated that they make the song their own but keep the lyrics. Dany has said that they wanted to go back to the original intent of the song which started off being a lullaby and morphed into what Enter Sandman eventually became. The Warning were able to make it into a haunting heavy metal lullaby with Alessia Cara's mournful vocals adding just he right tone to perfect the sound. My favorite version of this song by far. I like the original, but I love this version. ⚡

Thiis is on the Meatllica Blacklist Album, not this live version but they did this in collabaration with Alessia Cara. They where told from Metallica, to make a fresh version, play it backwards, turn it upside down, just keep the lyrics. They did this in only ten days, writing, recording, with the Warning in Mexico and Alessia Cara in Canada, during the covid restrictions, so they had to record her part remotely.

A breath of fresh air, that's how The Warning makes me feel when playing live :-)
In the studio is where recent releases such as More and S!CK have left me confused with production, mastering and mixing decisions.
Every band finds a producer that understands, compliments yet enhances the band's signature sound e.g. Tom Allom for Judas Priest, Eddie Kramer for KISS, Martin Birch for Iron Maiden. For the Warning that's been 'David Bendeth', producer / contributor / mixer for the excellent and consistent Error album which includes Choke and other The Warning projects such as Enter Sandman

This version of Enter Sandman is from the Blacklist Album recorded during the pandemic with Alessia Cara. The "Oh ah oohs" in the background is the backing track of Alessia's vocals from the studio recording. Bands were told to do whatever they wanted to for the song Metallica chose them to do except keep the lyrics the same. To me this is The Warning's song now. I really can't listen to the original Metallica version after this.

I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this version came along. A lullaby where Dany very sweetly puts you to bed, then rouses the troops, shares a little prayer, the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. I think of this very much as the female version of the Sandman tale. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. I love this one.

    *Total Backstory:*
During COVID. Metallica wanted to do a charity project too celebrate their 30th anniversary of their *Black album.* The project is called *Metallica Blacklist Album.* They asked around artists to do a cover song from their *Black album.* Metallica told the artist they're allowed to do what they want with the song *EXCEPT THEY CAN'T CHANGE THE LYRICS.*
Canadian pop singer Alessia Cara was invited by Metallica to participate. The Warning got involved when a guy who works Internationally for both bands suggested both should do a collaboration. Alessia did her part in Canada. Warning in Mexico due to travel restrictions. The Warning had 8 day deadline when they were asked to participate.
    *React to the music video.*
This song so far is only on the Blacklist album & a video game that didn't sell. *Maybe The Warning will release this song on their Greatest Hits album someday.*
Otherwise it's the first song on the over bloated *Metallica Blacklist Album.* Only because the songs are listed in order of the Black Album & then by alphabetical by artist. Cara is first of the 6 versions of *Enter Sandmans* on the Blacklist Album. Followed by 7 cover versions of *Sad But True.* That's just Disc one of four. *Metallica Blacklist Album* didn't sell well since it was very over blouted.
Alessia Cara & The Warning did perform this song live when Cara joined The Warning at the Troubadour club (second night) in LA during The Warning's headliner Mayday set in 2022.
    Now you know.

Just asking the question out of curiosity - I think most everything else you said is accurate and informative. 🙂

DPA/TW and Alessia Cara certainly understood the assignment!
Alessia Cara is a Grammy winning Canadian Pop and R&B singer... they had 10 days to rip this rendition of *Enter Sandman* from the ether and make it a darker, more eerie, and a more haunting lullaby than the original metal version... this was done because they, and many other artists from numerous genres, were invited by Metallica to take one of the songs from the original "Black" album, keep the lyrics and change it up how ever you like... play it backwards, upside down, whatever... this was all for the 30th anniversary of the "Black" album... all the submissions from 50someodd artists were put on the 2021 "The Metallica Blacklist" album... the proceeds from the album sales are split 50/50 with half going to Metallica's "All Within My Hands Foundation" and the other half being donated to a charity of the participating artists' choice.
in the OMV, Dany (guitar) and Alessia share the lead vocals until they are in the three doorways when Dany takes over and Alessia does more of the background oooohs and aaaahs... the version they play in concert has Dany doing the vocals with a backing track of Alessia's ohhhs and ahhhs... of course Ale (bass) and Pau (drums) join in with their angelic harmonies in both... this is a fantastic reimagining of the iconic original... this 60+ year old rocker loves both versions of *Enter Sandman* but this one by TW and Alessia gets more airtime these days 😹

It took them one week between when Metallica asked Alessia Cara and she asked The Warning for help and they produced this and sent it back to Metallica for approval. This is on the Metallica Blaclist album, which is a 30th anniversary album to the Black album. The album features other groups and singers to do songs from the Black album. I believe this is the only song that was rearranged so much and it makes the song TW's instead of a regular cover.

The Warning Cave is in the title on YT. You'll know it when you see Ale's black leather jacket. As you know, these ladies are going to smoke any song they play. It’s normal and natural for them, those are their standards. They are an elite band that doesn’t lower their standards. Their sound is quality, their talent is amazing, their shows are powerful and they are captivating to look at.

Since this is on Metallica's Blacklist Charity LP, you do have options if you want to own the song. TW sells it as a single on download. Metallica sells the box set in both CD or Vinyl plus an MP3 download. Amazon has all of them. The box sets are pretty amazing. DPA did an unboxing of their box after Metallica sent it to them. The 7 LP set is done in alphabetical order for all the artists, and Alessia Cara & DPA was the first song, on disc 1.

Oh, everyone likes this version better than the original. If no other reason than it’s a breath of fresh air for a classic. & the studio/video version is almost a whole other version with the full Alessia vocals and Pau doing the prayer super creepy. They’ve also done it live with strings because why not! th-cam.com/video/qFTUU8KPh-4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ld6KHhGmCrryUovr (fan-cam)

Just to clarify, can someone confirm for me that it was Alessia Cara that received the invite from Metallica, and her team brought The Warning on board? She is a Grammy-winning artist in her own right, and yet always seems to get written out of the lore of The Warning's re-imagined version of Enter Sandman. As someone who prefers her vocal part and the bigger contrast in style of the music video version, I like to remind those who dismiss her vocal contribution in favor of the live Teatro CDMX version that the song might not exist without her.

    • @cissyiniguez
      @cissyiniguez 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes, she was asked first and then reached out to them. They are the ones who actually picked Enter Sandman and she agreed wholeheartedly knowing they covered it before. And although some fans may not always credit her part, the girls always acknowledge Alessia every time they perform it live.

I knew you'd love this one. It's off the Metallica Blacklist album, where multiple artists have done covers of the Black album songs. Here's some numbers for ya. This is one of 53 tracks on the album, on TH-cam Music it's the 5th most listened song on the entire album, the most listed to version of Enter Sandman, it's been listened to 4 Million times, beating the next version of Enter Sandman by by 1.1 Million. That's also the studio version on the album, who knows how many more times it would have been listened to if this live version was on the album, as with a lot of The Warning songs, a well recorded live version often is better than the Studio version.

While The Warning is always better live, you should take a look at the studio version of this song which is on Metallica's Blacklist album, it's a collaboration with Canadian pop singer Alessia Cara. The other music video you should also check out is their song XXI Century Blood.
