I look forward to new videos from Pete. Even on other channels he's consistent and you just don't see him sending people home with destroyed equipment because of some guess. I learned so much of this head porting stuff from a Sprint Car engine builder in the 80's. Like Pete he was about getting all you could without making A, more work or B, losing the port. Actually it hasn't changed very much in detail. Other than the most important thing being Don't Go Too Big and kill the flow. No doubt Pete will get everything these heads have to offer. Even with boost, getting the max out of the port or expect to leave power on the table. While not related to the work itself, I really enjoy that Pete provides his own background music. It shouldn't be such a big deal but hearing those "Freebee" tunes gets old really quick. Thanks again Pete for all the information you provide.
I'd like to see a video of you walking through your musical instruments and the hardware/software that you create these awesome tunes with.. That would be pretty cool 😎
This part is so important that Metallica actually wrote a song about it called "Nothing Else Matters", and if you don´t get this right you´ll be "Unforgiven" . "Sad but true".
Great stuff! I’m sure I can speak for others when I say I’ve seen my share of mutilated ports to the point of ruin…People think that “larger” is better… however, it’s not the size , but rather the shape… My field of expertise was atv’s and I’ve scrapped MANY a head due to the fact that ole Buster got in there and hogged her out. I’ve used the Foredom motor for over 15 years and got all my cutters from CC Specialty. If you have their “C” or “D” hog fluted cutters, you can send those to them and they sharpen them for under ten bucks. I could watch you for hours!
If you really want to see someone polish a turd, Charles Servedio's head porting on here made a sbc swirl port head flow over 300 intake CFM!😯 It's the 193 sbc swirl port casting, the ones every uses as a boat anchor or a door stop.😁👍
Pete, youll get the hang of that porting once you do a couple set! 🤣 You make that shaping look easy. And in aluminum no doubt. Metallica song reference 👍🤣
That was nice of them to give you a hat and how many other people got hats me myself I would have used another brand name grinder in this video even if I didn't like it just to show your appreciation
I’ve kinda of wondered something about the small block Chevy, of even mopars, due to the layout of the intake runners. If the push rod pinch is the biggest restriction besides the valve, why not just cut out the divider of the pair of runners, you could go all the way to the plenum of the intake. Have just 4 big runners. Wonder what it would do, just trying to think out side the box. Interested if you’ve seen it or have heard of it.
@@zacorr1177 I’m a sbf guy my self, if I was rich I’d have a canted valve sbf headed Windsor. Just was thinking out loud. It probably be a turd na, but under boost?
how do you know that they are all flowing the same amount of air? do you flow-test each one and then equalize them out afterwards? seems like if one flowed more air that cylinder would run lean
I'll charge the 'Battery' to 'Ride the Lightning' down the the 'One' 'Master of Puppets'. They must have hacked the Spotify algo, had to unlike the whole discography. Cheers,ed
Hi Pete been following for a while now, just loving the content man, including the music top tier stuff... could I say that maybe a little extraction unit for when your chopping up metalwork on the bench bud, keep that fine mist out of the air, your breathing... take care and have a wonderful new year when it arrives..❤💯
Badass music on this one Pete!! Two questions about the exhaust side: 1) Why not just weld in the original header flange bolt holes and drill/tap new ones out where you want them? Not enough meat out there to punch in the new holes? 2) Do you have any good tricks for minimizing the annoyance of those godawful slivers created when porting ferrous metal?
Just watched you previous vid tuning the car up, I see a lot on cleetus channel too when you say the air probably got better that’s why it ran better, are there no sensors it’s to measure air density and temp and alter the tune dynamically to accommodate the air conditions?
Nice! What headers do you use when you do that? I made 2 flanges for mine because I am putting a pro charger on. I was gonna build my own but I want them somewhat tuned. I have old school Dart pro1 215’s. Thanks
What style carbide burr did you use here? Doesn't seem to bounce around enough for a single cut carbide, but didn't seem to clog either. Double cut carbide with a light pressure? Thanks for the great info and vid.
Why don’t you see people angling the valves away from each other to use bigger valves, I raced with a asphalt sportsman champion that could run with limited late models on 8” tires, we had a engine tear down rule, that no one ever invoked on him until the track almost closed, and he had done that, the pistons were recut, but nothing pulled like the dang thing, lot of work, but the thing was never higher the 9:5-1 on comp ratio. I believe the cam was built around it, and was a 400 block if I remember
once you go roots theres no going back just run 93 pump gas with a quart of rc car 12 percent nitro in 32 gallons so half a quart in 15 gallons they are 2 quart bottles for 20 bucks youl never detonate
@@trestlesrocksIbhad the opportunity to learn stuff from Scott Foxwell the other day and flowbenches came into play because I have one in my garage lol. I did not but I will. Why was she on there? I find Fridman to be insufferable. Always with the ‘I’m just trying to make the world a better place’ routine….
@@realgoodatdoinstuff900 I hate to admit I feel somewhat similar now. He was great back in 2019, but has become a caricature more recently. At this point I watch the videos 50% for the awesome work performed and learning stuff, and 50% for the soundtrack. Great job on both Pete & Crew!
I came for the music and info also
TRUTH!
Right on buddy
For sure…
Came to say the same. Caught myself just watching him riff
The Metallica puns were great to chuckle to at 8:30 am!

The "METALLICA" reference earned my thumbs up and comment.
Rock on🤘 from Bristol TN!
Those jokes were a head of some of the audience. I'm not sure the kids today appreciate the comedic significance of a good pun or three.
This man out here shredding guitars and cylinder heads!
Pete you nailed that intro!
Good STUFF Doing, as usual Pete. Thanks !
Man I could watch Pete work all day and the music is top notch as usual.
A man should have to ride the lightning for all those metallica puns
It makes absolute sense that the small block Chevy is the most frequently polished turd.
Love your videos!! Don’t come off as the know it all… but obviously well seasoned in it. Good teaching. Love the Metallica reference. Rock on!!!!

I can’t find the words, those ports are absurd. Sad but true. Unforgiven. Big power! Real good.
Beautiful porting job Mr. Pete
In Justice For All 💥 Love it brother
Pete, I've been singing your theme song in my head for the past week waiting for another video!! You got an album or somewhere you put your music??
Great music metal man!

Swap out the small block push rod Chevy for small block blue oval over head cam setup and I think you have what you’re asking for. 😅😬

Always looking out for a new video. Good job mate. Happy New Year.
Absolutely great information! And entertaining as well. Always awaiting the next video.

Nice dad touch with the Metallica lines... ha. ha. ha.
Thanks pete for the lesson
Commenting while the intro plays haha love polishing turds 👍🇦🇺

I'll admit I watch as much for the content as for the awesome music!
Happy (and prosperou/fast) New Year Mr Harrell!!!
LIKE If you think Foredom should be sponsoring the show and not just giving Pete a hat haha.
Very interesting video..thanks for sharing...
Great video, thanks!
Looking forward to more great vids in '24. Hny. 🤙
These videos are incredible.
the Metallica song references had me laughing.
Like the Metallica reference!! Enjoying all content. Keep up the great content Pete!
Why not drill and tap the head for the stahl pattern headers since the exhaust face is flat instead of using the adapters?
I could see daylight around the valve guide @ 4:40-4:41. Does this have any significant impact?
Great content thanks for sharing

if you hog out intake runner it pushes vortec out of reach in rpms
Pete, Great Work as always!! Is it possible to drill and tap the head for the bigger bolt layout?

You bless us with ur fine music but what was ur listening choice while porting ?😁

Oh God, the Metallica puns!
Im here for the solos
Pete, when that motor is back in the car it will be ‘Ride the Lightning’ time. 😳
Another great video, thanks for putting in all the work to produce these videos Pete and Happy New Year to you.
Let’s take garbage and ,Make it shine!!!!!
We’re polishing 💩 😂
When I am ready my sbc will be going here, for rebuild from NA to turbo
Great video pete! Traction control video next?????
Music is clutch here bud 👌
Could the head be drilled and tapped to the bigger exhaust flange pattern to eliminate the adaptor? I don’t know a huge amount about race sbs.

Good Stuff!
2006 Colorado 5.3 80mm turbo next turd daily driver 900 at 20 psi so far
and with those heads the vorte wont come into play till you hit 5000 rpm
it will smoke of the tires a second time
What bits did you use to do the actual port and finish?
Do you port in multiple stages? For example starting with a rough cut and switch to a milder cutting tool to finish?
What style carbide burr did you use here? Doesn't seem to bounce around enough for a single cut carbide, but didn't seem to clog either. Double cut carbide with a light pressure? Thanks for the great info and vid.
Google "aluma cut burr"
Beautiful job sir it's going to make the motor happy and by the way how many rpm would you spin a 5.3 stock bottom end? Just curious
You need to license these tunes out to Cleetus to switch up the Timelapse sounds on his channel. This is so much better.
When you're porting, how many dremel tips do you go through on a set of heads?
and cut ring gaps bigger and ring your block they can show you how on youtube
or even steel ring head gaskets will fail at high rpm

Do you even bother with a flow bench or do you just let the dyno guide you?
He is using the math, flow benches are for marketing.
@@MikeFL2TX that’s what I was wondering. With enough experience you probably just know what works and what doesn’t making a flow bench less necessary.

Love the Metallica dad joke👍
Give me fuel give me fire!
Call me crazy, but it would seem like the biggest restriction would be the port that starts as a rectangle and finishes as a circle.
What's in the squirt bottle? Vegetable oil?
🤘
Do the same port size rules apply to turbos that apply to super chargers.
Much appreciated : your good Man
Do work ...shiny them Turdzzz'°°%
Why are the o ring grooves stop shy of meeting up? Did I miss something in a previous video? Not get to that yet?
😮😮😊😊
All the Metallica puns 😂
Have to have the hair out for the guitar clips.
Need to use safety goggles especially when porting iron 😢
Thanks TH-cam comments safety police.
