Two years ago, I was in deep sadness when I stumbled upon Mikey's food adventures, honestly it helped me so much to maintain my sanity. I was a picky eater before, I do not take risk in tasting different cuisines, but Mikey changed my perspective when it comes to trying out really good food and I do not regret it. I became more adventurous when it comes to food. I enjoyed more varieties of food now. Thanks to all of your vlogs Mikey.

Mikey helps me, too. I know his Dumpling channel is more popular but I prefer this one. He’s just calm and comforting but also honest.
I found him years ago, he had a channel called Beyond Science. It was about mysterious history mainly, unexplained anomalies of historic sites that science couldn’t explain. I LOVED that channel. He hooked me with his personality (and he’s handsome but that’s not why I watch). I usually don’t watch people eating food but I watch every one of his videos on this channel.
And I’ve been vegan for 12 years, lol. I just get comfort from Mikey.

The cold noodles you had are Pyongyang naengmyeon, our most famous food. It is meant to be that way. So if you don't like it, adding mustard is a must. But its flavor is something people get used to and say it's better than Jinju and Mul-naengmyeon

    Finally Mikey experienced true kimchi.
The wife of my former Taekwondo grandmaster used to make it fresh all the time and give me some. Super spicy, FULL of garlic, not too sour. That's how it has to be, not those sad little puddles without much taste you tend to get in restaurants.
So maybe now you can understand my love for it.

Its not so much respect Asians go quiet. Its
      a) they don't want to somehow inadvertently get involved
      b) they are loving the drama playing out before them
      c) nosy and want to hear what the deal
I find my white friends are pretty similar.

    • @jasminee204
      @jasminee204 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I feel like that's a bit of positive racism/exotisisation? In the UK, we generally wouldn't confront people arguing either. I don't think it has anything to do with respect or self respect. Just don't want to get involved in other people's drama.

For the cold noodles there is two branches of noodles. One branch uses strong flavors, the other branch uses very very mild flavors. For me personally, i cant really get used to the mild one, but some people find it absolutely fantastic. Supposedly it is a food that grows on you.

14:12 when he was showing the dumplings with the sauce and everything. I had to stop myself from opening my mouth and trying to bite it. Not even kidding. (I love dumplings in general, especially xiao long baos). And those dumplings looked amazing.

LMAO @ the arguing couple. Reminds me of a couple that run a chinese restaurant in this tiny town in AZ. They been here forever and this one day they kept yelling at each other while seating people and ringing up checks. I thought it was funny and kinda cute how they'd kept arguing while working.

Pyongyang naengmyeon takes a while to get used to. The broth is famous for its flavorless profile where you have to actively seek for hints of beef or other flavors. It is contrary to regular naengmyeon where the beefy flavor is complemented with additional flavors and spices(yangnyeom). It is the pinnacle of the food profile in Korea and is enjoyed among the most hardcore naengmyeon lovers. One tip. Do not put extra ingredients in your broth next time. It is to be simply enjoyed as is. Adding sour and spicy hints will only conceal the shy flavors that are hidden within. Enjoy!!

Pyongyang style cold noodle is purposefully not sweet and sour. It’s beef broth chilled so tastes like blend but it’s deep beef broth. When you chill good beef broth, you get that Pyongyang style. Like Jazz or wine, you need to try a few times to actually enjoy the flavor.

As soon as I heard garlicky kimchi, mandoo and Myeongdong, I thought Mike’s at Kyoja.
As for the weak cold broth, did you guys end up at a Pyongyang-style naenmyeon joint? Their broth tends to be subtle, I’ve heard it described as being anemic, whereas the version I grew up eating in Seoul tends to be more in your face with the flavor.

My Aunt & Uncle would yell at each other in Cantonese during the dinner rush at the restaurant. It would be sooo awkward when you're serving the customers food and those 2 are just going off on each other 🤣🤣🤣
