    I just found you. I have a big shoe box of gorgeous cards from many trips on secondary highways from the NE of Canada thru the US to Florida, or across the top of the US by car, ferry, bus...Have some of your past presidents back to the 60's I blv. Some of places that no longer exist & some of monuments. But mostly I like store fronts, gardens with bird houses etc. Also have lots which were sent to me from various countries, especially of art or churches, which kind go hand in hand I guess. Old stamps on back. Some wooden ones, & those that change picture when you tilt it...those are interesting if not exactly pretty.

      Thanks Bill!
      I have a bunch of different types of postcards I will be showing in the coming videos, some of them I think will be interesting to some.
      Also Channel is now 100% Postcards related, moving toys to a different channel probably as response here to Postcard information is doing well.

    On that linen card in minute 4:55, I have seen that stamp sell for over $1,000. Everyone should pay attention to any stamps on these cards as well.

    If a poor person had a card, it would be of great value, some had never been photographed but seen a photo of anyone they knew. So to me, it seems like the white border cards look like a bit of 'framed' artwork when displayed behind the glass of the Hoosier cabinet. Saw that a lot when I was a kid 70 yrs ago in my village.

    Love the video!! Do you have any videos about non- topographical vs topographical . I am a bit confused about the two different categories. Thanks again for your videos. I am new with selling postcards but I am learning a lot of great info from your videos. ✌️

      I would not get hung up on non- topographical vs topographical
      When eBay made a big change in their Postcard Categories a few years ago they pushed listings into both and a lot were not correct. I don't worry about that specification.

    When I sold postcards I would be amazed at what cards sold! I had a guy buy a postcard I had up in my store for auction. It was a real photo postcard of a funeral home in Ohio from the 20's. I think I started the auction at $9. He was the only bidder and he bid $25! He was a collector of anything that had to do with funerals. lol I was so happy with that sale! I can't wait to get back to selling postcards. It is so much fun and a learning experience!

    Great video! I am starting to really get into vintage postcards and got so much info from this video. Thank you! In your experience, does a postmarked postcard sell for less than a blank one?

    • @SMPostcards
      @SMPostcards  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad it was helpful! I have not seen to much of a difference depends on the collector. The cancel cancel on the Postmark can be special, but I leave that up to the stamp guys mostly. There is detailed video for each of the Eras as well on the channel. Thanks for watching! Ask any questions have a lot of great sellers and collectors joined here that can help.

      I just stopped by another place yesterday and found some more cards paid about 10.00 for all of them and probably will sell for around a total of 50.00 - 60.00. when they all sell. Looked thru about 100 cards in less than 15 minutes and pulled the ones out I wanted. Left the scraps :)

    What are the postcards called that have the scalloped edges? Are they just chrome postcards cut in a different way?

    • @SMPostcards
      @SMPostcards  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Here is definition
      Scallop Edge
      A die-cut tooth-like border with rounded points around
      the edges of a postcard is referred to as a scallop edge.
      These decorative edges began being used by some
      publishers in the 1940’s, but they are more commonly
      seen on the photochromes of the late 1950’s and 60’s.

    Postcards... I have tried to learn a out what I have, all that I found in postcard albums late 1800's to the 40's I have struggled learning about them. I put In plastic boxes tried to organize, there is every kind of card here rppc, trains, boats, birthday, we'll wishes new years. Xmas, Halloween u name it I have it. I did sell a Cobbs honus baseball postcard for over thousand dollars. I just wish I could understand how to search on line for say a scenes card, or birds eye view that are rarer cards or how to learn about small towns, which people want. I've been trying to learn for 2 years now. Any ideas or sites to learn more about these postcards. I hope I made sense.. thank you for your time

    • @SMPostcards

      Basically if you put the subject in eBay search example "Looking East toward Adams Massachusetts" (This was on a card I'm looking at right now) you should be able to see the cards are listed on eBay and if you select to show all "Solds" you will see what they are selling for. It is a tedious task to look up cards, but after awhile you will know if some are worth looking up or not.

    Your religious card was common when postcards were sent at cheaper postage rates AND paper was really expensive. So Easter & New Years & mother's day were often acknowledged even by poor people by a post card. We today are such wasters, not just paper, everything incl. food.

    I have a question. Why do many put Logos or add some kind of watermark on the photos of the postcards they list?
    Is there a reason? Are they afraid that some people may use the photo, so they want to bother to buy the postcard?

    • @SMPostcards
      @SMPostcards  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes some p[people do not want their photos used by others and also people do download just the photos and not buy the the photo/postcard. This is most prevalent with higher priced photos and postcards. per eBay policy Watermarks are not allowed "Watermarks of any type, including those used for ownership attributions are not allowed" Also on Etsy they say that offsite promoting will not happen if watermarks are used. Some people still use them tho.

    • @StephRenee812
      @StephRenee812 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought they did it because of copyright of their photos. People still others pictures and sell the. On ebay scammers. There are alot of fake accounts on ebay.

      @@SMPostcardskeep it that way, I’ve bounced 100 hobby’s all my life because I’m fascinated by everything….and move on quickly.
      Stamps are BY FAR the most frustrating,confusing,and deceiving hobby of all time.
