- The sound quality is the best you can find on the internet. I remastered it specifically for myself to listen to in the car. Most likely, this version sounds even better than the original recording. 😄
Judging by their sound, the drummer and guitarist are very talented and have experience in the hard rock and metal scene. The vocalist and the keyboardist are less experienced. The band probably broke up after recording this track. Maybe they had one performance in Bremen or Hamburg as an opening act for foreign guests, which got them radio airplay on NDR at the end of the summer or the beginning of autumn in 1984, at the organizers' request.
We should look for local studios in Bremen or Hamburg; I'm sure it was recorded somewhere there! Studios that had experience with pop music (since the synth sounds like Yamaha DX-7) and heavy rock (because the guitars and drums sound very heavy and not typical of the New Wave or Post-Punk scene).
Most likely, the drummer and guitarist joined a hard rock or pop-rock band, possibly in a different country like the USA, while the vocalist quit his music career. He is probably living somewhere on a farm right now, unaware that his song is in demand. Maybe this song was later released in the late '80s on some VA compilation album. Though, who knows... 😅

This song is definitely about the motivation to overcome depression.
I think the "Like the wind, you're gonna suffer, let a smile be your companion" part really sold to me that this is indeed about that.

Apparently people have gotten iffy about the GDR footage used for this video? I don't get it, I think it fits perfectly and is far from celebratory of the GDR.
Instead, the imagery, combined with the relative bleakness of the song, paint a dark picture of the 80's as the Iron Curtain still stood and the Cold War reached higher tensions, only to suddenly end over a few short years at the end of the decade and the beginning of the next.
Quite beautiful to me.
for those who do question the usage: it's likely inspired by some people theorising that this song may be about someone/referencing those who tried to cross no man's land between West and East Germany

the east german gootage fits really well i actually think the song might talk about the cold war (ans to be exact about the loneliness from family on the other side of the wall and becoming depressed. The lines "tore it in tore it out" references the berlin wall and the wish of tearing it out of existence)

The real lost and mistery about this song is the vocalist who sang on the band after called Statues in Motion, some guys found a member and he told them about it

It seemed to me that it sounded more like a studio recording, like a release, rather than improvisation as in the original. In any case, it doesn't spoil the overall impression, in my opinion. The drummer is definitely trying to outplay the whole band as a whole. :)

I bet this song is about the communist republic of germany or whatever it was called then. the lyrics should be obvious that it is about the freedom that people in communist blocks never got like my grandma for example. she lived in Poland when it was under communism influence. shes still alive and well.

it will download a compressed version. yt compresses everything including audio and the video itself. so if you upload the original file you have (the remaster) to google drive for example it wont be compressed

Honestly, I don't feel any sympathy towards the GDR or the communist regime. However, I acknowledge that the Berlin Wall is an integral part of history, albeit a very dark one.

The Berlin Wall was built to stop the practice of working in West Berlin (with a higher pay) while receiving all the benefits of being an East German (universal healthcare, free education, cheap cost of living). Plenty of darker things in Germany's history...
