While I agree that a slick plate carrier with a split rig over top is actually a decent setup, and have seen it used to great effect, I definitely disagree with soft armor only. (If that is what your comment is implying) Coming from someone who’s been in a near peer conflict theater, the setup your describing is genuinely good for a recce where you know you primarily face IDF/FPV threat, moving fast/light is priority, and you know you’ll only be in a hot environment for a week or less, however when planning for any type of small arms contact, always go for the hard plates. Even using the same overall setup, definitely don’t skip out on having hard plates as an option. I like where your head is at though. If you buy a simple slick carrier, you can use it to conceal armor as well. Good options for this would be Spiritus’ LV119 (I currently run this, and have abused it to all hell), or the Ferro Concept’s Slickster.
I keep my plate carrier ready to grab and go. With loaded AR mags in the pouches, extra set of gloves, with my Glock 17C in a paddle holster in the dump pouch and an extra glock stick mag in the system, even a bottle of water in a side pouch. I only keep 3A soft armor in it though.

Have to absolutely disagree on this one. I'm just one data point admittedly. I have a 5.11 plate carrier that catastrophically ripped at the 15:39 front left collar attach point rendering it unwearable. Not from damage or abuse just inadequate stitching. This was a few years ago admittedly but just be sure you inspect it and return it within the return period if you see any stitching defects. That said, my Condor plate carrier is a trooper. Yes, also recommended by Nutn. 😁👏🏻
I bought that G-Fire $70 LBE you recommended like four years ago. It’s perfect for me. This 5-11 is expensive compared to that one, but certainly more features.
TNPer since 2008. I've got the integrity to admit that I'd fail, and it's my goal this year to address it. I've got enough gear to fully kit more people than is even practical. Curious what you think of the "slick" plate carriers that most guntubers seem to be using vs something like this 511...? Trex arms ac1, crye jpc 2.0, etc.
Just buy the PC that carries the weight you need. The Trex arms is meant to run really light. The JPC or MEPC can run light, but can also carry a bit of a load. The MEPC in particular is pretty flexible between light and medium weight. If you need to carry a genuinely heavy load look at a SPC or Shaw, etc. This one seems to slot into the medium weight capacity range. If most guys are being honest they arent carrying around 20lbs of breaching tools or whatever so they don't need a $500 structural PC.

probably should be looking for a "slick plate carrier". Trex arms ac1 would be a good option to try out. Just remember to size plates to her body first, then buy the plate carrier. Most slick plate carriers are size specific, unlike this 511 one where it can use multiple different sized plates.
5.11 Tactec is overpriced for what it delivers. A better competitor is the Defense Mechanisms MEPC. It's around $160 and has a feature set comparable with "gucci" brands like Ferro Concepts or Spiritus for like half the price. I personally own a Spiritus LV119 (because I didn't know any better at the time), but if I had to do it all over again the MEPC would be what I went with.
Funny because lots of soilders have used condor products in combat...they all sat it lasts a couple tours but is a lot more comfortable & lightweight 😉
So my Tac Tech I bought in 2015 that’s still serviceable after 3 deployments and numerous training deployments is what? The intercepter vest I was issued in ‘04 is what? Expand on your vast experience. Teach me oh learned one. Tell me your a clown with no real combat experience without telling me you’re a clown with no combat experience.
The war in Ukraine would say different. Ukraine national police use them and so do many people in the international foreign league defense.. So did the Russians. More pacifically the Muslim guy that does all the MMA matches all of his special forces guys use the it.
They’re hated on mostly by people who have associations with their competitors-let’s be real. I say that as someone with mostly Cyre gear and clothing (also have an abundance of HSP, BFG, SOE, etc.). Like others have said, even Condor stuff was heavily used in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some held up, some didn’t. It just depends on what you’re doing. Most people watching this aren’t gearing up for the most extreme circumstances, like career combat. Most are just looking for something that will help them train and be better prepared for unlikely scenarios. Something like this would do just fine for the majority of those scenarios. Anything more extreme and the people capable of surviving such an ordeal already know what they want and need. One thing is guaranteed, it doesn’t matter how good your gear is, if you don’t actually use it and know how to work with it.
Wayyyy too expensive for what it is. The majority of 5.11s money goes into advertising, not production. $200+ for this is absolutely unacceptable. Get a defense mechanisms or a ferro or if youre REALLY on a budget I'd go condor.. 5.11 is better than condor but its wayyy more expensive and it isnt wayyy better.
No joke about the BLM riots. Lived in a major city in Commiefornia. I had all my gear staged in the doorway ready to go (talking condition 1). It got as close as a few blocks to me. There were buildings being burned down a few towns away Scary stuff.
I hate to disagree but 5.11 absolutely sucks when it comes to making plate carriers and there’s literally a so many small companies you should support other than the hacks at 5.11. Acetac/headsontactical/unobtainium gear/defense mechanisms and a long list of others.
So size and weight are no konger a nutnfanxy talking point? Yup armor is good if you opponent is a good enough to hit it. Talking to guy who have been there and done the work even with plates getting shot is like getting hit full force with a sledgehammer Hopefully you dont get hit under, over or around the armor...
Are you saying you* got shot? I must ask-by what exactly and what kind of armor? Also, was there considerable backface deformation, and was your carrier loose or tight? If mil, I’ve heard stories about the older plates leaving pretty nasty marks, but physics suggests that if it felt that way on the receiving end, it also felt that way in the shoulder of the one who fired it (assuming a shoulder fired weapon). I have some older rifles chambered in some pretty manly calibers that have zero padding on the stocks and even some with metal plates. While a long day on the range can definitely cause bruising, it’s never felt like getting hit in the shoulder by a sledgehammer (and the force is much more concentrated over a smaller area). I’m not doubting your claims, it’s just confusing to me. I’d like to understand the mechanics behind it. If it was soft armor, then that’d definitely make more sense.
@@jackjohnson291 I never have been shot but guys I served with have. Plus you are counting on your attacker actually hitting you in center mass and not hit the 6 to 8 inches to the side of your plate not to mention above and below it. Does armor have a place yes but it does not replace the most important thing. Avoiding a fight if possible
5.11 makes their gear for police. Police that have massive clothing and gear budgets they must burn every year to keep the budget flowing. So you get $80+ dollar pants that wear out inside of a few months from being worn in an office setting. Their plate carriers carry over their philosophy of break early to sustain annual fleecing of taxpayers. 5.11 is solidly the "prosumer" market. If you are just "playing around" well, have fun. If you are betting your life on it, get real tools. But let me ask you.. Who will draw more fire in a bad situation? Mr. Battle Rattle or mister "I got it, but I'm not showing you any of my cards".. Bullet protection is nice. Not getting targeted in the first place is a much better day. But what do I know, I just raise sheep on my little Texas ranch.
I’m not a cop, and I have great distain for government waste. That out of the way-I own probably a couple dozen pairs of 5.11 Stryke pants. I also live and work on a small farm, and I’ve yet to tear a pair up. I still have the first pair I ever bought, some 11-12 years ago, and they’re hardly any worse for wear (color is faded, a few small holes from barb wire and what not, but that’s it). I haven’t had the need to buy a new pair in a long while, so I hope they haven’t cheaped out on quality like most companies have these days… sure would be a shame.
@@jackjohnson291 That's the issue, the recent quality has disgustingly dropped. I as well have the Stryke in a few pairs. But due to a cancer fight, I had to buy some smaller ones in 2022. They didn't even last a full year under much lighter duty. They literally wore out in the crotch area from just walking. The material thin polyester. Purchased at the 5.11 store in Harker Heights Texas. So I went to a new feed and supply store called Murdoch's that opened recently in Killeen. Instead of $80 5.11's, I picked up some $40 MUCH heavier "firehose" material pants that are WAAAY better than anything's 5.11 carries. My youngest nephew is on Houston's SWAT, his wife a Harris County Detective. They gave me the inside scoop of the 5.11 reality.
Dude!...don't come to my house yet!...I'm only 80% ready.!..70 to 80% sounds about right. 5.11 makes plate carriers designed to be used for the crossfit games.....not actual combat
Funny because lots of soilders have used condor products in combat...they all sat it lasts a couple tours but is a lot more comfortable & lightweight 😉
@9:30 sure they do.
Dude, you can’t hang all that stuff on the plate carrier. Too damn heavy bro... Battle Belt FTW...
Haley strategic has a new low vis rig that I got for that price
There are good American made companies if people would just look
My condor works great. I use it for sks load out ATM.
No joke about the BLM riots. Lived in a major city in Commiefornia. I had all my gear staged in the doorway ready to go (talking condition 1). It got as close as a few blocks to me. There were buildings being burned down a few towns away
Scary stuff.
He’s just getting weirder and weirder
Too much velcro for my taste. I prefer Agilite k19. Can find if for the same price of that 5.11 velrco junk.
I hate to disagree but 5.11 absolutely sucks when it comes to making plate carriers and there’s literally a so many small companies you should support other than the hacks at 5.11. Acetac/headsontactical/unobtainium gear/defense mechanisms and a long list of others.
Algo comment.
So size and weight are no konger a nutnfanxy talking point?
Yup armor is good if you opponent is a good enough to hit it.
Talking to guy who have been there and done the work even with plates getting shot is like getting hit full force with a sledgehammer
Hopefully you dont get hit under, over or around the armor...
"About 80% of you would fail."
I like to think of it as having room for improvement. . .
When paying for all your own stuff rather than getting it issued...seems like we're always saving up for or waiting for this item or that thing...coming up with lies to tell the wife...or getting out to test those new additions to our kit to get our system to that ultimate minute man status. All it takes is time and money...all in short supply thanks to uncle Joe and that bunch.
@cbracken55 buy gen 4 night vision first lol 😆 😂 😅 🤣
@@fluffles9591 Na, buy a good shovel and make traps that people with Gen 4 NV will get caught in. 😅
Just jokes-I hate when I see people planning with that kind of mentality.
The 5.11 TacTec was my first PC. It was great for finding out what I DON'T want in a PC. Sold it for a JPC and never looked back.
Raise your hand if a ballistic plate has saved your life. . No one needs a plate carrier. Come on.
Then why are you watching and commenting on the video?
Please tell that to literally every person within 50 miles of a combat zone, LEOs, and so on. If they have a need for it, any self-respecting man who takes responsibility for his own safety and that of his loved ones, friends, and neighbors does as well. Don’t be so obtuse.
gas mask, no? Nutn fails.
Do not shill 5.11 tactical gear.
You could get a dm mepc, a spiritus, a used fcpc, or a velocity systems carrier for 50-100 dollars more. They arent even good workout vests
Who's going to tell him? 😂
I already did!
Tell him what? 😲
He won’t listen
There are plenty of us made carriers for the same price that do a better job
@@NTurman true
Ugh don't recommend cheap crapo nylon. LBE and holsters really are buy once crye once gear. Don't buy cheap buy twice.
FAIL! WHAT!! I'M 65 WITH COPD AND A BAD BACK. ILL JUST HIDE BEHIND A ROCK AND EMPTY ALL MY MAGS. LOL 😆 🤣 😅😊 Hay Nut-n, I've switched to Romble. F this blow tube.😮
Just use the infinite rocket launcher cheat code...
LTC Nutnfancy you're in the wrong lane. Officers (retried or not) suck ass at pitching gear reviews and giving classes.
Leave that to the old NCO's.
Dude dude dude dude dude
I can’t wait for this guys video after the VP wins the presidency
Wins or is fraudulently given the position?
*is installed.
Not any more than we can wait to see you meltdown when she doesn’t win.
Had that crap 5.11 Tac Tec as my first carrier over a decade ago. Way too bulky and the plate bags are way oversized since it is one size fits all. Cumber bun is trash. I sold it and got a Ferro Concepts FCPC V5 and haven't looked back. The FCPC is way better fitting and is sized to your plates, so no extra material to tuck and fold.
It depends on the situation but I can be good in 60 minutes or less. Everything is ready and tested but always go through a checklist.
It takes you an hour to find all your stuff?
Dude... it's MINTUEman... not 60MINUTEman.
For $220 you can get something that is worth a shit and 5.11 is not it! I would suggest the Slickster from Ferro especially for a first time purchaser. The AC1 isn’t bad choice either.
5.11 is cheap Chinese crap
There are American companies that make better stuff for the same amount of money. Come on nutn
I’m kitted out like a Rhodesian bush war soldier. Basic airsoft Ar and airsoft shotgun.
