I'm 62, 42-year pro musician, songwriter, producer, engineer, professor of music and I still nearly sob with each of his songs. Jacob Collier is one of those rare experiences we get once every century or so. He is this century's Mozart; a man of extraordinary talent in many many areas and instruments and as another of you said, he also has a special wisdom for one so young. Music when it's perfectly in tune, emotionally delivered and well-crafted will always touch the soul of man. This is why in the Judeo-Christian biblical texts you hear of David going into the King with his harp -- and the Judeo-Christian bible states "and it changed the heart of the king". Music by its very nature is "manipulative"… Though I hate that word, because it usually has a negative connotation, it is the very nature of music to change the soul. To change it from what to what is where danger can come in… But with Jacob C, we're always taken on a journey of love, acceptance, curiosity and therapeutic soothing. As he's been maturing these last few years, it's become less about all of the expanded chords he can possibly put into one song and more about taking us on a journey. Enjoy the journey! There won't be another like him in our lifetimes.
As a person struggling with grief, I've found htis song touching and allows me to let my tears flow and come closer to my son at the same time. This is my hug to you.
The healing genius of Jacob Collier comes at a time when our world sorely needs healing. May he survive and thrive and lead us forward to a a more loving and compassionate existence. 🌸🥀🌺
I cry every time I hear Little Blue. I was lucky enough to see him live in Toronto. He has an innate ability to connect with people, not just as a performer, but as a person. His philosophy on life is aspirational, but he is living it. Jacob Collier is a gift. If you get a chance to see some of the clinics and interviews, you'll see what I mean.
For all his extraordinary technical gifts, there is an honesty, a generosity and a sense of wisdom and compassion that belies his youthful exuberance, and is uutterly disarming. He has to deal with people telling him he's a genius about 500 times a day, which could either be intoxicating, suffocating or possibly both - bad for a person, in any case. Somehow (I suspect through time spent in deep introspection) he manages to wear his gifts lightly and graciously, like one of the chaotically colourful coats that would look ridiculous on anybody other than him. He could easily slip into being a virtuousic show-off, but instead he wants, quite genuinely, to show us the wonderful and beautiful things he has the good fortune to find within himself. It's as if his ego is quite seperate from his gift, which is amazing, because the two so often get tangled. His sensitivity to the hues and shades of feeling is at once profound and yet innocent as a child. He touches people, I've noticed, even when he's just hanging out. His native musical talent, and all the work he has put into developing it, are of course more than most of us (myself included) can fully comprehend; but he is also a remarkable, luminous human being. Maybe I sound crazy - but I'm not religious and I don't mean to imbue him with supernatural powers, but he shares with the world some part of him that parts of himself that is very precious, and touches something very human in anyone cares to listen. I know there are people who can't bear him, not that he minds, _chacun a son goût_ and all that, but I cant help feeling they're missing the point, and therefore missing out. Not you though ma'am, you heard him loud and clear, just when you needed him most. Losing a parent is a profound moment in our lives, a farewell to the person who gave us life. You'll not forget this song in a hurry, and I hope it will always connect you to your dad in a way that comforts you and makes you smile. Memories are painful in the first throes of grief, but over time they mellow, hopefully, and become like good friends.
I experienced Jacob and his band Sunday evening in the Grand Ole Opry (AMAZING hall, btw). I bought tickets solely because of the audience choir videos, and "Little Blue"-- I had no knowledge at all of his other work. Well. In my nearly 70 years on this planet, I have never experienced a show like this, and do not expect to again, unless it's another Jacob Collier concert. His skills, his musicality, his humanity, his passion and compassion... and his sculpting the audience into an ethereal choir (not once, but twice!)... It's now Wednesday and I'm still feeling incredibly honored to have known this magical thing. Your reaction to "Little Blue" mirrored my own. What a marvelous thing it is to be able to touch the heart and to help bring a little healing.
Fun fact: the group singing with him were basically fans who responded to a social media post. Fun fact 2: Jacob’s guitar has been purposely made with only 5 strings. There is a video on YT called “How Jacob Collier reinvented the guitar”. If you want to see what i consider his magnum opus, please react to “Moon River” (see how nany famous faces you can pick out of the intro) …or a more recent cut, “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, featuring Yebba, John Legend and Tori Kelly… both are master class worthy.
I personally believe that Jacob is healing the world with his music. I am not referring to the words alone but more to the tonality and purity of harmony that he achieves. I have watched this twice, over a period of a couple of months in between, and cried both times. Not for loss, but for something deeper within me, touched by the sheer melodic intensity. I am aware however that something cathartic takes place every time I watch Jacob perform, whether he is on his own, or with his audience choirs. This video has both at the same time, and for me is the most powerful music I have listened to in many years. Bless you for going through this and sharing. 🙏
Well put. I firmly believe he has started a movement that is changing the world through his music, and ability, but more importantly his humbleness and view of the world and what harmony can bring to it. He talks a lot about using music to bring people together. The way he incorporates his audience into his shows as another instrument at his disposal is remarkable. I saw him in Atlanta on this Djesse Volume 4 tour he is presently on and I can't begin to tell you the incredible power and feeling of togetherness and peace I felt at his show. Still, I can just think about that show and I feel it all over again. I'm only 6 months into my journey as a fan of him and it's only growing. He speaks to your soul when he sings. I understand the way she feels when she keeps crying. It's my therapy. I wish I had found him long ago. Music touches you and creates feelings that no other thing in life can bring about.
How wonderful that you have experienced his talent at a live performance. As both a musician and vocalist whilst also having been a medium and sensitive, I would also say that his music is spiritually palpable, and that this shows clearly in your strong recollection of being at his concert. It is also so strong, that it is perceivable through the screen, I listen with professional studio headphones, which brings out the depth of his abilities. As you rightly say, " . . . speaks to your soul".
Welcome to Jacob Collier's world. He is out of this world amazing. I've been watching a bunch of reaction videos of Jacob Collier and they've all been a blast. Jacob Collier is definitely a rabbit hole. I also can't stop listening to his arrangement of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel that he does with Yebba, John Legend, and Tori Kelly. Both "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Little Blue" are from his latest album.
I listen to this regularly. I also went to see him live just last week, and it’s an experience beyond words. I highly, highly recommend checking out more of his work. It’s all beautiful. I have plenty of suggestions for every mood, if you’d like any!
Eh, may as well plug them here for anyone who cares: Summer Rain (he has multiple versions, including a mahogany session), Make Me Cry (also a mahogany session), Bridge Over Troubled Waters (mind boggling), Moon River (also mind boggling), Hideaway, and so many more
It is striking to me that he describes how he chooses the notes and keys and chords by how they make him feel. Then when he puts them all together, the feelings are huge.
You should attend a concert. Just saw him recently in Tampa, and you'll incredibly enjoy him leading the audience in harmonies during a good portion of the concert. It's quite a powerful experience. One you'll never forget.
My husband makes fun of me that I get SO excited over Jacob's music... it's like discovering a joyful treasure that deeply touches on an emotional level ..just wonderful (PS: With Jacob's gift like this ..think of the God that created music..how awesome can eternity be💖🙏🎶...! )
Never apologise for expressing your emotions, especially when listening to Jacob Collier. Jacob has the power to bring most people to tears, he’s a musical wizard. You’ll have to delve into his works in depth, he will truly blow your mind. I would suggest his masterpiece “In the real early morning” the original is amazing, but when he rewrote it for an entire orchestral suite and performed it at the proms, it became magic in motion. I highly recommend it ✌🏼❤️🎵🎶
I had the pleasure of seeing Jacob live in Kansas City on 5/31. I've been to a lot of live performances in my life and I've never seen a crowd so singularly engaged in a performance before. When he signaled for areas in the crowd to sing at certain ranges it was like a choir appeared all around me. The whole experience sent butterflies through my stomach. Jacob is an extremely rare talent and I was honored to attend this show. I think he has a very long and prolific career ahead of him and can't wait to see what else he has in store for us in the future.
yes.. a great advertisement.. the best music teachers understand that notes are just there to express emotions.. a wonderful reaction.. me crying too..
This version makes me cry every time. I’m crying rn. The way he harmonizes during his use of suspended and diminishing chords is just incredible and deeply emotional
I weep every time I listen to it. It’s such a good song that every reaction celebrity just stops and lets it play for the most part. Music is the only thing that makes life fair.
I recently lost my step dad that meant the world for my mom.. it's hard seeing her be alone.. she's normally very stoic and strong, but after a glass of wine or two, her defenses come down and she just wells up and you can feel the pain ripping though her heart because of how much she misses him.. it's been 8 months and she's still not ready, but there will be a day when I'll show her this version of Little Blue, and we'll cry some good cathartic tears together to mourn her loss and I'll remind her of the fact that she's not alone and that she is still loved by everyone around her until her last moment here on earth..
For such a young man, Jacob shows an amazing maturity; Couple that with his genius for putting the human emotions to music, then that surely is pure genius. Much love to you missy. ❤❤❤❤
I saw him at Radio City Music Hall last month and it was the most unbelievable experience I've ever had. We did the audience choir in this song, and another one where he brought his mother out to play violin. We were the choir and she was playing and he was singing "God only knows where I'd be without you". I was moved to tears many times that night lol
Ma'am, as someone myself in late stage progressive MS, and a lifetime musician (since my days as a Westmister Abbey chorister), I share with you my unbridled admiration for Jacob Collier's prodigious talent. He's not called the modern-day Mozart without deserving the title. I have stood in awe of people under whom I have sung, from Aaron Copeland, Britten, and Klemperer to McCartney, but Jacob stands head and shoulders above them in his expressive musicality. ❤ Be blessed in Faith.
Your reaction hit me so hard! I lost my dad in late 2022 and then 6 months later to the day my mom passed. I saw Jacob Collier a few weeks ago and it just stunned me and inspired me as a composer! I cried watching your reaction because it was so genuine and I just wanted to thank you as this helps me heal. Thank you again!!! 😅
I've probably watched this 50 times and there's chills every single time the choir comes in. For a bunch of strangers who just responded to a request on Instagram to help out, they understood their role perfectly. Of course, having a "musical director" like Jacob is a great start.
For a song with equal emotional punch and with a more explicit message for those of us facing dire circumstances, please listen to his choral composition, World O World, on his new album Djesse Vol. 4. Bring tissues. He doesn’t perform, but it is his most remarkable composition in my view. It hits hard for me and will for you, too.
This is probably my favorite reaction on TH-cam because of your authentic response. Truly a first reaction of the highest order. Thanks for letting us view this ...
Thank you for this. No need to apologise for the tears. Isn't it wonderful how music can touch us so deeply? I recommend Jacob's cover of Moon River. It's the only slam dunk masterpiece I've heard so far in the 21st century. I wish you well.
Watched Michael, and then you. This has to be the most emotional piece I have EVER watched. To watch Michael, he could not even comment, I could see in his eyes he was awestruck . And YOU, with the tears, was too much to take in. His arrangement of this simple comp shows his genius
First of all, my heart goes out to you. Watching you react to this touched me deeply. I know grief and the part that music plays in healing all too well. I began following Jacob a few years ago when I lost my Wife and he has been a beacon of light to me in so many ways. I would suggest you find his recent release of "Bridge over troubled water", put on the headphones and behold one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. As a vocal coach, be prepared to be overwhelmed in the best way possible.
Thoughts are with you. I cried along with you. Jacob's music has a profound emotional effect on us all. May I suggest a complete change of pace and react to his astonishing video of "All Night Long" (Lionel Richie cover) that he did with Take 6? You're going to love this rabbit hole, and it may be coming at a good time when you need comfort the most. Take care.
Jacob has an ability to join the music to the soul and speak to the heart of the listener. He is truly one of a kind. His use of his voice as an instrument is other worldly.
Music level by Jacob -- Epic (as always). Humanity shown by you - Beautiful. Thank you for honestly allowing us to feel this with you. As an aside, those weren't trained singers (with one notable exception), they were people who responded to an ad to show up at the church to help Jacob with a song. Some of the dissonance was because they weren't trained, and I think it makes it an even more incredible experience.
I've listened to Little Blue hundreds of times but this time, I found myself crying along with you. I've also been dealing with lots of heavy grief recently and honestly, I just wanted to send you a hug (or many). I'm a big fan of Jacob Collier, and especially his frequent quote of "There is no wrong note, you just have to put it in the right context" has hugely expanded both my music and my art in other areas. I very much recommend looking into more of his stuff! Personally I'm a big fan of the songs Lua and Summer Rain but other great ones include his Moon River and Time Alone With You. Wishing you all the best. Grief isn't easy
I just discovered Jacob. He blows me away. His energy, his mastery of chords and runs on the piano are flawless. The way he goes between every instrument with such energy and includes the audience in the performance is magical. Brilliant
Thank you for sharing what must've been a very vulnerable experience for you... But I'm glad you've found Jacob, his sense of tender musicality is out of this world. I recommend you watch next his performance of Wild Mountain Thyme featuring Laufey and Dodie. You'll see the actual audience doing this too :)
I'm struggling with a family member passing away. I can only say that your reaction to the song broke me into tears, tears of sadness and tears of joy. But it was so relieving. Thank you for being so authentic.
I remember the first time I watched this cover by Jacob, it also brought me to tears in a way I don't think any other song has done. Thank you for this beautiful reaction, I cried with you if it makes you feel better. Also, I'm sorry to hear your going through a tough time with your father, sending you and your family love from the UK
Aww,baby girl. Wish I could give you a hug. I lost mine 20 years ago. I know I saw it coming doesn’t make it any less painful. Know that you’re loved in this community.
Jacob is a joy. I have tickets to see him in a few weeks, and am looking forward to it. There are many Jacob performances, but I recommend one of the others recorded at this session, "Summer Rain". No choir, but he's joined by the amazing Madison Cunningham and Chris Thile. Beautiful performance. Much love sent your way.
Missy, love and peace to you! I only just so happened to find this video, but my first time hearing this song was the same for me, cathartic, emotional, yet so powerfully healing.
Thanks for just being you, Missy. I hadn't watch you in a while and I was so pissed that I couldn't remember your name. Now its just a handful of days later and you popped into my thread for listen!!! I'm a programmer, but a musician hobbyist, and I'm working up the courage to put myself in for a consult. Blessing your way!
This was the best way for me to watch this version of one of my favourite songs ever. Thanks so much for sharing! Seeing him do this live is just unbelievable... imagine the whole audience doing the choir! He's an incredible musician and a beautiful human. Peace to you and what you are going through.
I had a similar reaction my first time hearing this performance and it was repeated watching it with you :') can't stop tearing up on this one I also just went to a VIP experience at the Greek in LA and the concert was a religious experience
Thanks so much for the heartfelt reaction video. Even more impressive that the choir were not even professional singers, just a bunch of fans So looking forward to seeing him In London in December, with Tori Kelly, another incredible vocalist.
You should also watch the breakdown of Moon River, and how he changes keys using micro-tonality. It's rare enough to have perfect pitch, but the ability to sing micro-tonally also or with just intonation or not is just crazy.
His mother is a maestro. He said in one interview that she plays damn near every instrument he knows of and she's pitch perfect. You can tell that he was such a sponge taking in as much as he could musically from her while growing up.
Something people don’t talk about enough is the recording technique of truly capturing the sound of the room. There’s a natural, organic, raw feel achieved with those condenser mics.
My first time hearing that particular song and I'm bawling too. I'm not grieving a person but I am grieving in an existential way. To deal with my grief I'm finally getting serious about being an artist and working on starting a community, under the name DarkLight, so yeah this hit me in the deep feels.

Thank you for your beautiful explanation of some of Jacob's gifts that he shares with the world!
Jacob Collier is a gift to the planet and humanity.
Stay strong.
This is what Jacob Collier's music does to people. It's a gift.
As a person struggling with grief, I've found htis song touching and allows me to let my tears flow and come closer to my son at the same time. This is my hug to you.
May the Good Lord protect him and keep him safe. He is precious.
The healing genius of Jacob Collier comes at a time when our world sorely needs healing. May he survive and thrive and lead us forward to a a more loving and compassionate existence. 🌸🥀🌺
I also cry every time I hear this guy... He plays directly from heaven

We saw him sing this last night in concert in San Francisco. I don’t think anyone there was not crying. So emotional. So heart felt. So sacred.
I was there too and can confirm my tears. 😊
I do not see a vocal coach in this video, i see an human heart crying and a beautiful soul

@@brianmi40 I knew about her, but the rest had never met him before and we're just fans in the area.
Missy, there are no words, Jacob already sang them, just a strong warm and long hug the size of Brazil. Thank you for allowing us to be by his side.
Some say that human language evolved out of song. I believe it. Thanks.
I would suggest you find his recent release of "Bridge over troubled water", put on the headphones and behold one of the most
beautiful things I've ever heard. As a vocal coach, be prepared to be overwhelmed in the best way possible.
Jacob needs to watch this and chime in. His tallent is changing the world one heart at a time.
Take care.
Sublime ~ As many of us travel far the hidden world of grief.
The tears do disappear and you are full of love, for the memories
🤎🧡❤️💛🤍💚💙💜🕊
Jacob has an ability to join the music to the soul and speak to the heart of the listener. He is truly one of a kind. His use of his voice as an instrument is other worldly.
I think , at least for a few moments, you may have received grace.
Thank you for sharing this with all who watched.
Thank you from me.
I’m touched. Thank you 🙏 Feel exactly the same when listening to Jacob
I'm very sorry about your father. I've been through something similar, and am going through it again now. Music really helps.
Massive hug.
That room is what love sounds like.
I just discovered Jacob. He blows me away. His energy, his mastery of chords and runs on the piano are flawless. The way he goes between every instrument with such energy and includes the audience in the performance is magical. Brilliant
Thanks for the lovely reaction, and for the pun of complimenting him on "wearing all of those hats" :)
I saw him at the Kennedy Center last year. THE most amazing concert I’ve been to. Absolutely incredible.
I hope Jacob gets to see this. How he would EXALT!!! The first section is some of the best youtube content I've ever seen. We all felt it, thank you.
Dear sister. Thankyou so much for sharing your tears. It's hard losing loved ones, and big hug from Canada.
Thank you for sharing your reaction to this song. I was crying along with you, even though I have heard this before. Big hugs.
I'm struggling with a family member passing away. I can only say that your reaction to the song broke me into tears, tears of sadness and tears of joy. But it was so relieving. Thank you for being so authentic.
The heart is the home of music - Jacob has the key. Thank you son - again. ❤️🎶. A hug for you in your grief. ❤️🫂
Big love from across the pond in the UK 🇬🇧 at this trying time..and love to your family and any other folks experiencing similar 💙
The power of music 100%... Your reaction was genuine and lovely... nice to see some real +
Was lucky to meet him once on his first tour. His music makes me cry too.
little blue is one of those songs i got lost in my tears of as well, thank you and i hope you find peace in this song like i did missy
Misssyyyy i can only pray for the bestt for your fatherr, Stayyy stronggg we will give you our best support Misssyy!!!!
Hang in there sweetheart! I just lost my dad and it's been very difficult. Keep the good times in your thoughts.
Missy, love and peace to you! I only just so happened to find this video, but my first time hearing this song was the same for me, cathartic, emotional, yet so powerfully healing.
Thank you! And Yes, you'll go down a rabbit hole following him ... a healing one and full of joy.
Missy we love you. I am sending you all the love in the world.
If emotional is what you want, In the Real Early Morning with the Metropole Orkest
Great response. Thank you! Your authenticity was cathartic to me. Perhaps everybody could use a good cry on occasion.
First time viewer.
I wish you all the best in grieving. Didn’t plan on crying today but this was beautiful.
❤🙏thank you for your beautiful reaction.. May bring even more comfort to you and your loved ones and to all who listen to this song!
I haven't lost anybody recently and I couldn't stop crying either.
Same. A second before her..
We will all lose all of us...
This was the best way for me to watch this version of one of my favourite songs ever. Thanks so much for sharing! Seeing him do this live is just unbelievable... imagine the whole audience doing the choir! He's an incredible musician and a beautiful human. Peace to you and what you are going through.
I don't think I'm struggling with anything in particular and I cried just like that
It makes us all cry sweetie!!
Crying right along with you 💕
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers ❤
Oh my, what you shared touched me deeply. thank you and woah what an amazing performance!
Loved this. Thought you were so courageous to show your feelings on air!! Jacob’s turned my music life around…
Glad to see you. I saw a spirit today. I gave cried fir years after hearing a certain type of music. Glad to know there more of us.
BLESS YOUR BEAUTIFUL HEART... YOU ARE LOVED...
Thinking of you and your dad ..God bless him❤
I had a similar reaction my first time hearing this performance and it was repeated watching it with you :') can't stop tearing up on this one
I also just went to a VIP experience at the Greek in LA and the concert was a religious experience
Always i have to cry - this song is sooo lovely !
Thanks so much for the heartfelt reaction video.
Even more impressive that the choir were not even professional singers, just a bunch of fans
So looking forward to seeing him In London in December, with Tori Kelly, another incredible vocalist.
I also love this. you might like to react to Laufey, dodie and Jacob doing Wild Mountain Thyme. :)
I had roughly the same reaction you did. The ability this song has to move you cannot be understated. Heartachingly gorgeous!
Much love, good Luck❤
You should also watch the breakdown of Moon River, and how he changes keys using micro-tonality. It's rare enough to have perfect pitch, but the ability to sing micro-tonally also or with just intonation or not is just crazy.
Awesome. Thank you for being so generous with sharing it all.
Jacobs understanding of music theory is highly advanced, among many other things.
World O World with the Official Score by J.Collier.
Make sure you have a friend or
loved one scrape you off the ceiling. ❤
