    I dont really care about lucid dreaming but i write my dreams so i can remember them

    Thankfully I've never had a real issue of dream journaling. Sometimes I write just short entries for fragments if I don't remember much, while other times I have a long dream that's half a page or even a full page. I also sometimes write "quick notes" at the top of the night's entry, just a keyword or two to jog my memory.

    I tend to have dreams of driving, and I am definitely aware of that, but I feel like I’m more focused on the road than whether or not I’m dreaming.. which is probably a good thing in the waking world but not so much in the dream world.

    • @Tipharot
      @Tipharot  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a tough one, obviously it wouldn't be safe to advise doing random reality checks mid driving - other than perhaps the one where you look at text, look away, and look back, as this can be done with road signs and without distracting yourself from the drive.
      That said, if you're ever feeling that nagging suspicion, it may be worth finding some place you can stop and perform a reality check.

    • @citrusn
      @citrusn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Tipharot I never thought about doing roadsigns; that's actually pretty smart. But in general, I always feel really tense while on the road and sometimes it's hard to focus on anything else because of that. Usually my dreams have me nearly avoiding accidents, which makes it really hard to stop and do a reality check then. So I'm just hoping the car dreams become less common.

      @@citrusn driving is a very common dream theme for me also. You just need to find some way to remain mindful while driving so that you will more readily notice any dreamsigns/situations that closely resemble your driving dreams. What I do is look for personalized licence plates that spell something. Whenever I spot one I will do a quick text test with it. This works really well when stopped at a light. This will keep your mind from wondering (which is so easy to do while driving) and thus help you drive safer since you're more focused on what's going on around you on the road. This will make it easier to spot dreamsigns and will help you get in the habit of reality testing while driving : )

    Mistake #6 - dream signs. This just doesn't work for me... E.g. I often see dead relatives. I put them down as dream signs in my journal. But when I do see them in a dream I say "hey, but you're dead" and they always seem to have some plausible explanation as to why they are still alive!!

    • @keithpeabt777
      @keithpeabt777 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yup same for me, i have a hard time 'logic'ing my way into a lucid dream like that cos my brain always finds some random way to explain it

    • @Tipharot
      @Tipharot  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It might sound silly, but audibly saying aloud to yourself that when you see your dead relatives it means you're in a dream - can make a big difference over simply noticing the dream sign in your dream journal. You can also add/specify the fact that they might try to convince you otherwise, or couple it with something else, for example, saying aloud to yourself "If I see [x] it means I need to do a reality check, whether I think they should be there or not".

      Criticality is good here too, and MILD is great for things like this. If you did MILD with a dream like this, when you're imagining the dream and picking out dream signs, acknowledge that them being there is a dream sign, and make your first association when noticing a dead relative not "how did they get here," but "this is a dream sign." Then, when imagining getting lucid, pick that as the dream sign you use, where you notice the dead relative and imagine getting lucid at that moment in the dream, then rescripting the rest of the dream to imagine doing things you'd like to do while lucid. A good approach to those dream signs in my view.

    Im definitely guilty of #4. Ive had times where I didnt want to wake up right away to write a dream I had. But in hindsight, I probably should have at least wrote something about it because it could have actually been a decent memory.

    Wanted to note, there are 2 types of dream signs, just standard dream signs, or anything out of place in any way, anything with a low chance of happening while awake, or anything with a high chance of happening in your dreams. Then there are recurring dream signs, those themes or dream signs that repeat across your dreams. Both are useful in my view, as even one-off or not common dream signs can help train someone to learn to be more critical and recognize dream signs in the future.
    Just at the end of the video, and yes, you mentioned reviewing your dreams before bed. This is actually good for dream recall as well, and pairs well with setting intentions before bed to remember dreams when you wake up.
    Do you discuss anything else for dream recall other than journaling? You kind of touched on one we recommend a bit, where you lay in bed and think about your dreams or experiences around when you wake up and go to bed, but we recommend doing this immediately when you wake up and in a specific way. Laying in the sleeping position you wake up in, think about what you were just dreaming, thinking, experiencing with your senses, feeling emotionally, etc. If you just get vague emotions or thoughts, try to think why you got those thoughts. If you got nothing, try to consider possibilities for what you could have been dreaming about. If you get dream scenes, work your way backwards from end to beginning to get as much detail as you can. Once done in the sleeping position you woke up in, move to other sleeping positions if you sleep in other positions throughout the night, and repeat the procedure. This works off state dependent memory, as dreams associate to the position you were in when you dreamt them, and also, more recent memories are easier to recall in general, and they associate with the memories that happened before them, which is why you work in reverse. On Discord, we call this dream delving. The scientific community recommends this as well, but they do not give this a name. I actually discussed this at the International Dream Conference with people I met there as to why this method of recall should have a name but doesn't. The opposing viewpoint is that there are too many names for things already, so it doesn't warrant one. I generally agree with this, but there's not a name to describe this specific thing, and that naming issue usually crops up with WILD techniques as there are so many. Anyway, just a bit of my thoughts and ramblings.

    • @Tipharot
      @Tipharot  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I like that term - dream delving. I think I'll try to start using that. When advising people to think about anything that was in their mind when they woke up (or prior to falling asleep) it can feel like a bit of a pointless intermediary step to someone who hasn't actually done it before and seen that it can aid dream recall. So actually giving it a name helps solidify it as a valid technique that a beginner will be less likely to get lazy and avoid.
      Another thing I've found immensely helpful for dream recall that I've only ever briefly spoken of in my videos is actually simply making the active decision before you go to sleep to recall your dreams in the morning. My favourite way of doing this (that for me has been the most effective) is to agree with a friend to text each other our dreams immediately after we wake up. I consistently recall a high number of dreams when doing this. I've even tried this at points when I'd taken a break from lucid dreaming practice and dream journaling - and so was only remembering 0-2 dreams per night, and noticed that I would consistently remember 3-4 on average on the nights where I did this, even coming from 0 the night before. This is actually a more rapid increase than dream journaling is for me (if I've neglected my journal so much as to be at the point of often recalling 0 dreams, then it often takes 2-3 days of dream journaling before I'm back at 3-4+ dreams, and then 4-5 days before I'm back at 5+). So I think the thoughts and intention we take into sleep can be as important as (if not sometimes more so than) the moments after. This is something I want to touch on more in future videos.

    • @SkyfallBlindDreamer
      @SkyfallBlindDreamer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Tipharot That making an active decision part, that's exactly what setting an intention is, deciding to do something in the future, usually associated with some form of trigger or triggering event. I always emphasize that when describing setting intentions to people. It's not just repeating something to yourself, as this can be done mindlessly. It's making a decision to do something in the future, and I like the term active decision, so will likely be using that as well. The 2 things I've found that help with an intention are how often or much someone thinks about the decision they made and how important the decision is to them personally. Those 2 factors seem to do a lot with whether or not one will remember an intention they set. I also like to demystify intentions. There's nothing difficult, abnormal, or odd about setting intentions. Any time we decide to do something at a later point in time we've set an intention, and I think normalizing this process and explaining it in the context of the human experience is helpful for people who've never heard the term before and think it's something unreliable or something they can't do.

    Hey Matt, (this is a very long paragraph and please answer me😭😭no one is answering me)I always wake up from a dream in like 5:30 or 6 am and i don't know if i finish a rem and wake up or not,but I got an idea to check for this and I forgot this technique exist, deild. So im going to use deild from now on when I get the chance but I have two major issues.
    1) As i said I wake up from dreaming at 6am and i usually wake up normally at 8am. (this time is when I have to go to school but if it is holiday then I will wake up around 10am or even 11am)this has became a major problem to lucid dreaming, because of me sleeping too long,i have vivid dreams around 7or8or9am😭😭 how can I do ld techniques if there's light outside and full of noise in my house😭😭 can you suggest me some tips on changing my sleep cycle.
    2) this is not a problem but when I wake up from my dreams and naturally drift into it again,I can't move and i can feel my body in bed and if i try so hard to move my real body moves and i wake up,any tips.😅
    I'm not a native English speaker

    • @SkyfallBlindDreamer
      @SkyfallBlindDreamer ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are able to fall asleep, you are able to lucid dream. DEILD is decent, but opportunistic. If you fully wake up, then the opportunity is gone. If you're starting to wake up but haven't fully woken up, that's when you do DEILD. You could always try WILD as well, or do MILD with the dream you woke up from to help set intention to get lucid in the next dream. Plenty of opportunities here.
      If you're in the dream but have problems moving, try imagination movement. It's a form of dream control where you imagine doing the movement you want to do. It works like all other dream control, so based on your strongest associations and emotions in a given moment, but is extremely low effort compared to actual movement, and bypasses issues that could come if you're having trouble trying to move. If you're not fully asleep yet, you could be experiencing hypnagogic hallucinations or sleep paralysis, though the latter is one that most people won't experience more than a couple times in a lifetime, but if you've been getting it your entire life, that'd be different. Not sure if you've transitioned into a dream at this point or not, but that's my take on it.

    • @Tipharot
      @Tipharot  ปีที่แล้ว

      @teabiscuit417 You mention waking up from a dream. Provided that this was a vivid multi-sensory dream, this usually confirms to me that I'm in REM, and it's usually safe for me to perform a technique that requires or benefits from having woken up during REM.
      As for performing techniques or getting back to sleep when it's light outside, get yourself an eye mask/sleep mask. Don't buy a fancy one. Literally get one of the dirt cheap ones you can get for a couple of dollars/euros/the cheapest equivalent amount in your local currency. They're often just as good at blocking out light as the more expensive ones.
      They're awesome because not only do they make it easier to sleep when it's light outside, but they tend to result in sounder sleep and more vivid dreams.

      @@teabiscuit417 I'm not always the most consistent myself though I should be. Light in the room doesn't bother me as I'm blind. It's sound that is more bothersome, specifically new sounds being introduced into my ambient auditory environment. In terms of adjusting a sleep cycle, you could try consistently waking yourself up at a certain time with the goal of going to sleep at a certain time to get a consistent amount of sleep. If the issue isn't you getting enough sleep just the time you're sleeping, this could work, though would require a degree of discipline and structure to follow through on. If there's something keeping you from falling and staying asleep, then there could be a medical or related issue that none of us here would be qualified to help you with.

      This is a good question. Technically even though gameplay footage is usually perfectly tolerated and treated differently than say footage from a movie, it actually still has the same strict copyright requirements as using other media - where work needs to be transformative to be considered fair use and not in violation of copyright.
      That said, as I mentioned, gameplay footage is usually treated differently, with most companies not minding if footage from their games is used, so long as it's not done so in a way that somehow defames the game or company (excluding negative reviews, where the work is still clearly transformative).
      In the case of Rockstar, they've helped content creators out by publishing guidelines for the use of footage from their games: support.rockstargames.com/articles/200153756/Policy-on-posting-copyrighted-Rockstar-Games-material

      I'd call it fair use, especially because it's only supplementary (i.e. not the focus of the video). If you were making lots of money off playing their games, maybe there'd be an issue, but otherwise I'd say it's fine (like I have some GTA music videos on my own channel)
