  • Here's the native video footage coming from the real Galaxian3 arcade laserdisc.
    The game uses two LD players and combines their video output to produce a wide cinema 8:3 format picture. In short this video combines the left and right screens.
    The laserdisc used for this video is the one I currently run into my Galaxian 3 Theater 6
    All the video digitalization/capture/reassembling pictures has been done by Warren Ondras in 2012.
    All the video footage is (C) Namco 1992, all rights reserved.

    so much nostalgia.... my dad and i were the reason many at the arcade we played this at seen the good ending. People couldn't get that they had to take rolls and not just try to shoot everything on screen. The jobs we tended to assign (we generally were sought after to help other groups win) were center two focused on objective targets and fighters, outer two focused on defence such as shooting down incoming missiles and the ones between helped out whatever team needed the most. Once you actually realized that, winning was easy and everyone tended to get pretty good scores.

    I'm glad the pre-rendered footage has been preserved at least. I remember playing this for the first time in a 6 gun setup in Dave and Busters with my family although there were only four of us. We managed to beat it on the first go, which was a first victory for my mom who had played the game before. After that we split up and played the games that caught our individual attention for the rest of our stay, with me and my brother playing the coin pushers and other ticket games near the end as it was something of a tradition to win a shot glass or two on our rare visits. In the end, we got together and had enough credits between us to go another round on Galaxian Theater although I think one of us had to sit out. Unfortunately we didn't manage to take down the final core in time and got the bad ending, which hit me harder than any other video game bad ending up to that point even though I think we technically defeated the enemy, but not before they fired the weapon that destroyed the earth. It was a real downer to end on and stuck with me for years after that. The game was a blast, though. Same it was long gone by the time I visited again a couple of years later, but that wasn't exactly unheard of for Dave and Busters star attractions.
    When I went there as a kid one time (I don't recall the exact year but they had a Gameboy pocket as a big ticket prize and we were celebrating my birthday so got a bunch of credits, they had this tilting and rotating cockpit machine that wasn't a game, but you would get inside and be buckled in and it would play a video of you flying a fighter pilot with chatter from tour wingmen amd the machine would tilt and roll along with your ship and you ended up flying inside of an alien vore worm and blasting your way out and it was like a thrill ride. Apparently there were other video scenarios as other patrons that had rode it in the past recalled different experiences. Me and my brothers all experienced the same scenario, then pooled our credits to try to earn enough tickets to win the Gameboy pocket, at one point having to have more credits put on by our mom who was a Saint that day and gave me a birthday to remember. We got the Gameboy in the end, although with what my mom spent buying us credits to spend earning tickets she could've bought all three of us a Gameboy pocket with cash, which I realized when I mentally tallied up how much money my mom had loaded on our cards just for ticket games. My older brother, who lived with my mom while me and my younger brother lived with my dad in no small part due to said older brother making our childhoods hell, ended up taking the Gameboy for himself eventually, which was a downer as I was living with my younger brother and dad at the time and my OG Gameboy and copy of Pokémon Red had been stolen from our trailer along with our Playstation and SNES consoles and games not long prior when we were visiting my mom while my dad was out of town leaving the trailer vacant.
    This ended up being the beginning our tradition of weekend yard sale hunting for retro consoles and games back when you could get a box with an NES, SNES, and some random games for like $7, and if the AC adaptor was missing they sold them at radio shack, while loose games were generally $.50-$2.00, possibly less or free if you checked back in the afternoon and they hadn't sold, which is how I got Metroid for $1. Meanwhile, my dad put an N64 on layaway the following year and it took basically all year to pay I off on his disability pension. That year, however, while my dad provided what Christmas presents he could afford and they were much appreciated, especially the Pokémon card packs (base and jungle) in the stockings that would be worth a fortune if we left them sealed in a vault instead of opening and enjoying them, me and my brother also got to go to my mom's for Christmas where we each got a Gameboy pocket, Pokémon red for me, blue for my bro, and each got our own copy of the player's guide which was nice as the guide had a sheet of stickers of each Pokémon so there would be no arguing over the stickers. I didn't think anything could top that, but my mom followed up next Christmas with Gameboy Colors and Gold and Silver, sequels I didn't even know were out yet at the time. The next Christmas she got us a PSOne and some games, and my dad was able to afford some greatest hits for us over the year like the Final Fantasy games, and the last Christmas surprise she got for us before we eventually moved in with her due to my father's failing health was a GBA and GameCube with both Metroid games (my favorite series, and a favorite of my mom's as well) and a personal TV each for me and my younger brother. Before that we had like an 8 inch TV with a case that wasn't sealed for gaming that me and my brother named EarthBound after the first game we played on it.
    Wow, I wasn't expecting this to send me on such a nostalgia trip. I miss the good times with my family, and especially my father who was taken too soon. Me and my younger brother taught him how to play Pokémon cards, going as far as to roleplay as random trainers and gym leaders by building progressively more difficult theme decks. He was a natural, and went up against me in my local comic con finals with me winning by a judge ruling and getting a booster box of rocket that I shared with the other competitors. When he passed he left his binder including 2 base set charizards. Unfortunately either my older brother or stepfather found and sold them off, and before the value really took off, as me and my younger brother wanted to hold onto them for the sentimental value, charizard price be damned

    Ah, this explains what I saw when the right laser disc player was malfunctioning. It kept jumping back to the beginning of the disc and playing these test patterns... at the time I thought the game was doing some kind of weird graphic testing mode!

      It just wouldn't be the same. there is a reason no one really played the PS1 port

    • @LondenTower
      @LondenTower 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ColtGColtGWell, maybe it's because of how the PS1 version even ran in the first place.
      It can't even hold a candle to this here laserdisc footage when it comes to a framerate and resolution standpoint.
      If there's ever going to be a PC re-release of this game or emulation has been made working for it, it'll Smash the PS1 port though the main gate of the canon seed. (the possibilities for a PC re-release would be endless, but an emulation of the original cabinet would be absolutely tolerable as well imo, even if lan multiplayer isn't really possible that way)
      And on another different note, that would also mean that the game could even be played by thousands, if not millions of people. I mean, game preservation much?

    • @Spin_Music
      @Spin_Music 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The drum set is completely different, some songs use a flanger effect on the Slap Bass and some just have missing instruments

    • @Tomsonic41
      @Tomsonic41 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's because the arcade machine used 4-channel sound (two speakers in front and two behind). You're only hearing the front left and right in this video so some things like the radio chatter are also missing! The soundtrack and PSX version would have had the rear sound channels mixed with the front so nothing is missing.

    • @LondenTower
      @LondenTower 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Tomsonic41That would make sense. Perhaps the other channels on the LaserDisc could've been DTS or maybe AC3 encoded and those couldn't be decoded properly at the upload date of this video, cause the domesday duplicator wasn't a thing until about 2018.
      But imo, the footage in this video is the best we'll probably get for now, until someone makes an archival copy of both discs with the domesday. (But the original audio can at least be experienced by watching the gameplay video uploaded by a TH-camr called Reely Interesting)
