    I realize I'm a little late to the party on this, but I thought your presentation was excellent and appreciate that it caters to learners new to this Azure feature. Your passion for technology comes out in the training, which I thought was great as well. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience with the rest of us. I hope any personal troubles you may have been having are long behind you my friend.

    Is there a way to enable instantaneous bi-directional sync, instead of having the Azure files sync back to On-Prem only once a day? This would be used in a scenario where some users are accessing the On-prem mapped network shares, while the other (mobile) users are accessing the same file shares via Azure.

    Very nice and informative demo. Just quick question: I'm starting to migrate on premise file sharing server to the cloud. One option that I was considering before was just the Sharepoint. I know it's better for collaboration but that's basically what the users are doing(Creating documents for invoices, POs, etc) the challenging part would be the permission and the fact that it uses the user workstation to sync. Now let's say if I want to go this route, does the azure file sync would just work the same? My goal is to terminate the on premise file share server and be completely on the cloud. To my understanding the permission issue will be solved this way and it would be easier for users to access than syncing SharePoint. Thanks

    Hey, very nice video. But please, correct me if im understanding this solution the right way.
    Azure File Sync, is a way to make your current local OnPrem server to sync all selected data to the cloud.
    With Cloud tiering, we can even decide how much of the current data that we want to keep locally or push to the cloud? But for what reason? What kinds of solutions does this provide me? What's the difference between this and Azure Backup?

      @@jasonmatthewhillman9973 I tried using Azure AD DS to control the NTFS Permissions but my local system account is not able to write to the mounted file share on a Azure AD joined laptop. Any Ideas??

    Whats the difference between setting up Azure File Sync with FTP Sync (SmartFTP) ?

    • @URTechDotCa
      @URTechDotCa  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Azure File Sync can be used in many ways but the most useful for many companies would be Tiering. Azure File Sync keeps ALL files on in the Azure Cloud and a subset of those files are ALSO kept on your local server. For example if you have 100TB of disk usage on prem today, you could use Azure File Sync to keep just (say) 1TB on prem for near instant response to your local requests. FTP Sync solutions are more of a backup solution than a Tiered solution.

    thanks great walk through. question. basically to start syncing on prem server i would install azure file sync and configure similar to what you did with the VM? is that correct? also, your F:\ drive. was that a VHD that you created?

    • @URTechDotCa
      @URTechDotCa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mona; Yes, my F: drive is a VHD and the syncing will be automatic once it is setup :)

    2021 and global file locking does not work!! It's just about useless! ............Good DEMO but why would anyone bother...

    • @URTechDotCa
      @URTechDotCa  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeff; they still don't have file locking working... wow. It is then only good for archival items (i.e. read only, like a contract repository) or a single office that wants to have a smaller server (less disk) on-prem.

    • @muos
      @muos 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@URTechDotCa I'm in shock that this service is offered by M$. I needed this solution to work for a global file servers setup and foolish thought it fit! sadly, I feel it's nothing more than another way of M$ getting your data into the cloud to make $$. With the costs of disks, today being so cheap your better off on-prem, with an Azure / AWS backup. Again let me thank you for the demo :)
