    My cousins run a DB60 to plant dry beans and soy beans and sugar beets and corn...it’s on a 8370RT ... that no till land is a lot harder than land in Michigan. Love the channel and can’t wait for more videos following the farms you have access to...

    • @farmermatt629
      @farmermatt629 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you know how hard no till land is in other states? Especially since you have probably never no tilled in your life?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching. The soil here in WKY is red clay. It is pretty stout to work through. The green straw just out of the combine requires extra power to work through in double crop beans. This tractor also runs tillage going 18 inches deep in the fall to break compaction after all the passes in this field from cutting wheat and soybeans. The tractor also pulls a 1,500 bu grain cart in soybeans and corn. This is why they go to a 520 hp machine.

    So does he also have an air-seeder or does he custom that job out for his winter wheat as the stubble rows are tighter than 15". They'll want in tight behind the combine also because the longer the sun has on the bare ground after the winter wheat the tougher a pull on the planter it is as the soil stiffens up.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The farm uses a 50ft and 60ft 1890 air drill both pulled by 9620RX tractors. They notill wheat over corn ground.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The soybeans planted after wheat are harvested in October. From November to February the fields sit then in March they are planted to corn. Corn is harvested in August and wheat is planted on corn ground in October. Wheat is harvested in June and soybeans are planted over the wheat stubble.

    Are the tracks on the tractor or planter adjustable for width? It appears to me that the planter tracks are running in the same track spacing as the tractor. Would this not negate the less compaction of the track systems on both the tractor and planter?

    • @kcgibbs
      @kcgibbs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ChiefAUS Yes the tracks can be adjusted with spacers, not an easy job. But the compaction of tracks is very minimal compared to wheeled tractors.

    • @ChiefAUS
      @ChiefAUS 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kcgibbs Thanks.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They want the tracks to line up to keep minimal compaction in one spot. If the planter tracks followed their own path they would press down another spot in the field. The set up in the video is “controlled traffic”. This way compaction is centered in the center of the pass leaving the rest of the field and crop in looser soil.

    Was the combine in the same field...how soon after harvest do you plant...is there an issue with soil compaction without minor tillage

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the combine and planter are often in the same field. I have a JD 8400R video on the way showing the planter right with the combines. There is compaction. In the fall after the beans are cut they will sub soil 18 inches deep.

  • @Parents_of_Twins
    @Parents_of_Twins 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How much does the planter weigh? Pretty close to a million dollars once the tractor and planter are fully speced and ready to go. The big farms must be running close to 10 million in capital. Doesn't seem like you could plant enough of anything legal to come out ahead of the bankers with that kind of money invested in just the machinery. My family was on the wrong side of a farm foreclosure back in the early 80's when a lot of farmers were losing their farms as well. I'm glad that there are people who are willing to do it though.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure on the planter weight. Farming is a tough life and business. This planter is effective and covers allot of acres. Getting two crops off a field in one year goes along way in keeping big machines.

  • @allenmoore4186

    What’s the difference between the db60 and the 1775nt?I think that’s model. Just the tool bar and the narrow track?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The key difference is the frame. The DB60 is built to hold the weight of 47 row units. The 1775NT is a little more advanced on technology and speed.

    • @bigtractorpower

      No IVT on a 9RX at this time. Just the E18 power shift. Case IH offers a CVX transmission Steiger. They are slick.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the John Deere side the 9000T and 9RT were not big sellers in WKY. I only know of two farms that ran them. One went to a 9520RX from a 9520RT and the other went to a 9520RX narrow track from a 9460RT. Over all most green farms are switching from wheeled 9Rs to 9RXs. The Case IH farm’s have all mostly had Quadtracs for 20 years. Very few wheeled Steigers in the area. Challenger MT800s remain popular here on two tracks. The MT800 is the smoothest riding track tractor on the road and field. Over all tracked tractors out perform wheeled machines in tillage.

    That is just incredible that that Tyler does that much planting in one year and the man hours at tractor parts on a one year that’s crazy too however you live in a very lucky region where you can double crop so I’m kind of thinking that farmland must be more valuable than other places in the United States to do to the fact that you can double crop

    Hi guys. Can somebody clarify me please why Americans are using °F instead of °C, miles (per hour) instead of kilometres (per our), bushel or gallon instead of litres? I just don'tget it. I live in Germany and it seems all more understandable in working with these standarts because more states than the USA are using those units of measurements.
    By the way greetings from Germany. You are doing awesome vids. Keep up the great work!

      Thank you for watching BTP. The metric system is taught in school here but the United States has never had an interest in switching to the method system. It would be a huge change has every thing is measured in inches, feet and miles here. There basically an attitude this is “America and that’s the way we do it”. I like watching European farming on TH-cam and often use google to convert the details so I can see how it matches on bushels and acres. Good question. Thank you for posting.
