  • 2020 field work is underway in Western Kentucky. In this video viewers spend time in the field and in the cab with a 346 hp JOHN DEERE R4045 sprayer equipped with 120 ft booms and a 1,200 gallon solution tank. My friend Matt shows viewers what it is like to operate this big machine while spraying wheat in 18 degree temperatures.

    Matt is a good guy, I hope they pay him what he's worth. Good video, spraying is taking over a lot of what tillage and cultivation used to do.

    Brings back memories. Driving a 470 Hagie, foliar feeding corn, wheat, hay, potatoes, etc. I had 4wd hydrostatic drive, 270gal tank, 50 ft boom, & NO cab. As far "technology", I had a pressure gauge, a speedometer and a keen eye along with my GPS or my "Guessing and Prayin' System". Oh, top speed: 6mph. I would be out in those fields a long time doing that! Great video and thanks to Matt.

    I wish you would do a video on Tyler Patriot sprayers. It would be neat to see all the versions during their short run. They were the primary sprayers here in this area of west TN in the 90s. I would like to see all of the versions, the original, the Patriot II, the WT, and the NT. I have a 1994 Tyler Patriot XL in west TN.

      Jimmy Strain the fertilizer doesn’t freeze.

    • @dylanbosch8671
      @dylanbosch8671 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt G so in our area nobody does anything like this and none of our agronomist know anything about top dressing nitrogen on standing crops but I’m growing some small grain this year and was curious as to how you spray on the nitrogen without burning the crop. How many units can you put on in one pass and how soon after application should you go before needing rain to take it in?

    • @josiahdixon1018
      @josiahdixon1018 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We farm the same crops in the same area and liquid nitrogen does not freeze. It will create a salt like substance that clogs up the nozzels sometimes. Then you just go outside and flush the nozzel out.

    • @iamatt568
      @iamatt568 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dylan Bosch the fertilizer will burn the plant if you don’t use a stream style nozzle. That way it gets to the ground rather than coating the plant. Some of our wheat this year got 18.5 gal to the acre we will come back in a month and give it another dose.

    • @dylanbosch8671
      @dylanbosch8671 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iamatt568 so in using a stream style nozzle the drops that do hit the plant roll off without harming the plant at all?

    • @clay1026r
      @clay1026r 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matt is right. 15 is slow for most applications. These rigs can handle 25 mph. As an operator the ground conditions play more of a factor than anything. Sit in these for hours on end and your body feels it. IMO

    • @iamatt568
      @iamatt568 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeti Fetty absolutely. all depends on gal/acre. More gallons means go slower. Less gallons go faster to maintain pressure. After spending hours In the seat though you tend want to go slower...for your back 🥴

    I am sure if Mike B was asked, you could just do this every day. Not sure why you are working at night. And did you ask his office for the right quantity of nitrogen?
    If Bernie was here, he would demand you to stop because it is unfair.
