      I love how that can be read in different ways. Either Walt might regret ever having gone down the path he did (which effectively began when he crossed paths with Jesse again), or he’s feeling some seed of doubt about giving Jesse up to the neo-nazis. I prefer to think the latter, but that’s just me.

    • @headwound
      @headwound 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@BareBandSubscription I know! It's so good and subtle but the moment you realize what he's looking at it _hurts_ or at least that was my experience. Before that scene happened I was expecting Walter to talk about that moment he talks about in "Fly"
      He explains to Jesse that he was "watching some nature program about elephants" and he could hear Skyler and Holly in the other room through the baby monitor. And how he thought that if he had died there, everything would have been perfect.
      In hindsight I don't think he's share smth so personal with Saul. And I think just that moment when he glanced at the watch was better because it was something we had never seen before.
      ...okay I'll stop I'm rambling now lmao

      You’re not rambling. Even if you were, I could be easily guilty of the same. All I can think about is this episode right now and how perfect it really was, and I could probably talk for hours about this show and how much richer it’s made the BB franchise as a whole.

    • @lynnie6633
      @lynnie6633 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      He couldn't have had the watch. In the finale of BB he took it off and put it on top of the phone booth. But in this time as they're waiting for their new identities, he said leaving Gray Matter was his biggest regret. Not his family, not Hank being killed, just money.

    Kim did not get away with it.
    Gene said in his call to Kim that "it's been 6 years", I assume, since either they split up or Howard's murder. Couple that with the time passed since the call and that's *roughly* 7 years, which was the original deal Jimmy got. Kim paid Jimmy's sentence in guilt, shame and moral anguish.
    If Jimmy took the deal, Kim would have served the life sentence, but because he took the life sentence, she got the deal.

    You can hear that potent hurt in Chuck's voice when Jimmy assumes he just wants to tell him off. He's trying to reach out but just dosen't know how because their relationship is so strained... and so he retreats back with the book and the lantern they'd read by as kids... that hurts and cuts deep. The book shows Jimmy isn't the only one thinking about do overs, especially with what he says before about being able to change your path.
    Then Jimmy says "When have you ever changed your path?", not only to wave his statment away but knowing Jimmy looks up to him, it shows he thinks he has to be the same way.
    The way Walter looks at the watch Jesse gave him for his birthday when he's considering his regrets, that one hurts too.
    And the symbolism of the cigarette ash being in color, the faintest spark of life returning to both of their lives in that final moment. Perfection.
    I also really liked how Saul's suit still had the crisis ribbon on it from the airline disaster, as during Breaking Bad he always wore it ever since the Season 2 Finale.

    This was a perfect series finale. I absolutely loved the time machine scenes that were woven throughout the episode. In the end, he was actually able to create his time machine by confessing in court and going back to Jimmy McGill. He brought so much closure to so many different people. I love how the time machine also relates to the series jumping between Jimmy, Saul, and Gene. Just a masterful episode of television and a perfect conclusion to this universe. The flame of the lighter and embers of the cigarette being the only things in color at the end absolutely destroyed me. In case you didn't quite catch it, the reason all the convicts on the bus were so excited to be around Jimmy was because of exactly what Chuck said to him in the previous scene. As a defense attorney, he provided all of those people with the best legal defense he could, and that is something worth being proud of. If Chuck was still around, Jimmy thought he might be at least kind of proud how much his little brother helped out the little guy, and that's enough for him to rest easy.

    To me, this finale was a perfect encapsulation of Jimmy/Saul/Gene’s journey. The personas he built for himself to hide and mask his grief and his guilt, he reverses them all in the space of an hour.
    - He cowardly tries to run and hide again as Gene.
    - Uses his sleazy charm and knowledge of the law to make life easier for himself as Saul
    - Tricks everyone (including Kim) to a somewhat phoney testimony as Slippin’ Jimmy
    - Does the honest thing and throws himself under the bus as Jimmy McGill
    We never hear Jimmy’s one regret but we see it in this finale. Dishonesty. If he had been honest with others and himself, this journey wouldn’t have happened. So, with Kim (his love and last anchor of humanity left) as his witness, he does the honest thing and embraces his punishment and embraces Jimmy and kills Saul.
    And it’s remarkably, if not ironically bittersweet that Jimmy will no doubt thrive in prison because of the echo that he left behind as Saul.

    I LOVE that they played a variation on the track, "Shared Smoke" by Dave Porter, titled, "Shared Sentence", for the last Kim + Jimmy scenes. After all, we heard it during their first time together alone on the screen in the pilot

    I grinned like an idiot when I noticed that Jimmy had the Wayfarer plane crash memorial blue ribbon 🎗 on his suit during the testimony lol
    Folks in the BrBa-verse started wearing it from S03 onwards. But Saul kept wearing it to the fucking end, long after others had stopped. He's still out here trying to build a class action lawsuit lol
    The grind N E V E R stops 😤😤😤💅🏽✨ lol

    Brandon, I can't believe I've been watching your BB-universe related videos (and others) for 2 years & now we are all caught up to the finale. Vince & Co. stuck the landing 2x now! The final 15 minutes between Jimmy & Kim was so emotional & heartwarming. What a finale, an amazing final season & cannot believe it has come to a close. Bittersweet moment.

    Season 6 of Better Call Saul is probably my favorite season of television
    Also,Vince Gilligan is officially working on a new show!Not set in the Breaking Bad universe,but the show is described as "a drama comparable to The Twilight Zone"
    It "focuses on people and explores the human condition in an unexpected and surprising way"

    • @isaiahromero9861
      @isaiahromero9861 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I absolutely love this season and Vince Gilligan and I'm sure his new show will be great, but I gotta say I don't trust him anymore when he says stuff is "surprising" or "unexpected", this season was great but the number one thing Vince and Peter were saying prior to it was that "no one's gonna be able to predict what's gonna happen", even though that's one of the last things I would say about this season lol, most of the community predicted like 90% of this season but it was the way they executed it that made it a masterpiece

    Brandon, thank you so much for allowing us to take this incredible journey with you! it was so satisfying watching the death of Saul Goodman and the return of Jimmy McGill. I never really cared that much for Saul Goodman but I will miss Jimmy terribly, as well as the rest of the amazing characters from Better Call Saul. it was a unique show with flawless acting, writing, directing, and cinematography. there will never be a show like it and I'm so grateful I got to experience it ❤

    I love that the moment Jimmy lost himself to Saul was when he stood at the bar hearing, pretending to be sincere about his brother while just faking the emotion to get what he wants. When he finally breaks free of it and gets to be Jimmy again, it’s in a court where everyone in the room thinks he’s going to fake his emotions again, only for him to finally be honest with himself and let it all out, this time he’s honest about who he is and it brings him peace.

    This was a sublime finale for this outstanding show. One of the things that I found so touching and sad was that, after everything that had happened, all the adventures and twists and turns, the questionable and downright corrupt motivations, the giddy rush of getting away with schemes and the guilt of dirty deeds, and finally the hammer of justice coming down, it was also true and so obvious that Kim was the love of Jimmy's life, and Jimmy was the love of Kim's life. Bittersweet indeed.

    Chuck said to Kim in S2 EP5..."My brother is not a bad person. He has a good heart...it's just...he can't help himself...and everyone else is left picking up the pieces." In the end, Jimmy finally accepts that he's a crook and that he belongs in jail with the rest of the crooks. He could have done the 7.5 years and got out, but then what? He knew he'd end up going back to his crooked ways and hurting more people, and he didn't want anyone else to get hurt because of him...because like Chuck said, he's not a bad person. Once Jimmy truly realized that he just plain can't help himself, his good heart made him do the right thing by locking himself up and throwing away the key. At least in jail he finally has the respect of his peers, and he doesn't have to pretend anymore.

    The genius of the Walt scene is it starts in the dark so it looks like black and white so u think he’s in prison especially when u hear what I think is a bunk bed squeak but then then the light turns on and it’s in color….Vince did the same thing with Waterworks after Jesse and Kim have there talk she runs out into to dark rain and it looks like she’s running back into the present and it looks like she turned black and white…..so creative
