I've heard this nearly every night for three years, watching people lose it. But what I see is a gifted prodigy take one of the most over the top jazz standards ever made and meet it's fire and take this Enormous song to new and even more exciting places. Just look at her, she is consumed by it all. This isn't a cute novelty song, this is pure powerhouse artistic expression. The belting runs are by the number, each note inside each one is placed and not an accident of screaming. This was timeless as soon as she released it. Mind boggling still.

What you will soon realize is that Angelina today at 16 Angelina is already the best Jazz singer on the Planet! Angelina won Norway's Got Talent when she was 8 yrs old after starting the competition at 7 yrs old. The youngest winner of any Got Talent show on the planet. She had to wait two years because you had to be 7 yrs old to enter. She started with a rendition of Billie Holiday's 'Gloomy Sunday' which she just infused with Billie's soul. Angelina was begging her mother to go on "that Simon show" when she was 3 yrs old. encouraged to sing children songs, she would have none of that. Angelina has said singing to her is as important to her as breathing. She will sing anything Acapella at any time and often does. I have to make one more comment since I was listening to your response Angelina started singing when she was 3 years he recorded her first Studio performance when she was 6 years old so now at the age of 16 she has been singing for 13 years she is like a sponge she listens to so much music and internalizes every bit of it people call her the the one of a thousand voices she can sing any genre any music you can think of and probably some that you can't even think of
Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based after listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. She not only "does it" .. She also arranged it from Screaming Jay Hawkins original, which she felll in love with. That was him on the candle at the very start of the video .. Even this young she always wanted to acknowledge and honor the original .. and in this case that was also the composer/ writer. IT is amazing to go back in time and watch Screaming Jay Hawkins do this. it's amazing what she did with this .. her arrangements are always a total marvel .. and this one particularly. There are 2 absolute classic versions of this song., the original Screamin Jay Hawkins version and then there is this Angelina Jordan version which honours the memory and style of the original artist. i have said this before, and I will say it again.. this is the most amazing thing I have ever heard come out of an 9 year old's mouth. Her musicianship at that age was through the roof.. if you noticed in the beginning a gentleman was looking at a piece of paper and smiling. He was smiling because Angelina made changes to the song's arrangement. She has clearly got a gift. To be arranging songs at 9, as a singer, shows that she is already a seasoned musician, not just a singer. I have been listening to Angelina for about a year now, and everything she does, she makes her own. Her arrangement are stunning. I know you normally react to instrumentalists but if you want to react to some more of her content, there are only about 130 some odd more videos to choose from, lol. One of my favorites (jazz standard) songs is the studio version of Billy Holidays " I'm a fool to want you" , which she also sang a Capella at the age of 7 on Norway's got talent. Angelina Jordan arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (150+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice! It seems that Angelina has learned from and absorbed everybody who is anybody that came before her. If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must compare her rendition to that of Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. Well perhaps this is what she does when she does play and we get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Any one who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will alway be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! Yes, Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Angelina is a VERY special singer, artist and human being. I know that you recently discovered DImash, too, but you will very clearly see a lot of differences as to what kind of artists they are. Totally stellar, both of them, but completely uncomparable. So there shuld be room for her on your channel 🙂 I am Norwegian, like her, and have been following her since she won Norway's Got Talent in 2014, when she was 7 to 8. She had turned 8 by the time of the final. Angelina turned 16 on January 10th and currently stands 6' 1 tall (1m 85 cm). She's still young, but no small girl anymore...LOL If you would like to hear what she sounds like as of right now, (and see what she looks like as well), I suggest you react to her rendition of the 1937 jazz standard "My Funny Valentine", which she dropped on Valentine's Day in February this year. Jack, you are so right, she was born with a gift but you were very careful to include the fact that a lot of hard work and practice went into creating this phenomenon. Although you have witnessed many artists who come along who are gifted I believe Angelina is on another level. Her soulfulness compliments her artistry to a degree which makes a listen extraordinary. Although she is a very humble person the poise and confidence she exhibits while she is performing is off the charts. Of course this production is very unique and stands alone but when you listen to more of Angelina you will get the feeling she is singing 'for you' besides to you. She touches people's hearts and although our head doesn't have an explanation for what is going on our hearts figured everything out immediately and opened the door for her to become part of the listener. The barefeet? If you haven't found out why she sings barefoot yet, wait till you find out why! Jack, I have one I'd like you to listen to, Angelina singing 'My Funny Valentine' at 10 years old sitting in a chair at home. What you will see is a sweet little girl transform into an accomplished artist and back again to the beautiful young girl. Btw, she rerecorded a new version of the song at 16 years old and it was wonderful. But, it is a must to see the 10 year old version, as well.

You are now under "Angelina's Spell" and I have to warn you once you fall into Angelina's "Rabbit Hole" there is no way out! Please go back to when she recorded "I Who Have Nothing ", for the first time in a recording Studio at age 6 yrs old. After you pick yourself off the floor, you then realize she is a child prodigy with a connection Jazz singer from back in the Day!

It’s very nice to see you so excited and happy right off the bat and then see your face change as soon as she starts she singing to pure unbelief and incomprehension :-) It took you a little while to get back to enjoying it, but I think that happened somewhere during the sax solo. Though at the end you were still very overwhelmed at the end. As you can imagine that happens quite a lot with this specific performance. Angelina is a very gifted artists and, seeing how she makes terrific strides in her art, must be working very hard to improve herself. You will notice how she has improved as you progress through her performances. On AGT-C season 2 Angie & her grandma Mery made her outfit from silkscreen patterns of her grandma's art work when she was 13 back in Norway. They makes several of her other outfits for shows & concerts too. She also paints great, plays 5 instruments & speaks & sings 4+ languages, English being her 3rd. Angie turned 16 on 1-10-22. I've heard this nearly every night for three years, watching people lose it. But what I see is a gifted prodigy take one of the most over the top jazz standards ever made and meet it's fire and take this Enormous song to new and even more exciting places. Just look at her, she is consumed by it all. This isn't a cute novelty song, this is pure powerhouse artistic expression. The belting runs are by the number, each note inside each one is placed and not an accident of screaming. This was timeless as soon as she released it. Mind boggling still.

Angelina won Norway's Got Talent when she was 8 yrs old after starting the competition at 7 yrs old. The youngest winner of any Got Talent show on the planet. She had to wait two years because you had to be 7 yrs old to enter. She started with a rendition of Billie Holiday's 'Gloomy Sunday' which she just infused with Billie's soul. She followed this by another Billie classic with a pitch perfect rendition of 'I'm a Fool to Want You' acapella. Her next performance was a beautiful rendition of 'Bang, Bang' by Sony & Cher and performed most famously by Nancy Sinatra. She started studying all the greats of Jazz soon after under the guidance of her Iranian Grandmother Mery Zamani a child prodigy in her own right as an artist and poet. English is Angelina's 3rs language behind Norwegian and Farsi along with japanese and some German and perhaps more. She did this from 2 & 3 yrs old by scrolling thru TH-cam of all their most Iconic performance. Angelina doesn't just mimic these greats, she reinterprets them and then simply sings them the way they were meant to be sung. She makes them her own.
Angelina was begging her mother to go on "that Simon show" when she was 3 yrs old. encouraged to sing children songs, she would have none of that. Angelina chooses her own songs and she is absolutely fearless. No song is too big and no artist is too Iconic. All the most Iconic songs by the most Iconic singers in music history. Angelina has said singing to her is as important to her as breathing. She will sing anything Acapella at any time and often does. Her Tic-Toc is full of these impromptu performances wherever she might be whether in the car, walking around the neighborhood or in a parking Garage. Accompanied by most often a simple guitar or piano her performances are always incredible. Add a band or even a full orchestra as in her performance for Quincy Jones at his request singing his arrangement of 'Fly Me to the Moon'. The same arrangement he did for Frank Sinatra. Since winning NGT she has sung for celebrities and heads of state and some of the biggest venues all over the world. Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based after listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. She not only "does it" .. She also arranged it from Screaming Jay Hawkins original, which she felll in love with. That was him on the candle at the very start of the video .. Even this young she always wanted to acknowledge and honor the original .. and in this case that was also the composer/ writer. IT is amazing to go back in time and watch Screaming Jay Hawkins do this. it's amazing what she did with this .. her arrangements are always a total marvel .. and this one particularly. I really recommend it! If only to see what she fell in love with and then how she translated it into her own masterpiece.

i have said this before, and I will say it again.. this is the most amazing thing I have ever heard come out of an 9 year old's mouth. Her musicianship at that age was through the roof.. if you noticed in the beginning a gentleman was looking at a piece of paper and smiling. He was smiling because Angelina made changes to the song's arrangement. She has clearly got a gift. To be arranging songs at 9, as a singer, shows that she is already a seasoned musician, not just a singer. I have been listening to Angelina for about a year now, and everything she does, she makes her own. Her arrangement are stunning. I know you normally react to instrumentalists but if you want to react to some more of her content, there are only about 130 some odd more videos to choose from, lol. One of my favorites (jazz standard) songs is the studio version of Billy Holidays " I'm a fool to want you" , which she also sang a Capella at the age of 7 on Norway's got talent. Angelina Jordan arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (150+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice! It seems that Angelina has learned from and absorbed everybody who is anybody that came before her.
If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must compare her rendition to that of Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. Well perhaps this is what she does when she does play and we get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Any one who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will alway be Iconic. Yes, Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"

All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Hello my friend. I suggested Angelina WAAAAY back when, and was wondering if you'd eventually go there. Now that you did, I'm fairly sure you're going to love it. Angelina is a VERY special singer, artist and human being. I know that you recently discovered DImash, too, but you will very clearly see a lot of differences as to what kind of artists they are. Totally stellar, both of them, but completely uncomparable. So there shuld be room for her on your channel 🙂 I am Norwegian, like her, and have been following her since she won Norway's Got Talent in 2014, when she was 7 to 8. She had turned 8 by the time of the final. Angelina turned 16 on January 10th and currently stands 6' 1 tall (1m 85 cm). She's still young, but no small girl anymore...LOL

I'm beyond happy that you've discovered this gem, maybe at the most perfect time. Angelina was signed by Republic Records in 2020, at the age of 14, and is currently their highest priority new artist. Her first album after being signed is due in near future. Personally, I am (or at least WAS) very hopeful that she would release it before sumer this year, as she will be doing a tour here in Norway from late June until July 10th. I will see her in concert here on July 10th, and I literally can't wait 🙂

Jack, you are so right, she was born with a gift but you were very careful to include the fact that a lot of hard work and practice went into creating this phenomenon. Although you have witnessed many artists who come along who are gifted I believe Angelina is on another level. Her soulfulness compliments her artistry to a degree which makes a listen extraordinary. Although she is a very humble person the poise and confidence she exhibits while she is performing is off the charts.
Of course this production is very unique and stands alone but when you listen to more of Angelina you will get the feeling she is singing 'for you' besides to you. She touches people's hearts and although our head doesn't have an explanation for what is going on our hearts figured everything out immediately and opened the door for her to become part of the listener.
The barefeet? If you haven't found out why she sings barefoot yet, wait till you find out why! Jack, I have one I'd like you to listen to, Angelina singing 'My Funny Valentine' at 10 years old sitting in a chair at home. What you will see is a sweet little girl transform into an accomplished artist and back again to the beautiful young girl. Btw, she rerecorded a new version of the song at 16 years old and it was wonderful. But, it is a must to see the 10 year old version, as well.
Jeff, She was born to sing and your reaction is what I have seen over 100 times by other reactors. You are now under "Angelina's Spell" and I have to warn you once you fall into Angelina's "Rabbit Hole" there is no way out! Please go back to when she recorded "I Who Have Nothing ", for the first time in a recording Studio at age 6 yrs old. It’s very nice to see you so excited and happy right off the bat and then see your face change as soon as she starts she singing to pure unbelief and incomprehension :-) It took you a little while to get back to enjoying it, but I think that happened somewhere during the sax solo. Though at the end you were still very overwhelmed at the end. As you can imagine that happens quite a lot with this specific performance.

She chooses all her own songs & does all her own arrangements ever since she was very young, even when she did Screaming Jay Hawkins “I put a spell on you” at barely 9, even at 7 & 8 on NGT (Norway’s Got Talent). On AGT-C season 2 Angie & her grandma Mery made her outfit from silkscreen patterns of her grandma's art work when she was 13 back in Norway. They makes several of her other outfits for shows & concerts too. She also paints great, plays 5 instruments & speaks & sings 4+ languages, English being her 3rd. Angie turned 16 on 1-10-22. Angie is a very kind, giving, loving, respectful, humble & a big hearted Christian girl. She always sings barefoot when performing & she wrote a book about it at 9 called “Between Two Hearts” & she was/is the youngest to be published in Norway.
