I think they wanted to avoid another Itaewon tragedy in the city so they moved it to a bigger venue. Buses were dispatched to bring people to the site.

There were still street parties everywhere, if you were looking for them. That same area where you had amazing experience back in the years are still there. At SRP, it was more on the street dancing and a little of partying. If you went back to the city center, particularly the fuente area, parties lasted till the wee hours of the morning.

"....my love..." I wish somebody would call me that now. hahaha . Still, glad you are both having a fabulous time in Cebu. I was there in 1980, the year before I left for Europe. It was still rather rural looking but Cebu alrealdy showed promise. Cebuanos are rather laid back but very very talented. They are completely different from their northern counterparts like the Tagalogs. The Cebuano language is more original and not repetitive, unlike the boring Tagalog. I am not an expert in that language though. Cheers from Spain.

I prefer the current arrangement for the sole reason that access to the Basilica Minore de Sto Nino is convenient. Baseline area, famous for the street party and face painting, retained its own liveliness though.
Soon SMseaside arena is built wher dance showdown will be held, performances wl be also be shown around SRP for tourists as it's very spacious windy do great angles on cameras drones plus highlights nice aesthetics of SM,nustar,ilcorso,very clean blue sea &d iconic stoNino or cclex bridge.&more great to come! prititit🎉

Sinulog before was located in the center of cebu where lots of hospitals in the area. It is hard for the patient especially emergency cases to access the road. That's why they changed the venue where it is far away from the hospital to make it more convenient for the ambulance.
I miss the old festive and vibrant Sinulog. The "banderitas", the joyful crowd, the vibe. But true the streets of Cebu are so narrow and it indeed is a growing event so change must be done. However, in my opinion it would have been best if they were able to plan and prepare the venue ahead of time. It was just chaotic and tiring for young ones and old ones as well. Nevertheless, happy that the Sinulog is back and a success despite the majority of the crowd's resistance. Viva Pit Senor! Viva Mike and Gray.

SINULOG - definitely the biggest and grandest festival in the Philippines! I do miss the craziness of the old (pre-pandemic) celebrations. Good times!

First time going. I was going to buy cheap shoes because of the paint, but didn’t witness anyone doing that this year at least in area I was in. I went to the stage area 500 pesos to get in. The seats were badly set up. You couldn’t see the full stage unless you got a green wristband, which no one knew how to get haha I think it’s for the politician family have no idea saw a lot of foreigners and Filipino people complain to the workers guarding that area. They had a lot of room there for people but didn’t let anyone in.
That area for green wristband holders were blocking the view of the people in general red area because it was elevated to be higher. I ended up going to the front standing in the sun getting bad sunburn haha getting a good view, but if you’re old or have young kids you were stuck just watching a screen.
Arena part was kind of waste of money expect for bathroom access. Ended up just watching the performers on the street for most part.
It was good overall experience. Getting there was easy 30 minute ride the hard part was getting back traffic two hours at least. If I were to do it again I would rent somewhere in the area of the festival. Stage part not worth it unless you can figure out how to get green wristband haha 😂

fyi, 9 contingent participants were withdrawn their intention to join this years sinulog due to lack of preparation in the new venue, mostly some cebuanos prefer the old venue than in srp for some reasons like inaccessibilty of the area, safety of the dancers, bad weather condtion as the ground is very muddy, limited structures to hide from rains nor heat from the sun.

There were issues and poblemdabout the original venue, that's why they changed to sm sea side.
Sinulog is not about face painting and fun. Sinulog is about baby Jesus Senor Sto. Nino celebrating its feast....... Those who were disappointed because they were there for the wrong reasons.

SRP was a bad choice, it’s just not convenient for most. There’s nothing much there yet. I hope the politics next year come to better decisions.
