I think South Korea is just in it's cool down phase till it starts refining what it cultivated in terms of recent tech innovation that fast tracked it ahead of many nations in a short amount of time, but if it's any consolation your partially right about the doomed part, but that extends to the rest of the world too, however being doomed isn't a garantee of going extinct or complete collapse... if anything foreign banks will own it similar to Ireland, however the orient could be subject to a different fate than Europe.
SK is looking like what happened to Japan after the 90s. They need to find ways to increase immigration to offset low birth rate and make sure their AI will be at the forefront, or else things could get worse from now.
Naive comments below say "push leftward!" Or "push rightward!". These are meaningless labels. The reality is, South Korea is a USA vessel state, just as much as North Korea is a Chinese Vessel state. Nobody remembers Koreans as a unique identity, they think of either starving peasant communists are Parasocial idol worshipping Capitalists. Europe, South East Asia, and Latin America has an identity. North and South Korea doesn't, both nations lack Religion and think "money" or "the party" is all that matters. Capitalism and Communism are inherently Materialist Atheist ideologies that cannot function without a cultural guidance. That guidance is Religion, which both Korea lack and a plunging the abyss. Though you may not be religious yourself, it's an observation these things give nations an identity and more unique morals that is different from their colonizers. A set goal. Religous societies have far less suicide rates then Atheistic ones. Zealots are crazy, and insane... but you can never label them as depressed. They win revolutions. The Koreas only have Chinese and American morals... the Pro Materialism morals. How do we fix this issue? Berid of all foriegn influence. China and USA alike. Make Korea, Korea again. Korea is not USA, nor is it China. Korea is Korea. China and the USA Is Imploding with infighting as their ideals don't make sense to their own people. Theocracy is in the rise for both. We are witnessing a dangerous global phenomenon.

I was here in 1997, when the Won got to 2000 to the dollar. Oh my. The Won will get down below 1400, particularly if Yoon is convicted (as of course he should be). Yes, bleak now, but Korea is different from the Korea I knew in the 1990s. Find a way to make money off of this folly on TH-cam, perhaps by teaming up with me and others in central Seoul.
It's not common to hear one sing the praises of Syngman Rhee. Some people seem to have issues with those who murder hundreds of thousands of people, but not you it seems! You seem quite young, are you aware of the Bodo League massacre, among others?
All historical figures have both merits and faults. They are multidimensional. When studying history, I believe we must objectively examine all facts as they are. Idolizing a figure by focusing solely on their strengths or demonizing them by highlighting only their faults is dangerous. I am well aware of Syngman Rhee’s mistakes, as they are taught in schools-his involvement in corrupt elections during his later years and many other faults, including the Bodo League Massacre. These are deeply regrettable. However, he also achieved significant accomplishments, which are almost completely neglected in Korean education. This one-sided undervaluation is deeply problematic. If we fail to learn history properly, we risk repeating the same mistakes. Without his insights, Korea would have been communized much earlier. All Koreans on the peninsula would now be suffering like the people in North Korea. Recognizing the wave of communism at the time, he made the decisive choice to establish a separate government in the South to preserve liberal democracy. Moreover, he laid the foundation for peace by signing the ROK-US Mutual Defense Treaty with the United States. While he made many mistakes, it is undeniable that Syngman Rhee laid the groundwork for what South Korea is today. This video does not seek to defend his mistakes. Rather, it references him to highlight the lack of visionary insight in today’s Korean leaders-an ability he undeniably possessed.
@@KimChiComedy_Kim But isn't it also a fact that being a friend of the US is more dangerous as being their enemy, as Kissinger said.... Like other countries, including mine, SK is some kind of geostrategical-military and economical outpost of the US. Sadly the geographical position there for SK is not the best. Not wanna praising NK but it's relative commonly known that one big reason of the NK situation is that they giving them harsh sanctions and also working against them in the not so official ways.
Was hoping for what you think are possible solutions. But you mostly pinned the issues on a lack of visionaries, which isn't something anyone can do anything about. You can't flip a switch or a start a program for legendary visionaries. You did mention the national healthcare system and social security system as bad things. I'm not sure if you mean that Korea should privatize healthcare for those who can afford it, but that seems likely to depress the population crisis even more. Ultimately, it was an okay video but it's missing what you think are possible routes the country can take. If the problem is legendary visionaries, I guess the country can try enticing Thiel to migrate with a ton of perks. Offer to make him a Chaebol or something.
In the early 20th century, Korea could have become Russia's Japan. This scenario was thwarted by the intervention of Britain, the United States, and Japan in 1904. Then, in 1917, Russia lost its national power. It is quite possible that if God arranges for Russia to return, Korea will have some option related to it.
Very interesting! In addition to stagnation in terms of development, I've also heard about political problems and the divide in the political ideologies of men and women, which surely can't help the already unfortunate situation. It seems that South Korea also would need to change its society into a less patriarchal one.
communism/socialism is NOT the answer, capitalism is still the best system that exists. Dont give up hope, even after all the corruption in the system, we were able to get Trump back into the office, and have a brighter future. Be active in the community and go vote for a better future

Who is Korea's bff? Russia/China/North Korea? Or the US? Each have vastly different visions of the future, and of property rights, and human rights...Sitting on the fence is not an option. A choice has to be made.
It's obvious it's the USA and has been for a very long time now. It's the US that made sure N. Korea could not cross the line. It's the US that buys a massive amount of Korean products. That could change going forward of course but as it stands right now it certainly isn't Russia or China.

Probably 2 decades ago I decided to travel to Japan via Seoul, going overland to Pusan before getting a ferry to Fukuoka. I was interviewed by the National Korean broadcaster at the airport. I was scathingly critical of how bad South Korea was - except one area. I was blown away by a comic mime on TV depicting a tragic romantic episode. It was so talented. I couldn't shut up about it. So, I look today upon media content like 'Squid Games' and 'Mr Sunshine' with respect. Maybe my criticism and praise tapped a nerve. Maybe I'm the next Peter Thiel. 😅
I’m guessing the harsh criticisms were completely edited out, and only the praise made it to the broadcast😂 You recognized the potential of Korean content 20 years ago. Very insightful. What’s next?🧐
His ideas are generally right but his historical undestandings are poor at best. Japan has always been richer and stronger than Korea for past 1500 years at least . Korea has never been a powerfiul nation in its history and has naver played any significant role in the history of mankind. It had reached its natural peak few years ago and it is rapidly going back to where it truely belongs: the backstage of history.
I really enjoyed your opinions and feelings about the future of South Korea. I would like to say neo liberalism and late stage capitalism have brought South Korea to a breaking point. When a country is essentially run by 3 or 4 companies. A work culture that makes it damn near impossible to raise a family or live a good life. Women being treated poorly, And policies and rights stripped away that only feed the bottom line of big business and those with a stake in it. It was bound to come to this. The only proposal i have is to push leftward.
I wanted to add I've been to South Korea and I love a few things about it. Seoul is a great city with so much to do. The food is amazing. I've never had such a unique and interestingly balanced cuisine. Tech. Comparing Japan and South Korea, I don't know why people think Japan is in the future. South Korea literally has technology that works and works well. I'd love to see more of Korea and I've been following the devopments of what's going on politically right now.

Hyper focus on capitalism/oligarchy is unfortunately the result. I don’t think sk is not a vassal state right now either. The only path long term is unification, reduction of military spending, focus on social spending and mindful immigration policies. Tech industry is in crisis everywhere btw.

I really hope the Korean people can find a good solution. Maybe some stagnation is inevitable, but I believe it will not be like my country's lost decades.
Ok so what's your plan, become yi sun sin?
that is only half truth as North Korea is not a vassal state.
as a korean american, i know from my parents that, south koreans still praise figures like peter thiel or any american tech oligarch. their knowledge of US is backwards by 10 years here in america. they don't know americans have long shed their admiration of these figures and realized they are all criminals
China is not imploding, USA in the other hand......
There is a Chinese saying, when the lips are no longer there, the teeth will suffer from the frost. North Korea is China's lips, not vassal state.
Very knowledgeable and articulate video essay! 👏 The nation of Korea might not be what it is now when looking into the futre but overseas Koreans will continue to be successful in the US, Vietnam, etc. No doubt about it. Best of luck to you and your loved ones. Happy new year!
Greetings from Malaysia
Thank you for watching this video🙂
The submissiveness to USA is the worst mistake. The whole world coud be your ally, stop thinking in terms of friend or foe
Are you reading from ur pc..
@@KimChiComedy_Kim Exactly. As the Chinese said, One general's victory is from the dried bones of ten thousand. A success of a nation is no different.
@@KimChiComedy_Kim
But isn't it also a fact that being a friend of the US is more dangerous as being their enemy, as Kissinger said....
@@KimChiComedy_Kim You should write a book highlighting the strengths of Hitler and Stalin! You need to grow up!
@@KimChiComedy_Kim The same concept with President Lee in the '70s. He was a dictator but he was industrializing South Korea.
Doom, unless it is curbed, is all over, darling ..
❤❤❤ Shin Kimchi (brillient guy). Praise Chinese instead of West
You are south Korean? well, at least you are smart. No worries, you are East Asian, through histrory, we are survivors.
All of which a result of the democratic systems they have been running under. It's the end of the road for this system. Socrates predicted it.
communism/socialism is NOT the answer, capitalism is still the best system that exists. Dont give up hope, even after all the corruption in the system, we were able to get Trump back into the office, and have a brighter future. Be active in the community and go vote for a better future
now thats funny a criminal like trump should not be allowed to even run for the next term, america its the worse example of how a democracy should be.
While I prefer democracy/capitalism over communism, many Western countries based on this model are crumbling. High income tax, exhausted welfare, pension, broken medical system, high inflation etc. China has it's problems but it's a relatively cheap place to live.
If we see all developed country its having issues, its not about comunism or capitalism, china its having problem on its own, the US, Europe, Japan and Korea. Its more about politicians failing taking all the wrong decisions and now its looking to bail out on the people and every single of i mentioned suffer from the same problems, people cant get a house, health care, and more young people cant sustain and choose not to do anything because of how hopeless the situation is
Who is Korea's bff? Russia/China/North Korea? Or the US? Each have vastly different visions of the future, and of property rights, and human rights...Sitting on the fence is not an option. A choice has to be made.
It's obvious it's the USA and has been for a very long time now. It's the US that made sure N. Korea could not cross the line. It's the US that buys a massive amount of Korean products. That could change going forward of course but as it stands right now it certainly isn't Russia or China.
@@Ziegfried82 its partly by force. they continually oust opposition to ucle-sam and are continually finding ways to manipulate sk media. their strat is to incite negat-chyna opinions which overshadow anty-uncl-sam opinions. it is silly though for koreans to dislyke chynese as there is very little negative history between them. in fact many koreans live in chyna, consider yanbian prefecture, large korean population that exist ther
Don't be silly. Picking side is a bad choice. You can have a close friend but never help your close friend to piss the other giants, especially when your friend's enemy is your neighbor. Otherwise you will become the next Ukraine or Cuba.
Us planned pearl harbour !
Korea needs a business man ,not a politician to clean up their mess. Does this sound familiar?
They're being shafted by businesses that can't kept under control by the government.
The click bait title worked. Your views are going to be at least 10X your previous best.
You picked your fate a long time ago.
Hold on buddy... better times will come.
Greetings from America.
How good it is in Saymang Rhee (west puppet)
Korea is in Asia so
His ideas are generally right but his historical undestandings are poor at best.
In what sense do you think women of the ROK are treated poorly?
An interesting and thought-provoking analysis.
Very beautiful speech
Where is President Rhee Seung Man? 😂
park chung hee was the one that pressured chaebols like samsung to do risk taking strategies. He was the most important element.

If Japan and Korea got into a war, who does the US help? 😂
They just watch and sell weapons.
Like in history I guess 😆

Hyper focus on capitalism/oligarchy is unfortunately the result. I don’t think sk is not a vassal state right now either. The only path long term is unification, reduction of military spending, focus on social spending and mindful immigration policies. Tech industry is in crisis everywhere btw.
can you do a reaction to "South korea is broken" by gattsu? Really curious about your opinion on it.
Good boy.
No it is not.
What's your counter argument?
south korea can still leverage its stregths. This analysis is very based on the great man theory and other idealist beliefs, which is in my opinion fundamentally flawed.
@@emiliopenayo4738It's very hard to overcome Korea's fertility rate issue and political polarization issue even with the AI revolution. Japan is basically ruled by one party since WWII so there's less political tension and their fertility rate is close to double Korea's. They might be a little better off with the AI revolution. Mass immigration to help with the fertility issue will bring even more polarization.
